This place, right in the middle of nowhere is one of the best! In Oregon. they take pride about the food they serve, very very fresh be honest this is the only place I am confident eating raw seafood. .even 5 stars restaurant in Portland is incomparable. Check their special broiled salmon, it melts in the mouth, organic salad oh LALA. The owners John and Minnie are both awesome and friendly. .we love them. check this place, highly recommended.

I have never been a fan of sushi, but Tokyo Bistro changed my mind about sushi. I love ordering their rolls and can eat at this restaurant everyday if I could. I appreciate that they offer a military discount and their service is always friendly. Whenever my wife and I go, they’re always busy — clearly an indication of how great their food is. Favorite rolls are: Coos Bay Roll, Crunchy Salmon, Coconut Shrimp, Spicy Johnny My wife enjoys their ramen or katsu. We love the cucumber they give before our meal. Definitely worth a try, we will continue to keep coming back as long as we are in the area.

Yum! Wow. There isn’t much more to say than that. Friendly service, though it was a little awkward being a party of one; the servers forgot about me at first. But I sat at the bar and chatted with the very friendly, sweet chef. Delicious, super fresh food. These people know what they’re doing. I’ll definitely be back.

Probably one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to and I have been to many all over the world. Housemade wasabi and sake were delicious. Service was excellent. Some of the best rolls and sashimi I have had the pleasure to eat. Don’t miss this place

When my husband craves his sushi rolls we come here, everything is always fresh and he is addicted to their rolls. The times we have returned(which is many) the service has been greatly improved & we’re always taken care of. Drinks refilled and meals that come out timely. They really are a gem in this town. We will continue to return.

Tokyo Bistro is the best restaurant in the weirdest location you’ll find around the North Bend/Coos Bay area. But once you find it, you’ll be treated to some of the best sushi anywhere. Fresh abalone, uni, and much more prepared by the chef without even using the menu. We were just six hungry guys who ordered a few apps and beer and let the chef do the rest. If you’re playing golf at Bandon Dunes like we were, and want to get off property for something different one night, Tokyo Bistro is your place. I’m sure anyone who lives in the North Bend/Coos Bay area knows about it.

This was recommended to us by a fellow customer at Starbucks. So obviously we knew his taste must be good. We came in for lunch at 11am and didn’t have a wait at all. The sushi was good, had a bit too much sauce for my liking. It came out really fast so that was nice. The wait staff was also very nice. The restaurant was clean and open. It was a great place for lunch and the prices were good!

I’m so glad that this restaurant continues to do so well. It’s been great to see John and Minnie’s success as a «regular» at this restaurant. I’m never disappointed. You can’t go wrong with the Dragon Roll, Hello Katie, or Rainbow Roll.

Yuuuuummmmmy! We live in Portland and LOVE sushi. We were visiting family in Coos Bay area and had a craving for sushi. We were a little leary about a good sushi place in Coos Bay but this place far exceeded our expectations! We sat at the bar and got to chat with the owner and watch the sushi artist make beautiful roll after roll! We are so excited to go back next time we are in town! We HIGHLY recommend it!

Ate at tokyo bistro for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. Went with some friends so a lot of food was ordered. They have the best deep fried calamari I have ever eaten. It wasn’t the least bit chewy. Was super thick pieces and fried perfectly. For the main course, I got the crunchy salmon roll and the golden California roll. They were both awesome. I’ve had comparable versions at other restaurants, but tokyo bistro takes the cake. Our server was very attentive and took very good care of us. Drinks were topped off before we could ask, if we did need anything, she was right back with it and we didn’t have to ask twice. Needless to say, I will be going back many more times in the future.

This place did not disappoint! The ambiance was great! The sushi rolls were even better! The fish was beautiful, very fresh, and tasted fantastic. The tuna melted in my mouth and the salmon was delightful. I could eat here everyday. We sat at the sushi bar and they are masterful in their sushi preparation. The staff was super friendly. I will definitely go here again!

This place is one of the best in Coos Bay. John obviously cares very much for his customers and the food that is served… The list of unique rolls is impressive. Always an upbeat & friendly vibe, prices r fantastic, just not a fan of his version of veggie tempura, he and I agree to disagree… He makes it like veggie french fries, I like pieces of veggies, but hey other then that the place Rocks! A few times I’ve taken the food to go and found the order was wrong, every time they are very apologetic and compensate me next time I go in no questions asked, they r always extremely personable and friendly a nice vibe!

As someone who is gluten-free, I almost squealed in delight when I asked if they had GF soy sauce and they said that yes, they did but also had GF homemade teriyaki sauce and GF tempura batter!!! WHAT? I have yet to find GF teriyaki in Seattle! The food here is incredibly good — the sushi was fresh and delicious(generous portions) and I enjoyed the Jason Roll with hamachi and salmon lightly fried in tempura. YUM. The bento box that a friend ordered was beautiful and she raved about it as well. Large selection of fine wines, fabulous seaweed salad. Great ambience as well. Another amazing find in Coos Bay, I truly hope to return!

Before you read further, please note that I’m from the LA area. I am also a food blogger. Based on the Unilocal reviews, I chose this restaurant. My daughter and I ate there and I brought back to-go food for my wife. I ordered a sushi selection: Anago(eel), Uni(sea urchin), Kani(crab), Hokkigai(clam) and Hamachi(yellowtail). The quality was not quite the same as LA, but neither was the price. I thought that this was good quality for the value. My daughter ordered chicken katsu. This katsu was extremely dry and slightly overcooked. I also think they reused the frying oil one too many times because the batter was very dark brown and wasn’t as tasty as panko(Japanese bread crumbs) can be. I was extremely disappointed with the«house made» ramen. I wasn’t expecting the same quality as Tsujita or Ramen Yamadaya, but this was Instant Ramen. The broth wasn’t anything like real ramen. They also included bamboo shoots, peas, carrrots and lima beans. It was almost like they dumped part of a bag of frozen veggies into the ramen broth. C’mon.

Wow! What a gem. This place is fantastic. On the smaller side but everybody is very friendly. The owner, John, is always smiling and says hello to everybody, many of them by name. There seem to be a lot of regulars. If’s not too busy and you’re sitting at the bar and you engage him in conversation he can teach you a lot about sushi. Supposedly only Florida snapper can be sold as sushi, so not fresh, but they get fresh local snapper that is used in several dishes. Ask them, they will tell you if they have any fresh fish that day. The local fisherman sometime bring in random catches of fresh fish. The salmon was fresh this past weekend and so I went twice. It was so good. Soft, and smooth, but with just a bit of texture. Melts in your mouth. You also get large portions of fish with small(but just the right amount of rice). The rice itself is also seasoned just the right amount. I could probably eat it plain. I can tell they take pride in their fish, wanting to only present the best. I sat at the bar 2 nights in a row. Watched them trade their craft. I saw them cut off pieces from the sides that they deemed substandard and throw them away before starting to cut the slices of sushi. It’s really fresh. The menu also denotes the items that are«fresh» or «local» or «favorites.» I tried the hamachi the first day, good but unfortunately has to be compared to the fresh salmon. The salmon was so good… have I said that yet. The spicy tuna roll was also really good. Not all spice, not all mayo. It was well balanced. The salmon was so good I went back the next day and had more sake and the sake trio. One comes regular, one comes spicy, and another come out smoked. I was a bit hesitant because I really love the clean smooth fresh sake but I was not disappointed. 3 fresh clean cuts, one gets smoked at the table, one gets a small dollop of spicy topping and the other comes out plain with a few thin green onions. MMMmm delicious! Have I mentioned that they fresh wasabi!!! That itself should tell you it’s a head above most other sushi restaurants. Most sushi restaurants you get green colored horseradish. They have smooth spicy fresh wasabi. John even grows it in his own garden. he showed me some from the refrigerator. Just like the pictures I’ve seen on the internet. Just the fact that he took years to learn how to grow wasabi properly shows his dedication to his craft. i was going to go back again tomorrow and try some of their other cooked dishes(if there is no more fresh salmon) but unfortunately they are closed on Mondays. I guess I will have to wait until next month. PS. The poke bowl was also pretty good. If you happen to be in the area and appreciate good sushi, make sure you stop by. You will not be disappointed.

Atmosphere was super friendly and the service was very fast!(Did not expect that at all) everything we got was really good and the ramen was ok. Got a seat at the bar and had a front row seat at how our sushi was being made. I recommend the baked mussels, dragon roll, and sunset roll. The Japanese mafia roll looked good too.

I’m a sushi lover so when my husband asked where I wanted to eat dinner it was an easy choice. Based on previous reviews I chose Tokyo Bistro. Our service was fairly good but our server was a bit short with us, we asked twice for refills of water and beer before recieving them. The place has an open airy seemingly Mediterranean style ambiance and makes for a nice setting to have dinner. Albeit nothing reminiscent of a Tokyo Bistro. Which must be an oxy moron the aproach is clearly Fusion of sorts. The Food came out within a reasonable amount of time around 30 minutes for the bulk of our dinner which consisted of Nigiri and Sashimi and 1 Maki roll. The Food: The Rice was a bit over seasoned for my taste, however most of the fish did appear fresh. Our server did not know if the Salmon was farmed or wild and knew very little about fish in general. We could tell the Salmon was indeed farmed and most likely Atlantic Salmon, which we try and avoid for many health and environmental concerns. I would have given 3 ½ Stars if available. But I felt 4 stars would be more fair than 3.
