I used to work two doors down from this place and really missed the previous restaurant that was there. At first glance the interior looks fairly interesting and there aren’t too many Italian spots that are close by. With that said, the only non issue we had was there was plenty of room to seat about 10 of us on lunch break. Everything else was downhill from that point on. Out of 10 dishes maybe 1 – 2 were ok. Yes, there was a lot of sharing to try and taste a variety of the menu. Many of the pasta meals had undercooked pasta which we had to deal with as one coworker complained and only received the feedback«that is how pasta is cooked in Italy». The dish was actually sent back to the kitchen and upon receiving the dish again still had some of the pasta with bites from the first plate. In the end, everyone had to pay for the expensive unpleasant experience without any manager help or presence. Even though this lunch was shortly after their grand opening, I was set to not return. Sadly I love local restaurants but would rather go to an Italian chain restaurant over this.

I don’t know why no one has reported this place being closed for the past month or so. I have been driving by this place practically everyday and it is never open.

I watched this place take shape over several months by my old apartment. Taking over the old Route 9 space, I was anxious to see what it would become and finally had the chance to have lunch there last week. The very friendly service is something that hits you upon first walking in and lingers throughout. It’s clear there’s a lot of heart in this operation that leaves you hoping it succeeds in a somewhat difficult part of the neighborhood(there’s not much foot traffic this far up Ponce). We were first served bread with olive oil and vinegar, which was welcomed while we decided what to get. They give you a mini iPad that lets you browse through photos of the different dishes and help you make your decision — just the kind of thing Unilocalers love! My lunch date and I split the insalata di spinaci e caprino to start — baby spinach with Tuscan olive oil, pistachio and warm goat cheese cream. It was the perfect size to share among two as a starter and I absolutely loved the warm goat cheese cream. It was unlike any salad I’ve had before. For mains, I couldn’t resist the gnocchi di patate alla sorentina. I’m a gnocchi lover and this was delicious. There was plenty of mozzarella baked in there which made it both creamy and soft from the potato dumplings. The serving size was perfect. Very filling but I couldn’t stop eating it! I also really love the décor of this place. They have beautiful pictures of Italy lining the walls and even the ceiling. In the back, they have a market setup selling wine, pasta and additional imported Italian products. I would definitely return next time I am craving a taste of Italy. It’s been awhile since I’ve witnessed employees so devoted to making sure you enjoy your meal and have a good experience!

Thanks to my mother in law, I was introduced to this wonderful authentic Italian restaurant. I’ve been here several times for dinner even for Easter brunch! The pastas are delicious, they even have their own wine, of which is really good! Their olive oil is one of a kind, must try!

Went to Cavatappi on a Sunday looking forward for great food, huge surprise. Very bad service, the lady was upset every time i asked a question. The bread was cold and hard; appetizers where really bad, please don’t dare to order the octopus salad and the eggplant parmigiana not good at all. Finally I give it two stars because the entrees weren’t that bad. However, my dish was extremely oily!

Cavatappi is where you go to enjoy«what Italy eats today»! The food is great and they have an excellent selection of wine. Great for families and couples alike. Service is prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. The ambience is very warm and inviting which I immediately felt very comfortable. I’ve also had the chance to taste the piadina which will be on the lunch menu soon and it blew my mind! It was served fast which is great when in between meetings in the Gables. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend it.

Want true Roman cuisine? Then you have to try chef’s Luigi’s Amatriciana and Carbonara, both with real guanciale, cooked to perfection. The octopus salad is to die for and the Torta di la Nonna Is nothing but delicious. The atmosphere is quaint and the service(mostly Italian) amable. Feel like you are in Trastevere, while in Coral Gables, have some wine and pasta and enjoy a great time with your friends and family,

Cavatappi is an ambitious first effort by an eager young restauranteur who serves both as host, manager and waiter. His chef prepares wonderfully flavorful and attractive plates that especially feature house-made pastas, gnocchi and other treats. The menu is pretty simple, but is very well executed. The modern décor complements the plates, and is of similar caliber. As a first effort, there are some rough edges with respect to service. But, on the whole, Cavatappi is a very promising addition to Coral Gables. I hope the neighborhood provides the support it deserves.

We were driving around and found this restaurant through Unilocal. The first impression was a great place with a nice hostess who welcome us in a very friendly way, but when the waiter came he start giving us a really rude attitude. The food was good but the service was HORRIBLE!!! I’m not coming back!

Great addition to the neighborhood, off the beaten path. Authentic Italian. The owner David is delightful and always present. These are the types of establishments that need«foodies» to come out and support. Pasta dishes all outstanding, frito misto, and a decent wine list. Will be back again and again!

This place is great. Just opened around the corner from me and I’m glad they did. Davide is a pretty awesome owner who takes personal care of your experience. Check it out now before it becomes tough to get a reservation. The food is outstanding and the prices are fair.

Run – don’t walk to the brand new Cavatappi(«corkscrew» in Italian) restaurant. My husband and I happened upon it after they had only been open two days. The food and service were a total delight. Highly recommend the eggplant appetizer, the spinach salad, lobster ravioli and the chocolate mousse with berries – which was the best we’ve ever had. Be sure to speak to the owner – he has great stories of realizing his dream!
