Since starting another position at work that’s now located in Queens, I have access to another realm of tasty food. Exploring the area along Roosevelt Avenue I passed by Capy a few times but finally made the trek inside to sample what they are known for which is their Tres Leches Cake. Service was really cordial if not a tad odd, as the clerks behind the counter probably weren’t expecting an Asian foodie as a patron as the neighborhood is primarily Hispanic. One of the female clerks(who was a bit more fluent in English) was so nice in proudly showing me the various cakes they had and also a separate display by the cashier containing various drinks, flans, puddings, and other single-serving desserts. Nonetheless I had my eyes set on a slice of the Mango Tres Leches and Cappuccino Tres Leches Cake. Let’s start with the Mango Tres Leches… From my first bite a sweet tropical mango flavor hit my taste buds and when you get a piece of the rich milky sponge cake added in, you know why Capy specializes in Tres Leches as it was so decadent. I had major brain synapses telling me this was just like a milky pound cake which is clearly not a bad thing. The Cappuccino Tres Leches was even better. A really bold robust Cappuccino flavor was apparent right away and it was a great contrast to the delicate soft spongy milk saturated cake. With the assertive Cappuccino flavor the sweetness factor was leveled off perfectly as well. If you’re in the area and get the urge for something sweet and decadent, there’s no excuse not to try out Capy. Now after saying that there’s no excuse for me not to try their normal Tres Leches cake!

My bf and I randomly found this cake store along Roosevelt Avenue under the 7 Train today. I am familiar with this cake store already because there is another Capy on 88th Street on Roosevelt. This store on 102 Street is a much smaller location than the 88th Street store. This location like the Capy store on 88th Street has all kinds of tres leches cake. I love tres leches cakes. This cake store/bakery looked really clean from outside which is impressive being that it’s located right underneath the 7 train. If you are not familiar with what a tres leches cake is, tres leches cake is in Spanish, three milks cake which is a cake that is soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. It’s my favorite kind of cake because it’s moist all the time since it’s soaked in milk. The cake doesn’t fall apart… it is wet but without being too soggy. I don’t know how that can be, but it works. Only problem is, I am lactose intolerant… but for this slice of cake, I am willing to take a palm of about 20 lactase enzyme supplements. Capy has a variety of flavored tres leches cakes that are customizable. Capy is a chain of cake stores that originated in Mexico. Capy mostly sells 9-inch diameter cakes that range from $ 38-$ 45. A 9-inch cake will feed about 12 – 15 people. The best part for me is Capy also sells slices of their cakes. I have tried the almond, mango and peach cake… I loved the mango the most. My boyfriend was making«…Mmmmm…» sounds alternating with exclamations of «…Oh My Gawd!..» at me when we were sharing the mango slice of cake. For $ 3.75, it is sure yummy!
