I love this beautiful store. The products are unique and well made. The staff is friendly and knowledgable.

I’ve shopped at the Sundance locaton at the Village several times, and am really startled by the lack of service. The last two visits were memorable for their almost defiant lack of customer service. I purchased something anyway, and when I approached the cash register — and a group of 3 sales associates enjoying a nice chit chat — I mentioned that some help in the fitting room would have been appreciated… total silence in reply. I appreciate how hard it is for brick and mortar stores to compete with online/sales/discounters and I try to shop local, but this was a pain, not a pleasure. I won’t be back

I went into the Corte Madera store this past weekend. In the store with staff and on-line with Sundance live chatters, my experience could best be described as «chilly». It did not match the warm and relaxed«vibe» that Sundance tries to convey with its catalogue.

I’ve visited this store 4 times in 2012 – 13. Each time I’ve been impressed with how attentive the staff has been. They’re not intrusive or annoying, but helpful and caring. One time, my boyfriend was looking for clothes and I just wanted to change into my dinner outfit after a day at Bolinas, and they didn’t bug me or pressure me to shop– they just supportively helped me get dressed in my own clothes– meaning I needed a pin to hold my wrap together and they provided one to help me out– they aren’t just looking to make a sale. Other times when I was looking for something from the catalog and I wanted a certain tint of leather boot they offered to order it S and H free. The stock reflects the catalog to a large degree and the manager and salespeople are sincere and helpful. Yay!

Yesterday on July 7th my family and i arrived at the store around 11ish. We had already received poor customer service at J Crew and it continued here at Sundance. Sales associates didn’t look our way or greet us as we entered and were in the store(we’re asian) but when other white shoppers came in, they were greeting them and asking them if they needed anything. If Sundance doesn’t want to lose non-White shoppers, they need to teach their staff some customer service training. At this point, I would tell people to stay away until they hire new staff.

I am madly in love with everything they have. But not the price. Sad :-(

I wandered in there one day after my trip to the Apple store, which is right across the way. It has a nice atmosphere, and some very nice merchandise. Right off the bat I noticed a salad tossing/serving set that I coveted. Then I noticed some tasteful jewelry in the case, and a lovely laptop type bag. But the thing that«got me» was this black boiled wool coat, with a V shaped off the shoulder coller, and a one-button fitted waist. The bottom flares to the knee and the very best part is the hot pink satin lining. I have gotten compliments on it wherever I go, and it was on sale for a great price. It is expensive there, but if you can catch what you want on sale, you’re going to be happy.

A co-worker loves their stuff and they’ve been sending me catalogs for years now. Their stuff are nice to look at and some of the jewelry are really nice and simplistic. Jewelry artists like Anne Sportum from Vancouver(love her stuff), Jes MaHarry in LA(sells to the stars), Jeanine Payer(has a very, very tiny shop on Market Street in Downtown SF), etc. The store was started by Robert Redford with poster pictures of him in the back where hubby was sprawled on the comfy sofa taking a nap. Dressing rooms are stalls with curtains. I was very excited to hear when they opened this store(1st in Calif, original is in Sundance, Utah) 2 yrs ago, but this is my first visit. The store has a very homey, country, outdoorsy design with a barn-like plank hardwood floor and sells jewelry(of course), home linen, comfy clothing and shoes as well as men attire.

I was very excited to learn of the store’s opening. I was very disapointed to when I ventured in and found most clothing labels read«made in China». Sundance is supposed to support artisans, right? And what of artisan’s rights. Products include a set of mugs with the word«Peace» printed on them) as in John Lennon’s «give Peace a Chance», and Joan Baez anti-war efforts for peace… these mugs are made in China. China, a country who censors its citizens, and occupies Tibet, repressing her people… perhaps some of them are artisans. In essence, I would say Walmart and Sundance are not that different.

The Sundance Catalog has been landing on my front door step for longer than I can remember. I probably bought something from someone else and after mailing lists were exchanged, this and many other catalogs regularly end up in my recycling bin. By the way, this web site has helped me get more control over my catalog choices:
I’m keeping the Sundance Catalog, although I usually wait for one of their sales. They offer some very nice merchandise, but sometimes at prices that need to be considered further. A few weeks ago, I bought this really cool old Swiss backpack(at 25% off) on line and wondered why I was being charged sales tax. The answer of course, was that Sundance opened its first store at the Village in Corte Madera. This is not to be confused with Town Center across the Freeway. So after lunch in SF(Green Chile Kitchen), I decided to take the long way back to the East Bay(through Marin), and take a look. This handsome Sundance store is very nicely appointed and contains most of the items you will find in their catalog. I also found the atmosphere to be comfortable and surprisingly unpretentious, unlike say Napa Style on 4th Street in Berkeley. The entire space has a nice woody Western feel and there’s also a nice lounge area in back just outside of the dressing room. I ended up in section of the store that sold dog-related gifts. Gayle and Tyrone(the wonder Lab) are very happy with her Labra-door stop! Even though I ended up with a tchotchke, there is a considerable selection of great gifts that are not. And after I’ve made my holiday list and I’ve checked it twice, I’ll be back for gifts for those naughty and nice.

Great new addition to the village. Good selection of clothing so you too can dress like Robert Redford. Some great lamps that look to be made out of scrap metal but priced like fine art. Definitely worth a look.
