overpriced. Ribs and brisket no flavor and left over. Best part of the meal is the yellow cup

This is the kind of BBQ joint where u order at the counter and the food, which has been slow cooking all day, is ready in five minutes. No waiter service. No beer. But boy I like this food! Had the pulled pork one day and the pulled brisket another. My son got ribs both days. Top notch.

Let’s face it, this is like the McDonald’s of BBQ, cheap, fast and edible. The biggest complaint is that it’s probably a little overpriced for what it is. It ain’t great BBQ, but it is sadly the best BBQ in Cortland. When I need a quick fix, it’ll do, but if I want good BBQ, I’ll just do it at home.

Been here so many times since coming to school and it has been noting but delicious food since day one. The owners are great and care about their customers. There meets are superb and there hot barbecue sauce is a must to have. Also there is free ice cream at the end which just finished a great meal!

Didn’t know it was a chain. Not too shabby for a chain restaurant. Good flavor, tender, very nice staff. I don’t typically eat fitted food, however, I had to have the Okra! Oh and the jalapeño beans were excellent! Overall… I’d definitely go back!

Pretty decent BBQ. Pulled pork is smoky and not at all vinegary. Chicken a bit on the dry side but tasty. Fried okra was very good, as was the coleslaw. Other sides not so good. No beer or booze. Dinosaur BBQ up the road in Syracuse remains my favorite.

Average or slightly above, as bbq chains go. I went for the double meat meal(all brisket) because it offered 8 oz. of meat. $ 10.50. Can also buy by the pound($ 12 /lb.) Disappointing that there is no vinegar or hot sauce in this place. The sauces tend to be smokey and sweet. A feature of Texas style barbecue. Brisket can be sliced(drier) or chopped(juicier). I got the latter. Meal came with two sides, a roll, and a garnish of sliced pickles and, curiously, raw onion(a Texas thing?). Coleslaw is chopped /diced, chilled, slightly sweet, and very mild; not much mayo, vinegar, or spice at all. Potato salad is creamy with a lot of dill flavor but otherwise bland. Some chunks of stiffer potato. I indicated that I did not care for it and wished to buy green beans instead. The employee kindly gave me the green beans for free. Such service is a mark of a good chain. Rolls are similar to Miss Schuberts from the freezer. Kid’s sandwich comes on light sesame roll. Green beans are probably the best side. Good amount of bacon, lots of juice /«bean liquor.» An added bonus was coffee in a carafe during dinner time. This was more interesting to me than the fake ice cream machine with free chemical sludge(very icy).

Eh. It was ok. The beans were very sweet. The pulled pork was okay but the roll was mushy like Wonder Bread mushy. And I was told they didn’t have wifi, clearly they do when it comes up on my device but is password protected. Service was not too friendly or courteous. IMO, it just slightly better than Perkins or Friendlys. The free cone was a bonus but it was empty.

This may not be the very best BBQ you ever had if you’re including BBQ from South Carolina or some other southern state where BBQ is legionary, but Dickey’s is as good as it gets in New York. My husband and I were traveling down I81 and got hungry around Cortland, which is usually a problem because there’s not any restaurant worth stopping for in Cortland. As we were trying to decide between Wendy’s and McDonalds, we spied Dickey’s and decided to give it a try. We lived for years in Florida and you have to make some fine BBQ to impress us and Dicky’s did just that. It was like heaven covered with sauce. We both enjoyed every bite of our pulled pork, BBQ beans and coleslaw. We were just blown away that this jewel of a restaurant is just 40 minutes away(the fact that we’re willing to drive 40 minutes to eat here should tell you how good it is). We compared Dickey’s to Dinosaurs in Syracuse and think Dinosaurs might just win out for food, but when you factor in Dinosaurs wait time for a table and the scarce parking, Dickey’s is a real competitor.

this place has its pros and cons but i feel the cons outweigh the pros. i do like the décor and the sauce, and the free ice cream is a nice touch, and it seems like they do have some good specials. overall though i’d have to say this is the KFC of BBQ, but not as good. i’ve been here twice, once back in september and then once recently, and i wish i had remembered my september visit better before i came here the 2nd time. the first time i came i looked at the menu for a bit, as i did the 2nd time. their website says they have a 3 meat BBQ combo. well apparently this location does not. they have so many meats and i’m supposed to narrow it down to 2? the first time i went with the ribs and turkey combo and a brisket sandwich. for sides i got the jalepeno baked beans and the potato salad. the potato salad had a dill flavor to it that i was not a fan of. the beans i remember being good but they were very hot. not hot as in spicy but they were very warm and hard to eat. now that i think about it i did get a 3rd side, i got the mac n cheese. nothing special about it at all. it wasn’t bad, but it was just very generic. i don’t really remember how they ribs and brisket sandwich were, i think they were alright, but i remember picking up no smoke flavor on the turkey and i was kinda bummed about that. onto the 2nd visit. i got there and forgot there was no 3 meat combo. this time i did not opt for the additional sandwich. i just got the brisket and ribs combo along with the jalapeño beans and this time i got the baked potato cassarole, which is really just mashed potatoes with some of the skins left in and topped with a little bit of cheese. they were decent though. i wasn’t a big fan of the beans this time around though. as for the ribs, they were tender enough but the smoke flavor on them was really bitter, as if the flavor came from straight up charcoal instead of hickory wood. the brisket was a huge let down. as soon as i opened my to go box i saw a pile of chopped brisket and it hit me that last time i was there they asked if i wanted it sliced or chopped. this time they didn’t ask. i got a pile of dark brown overdone dry beef that had no smoke flavor to it at all. i got a slice of pecan pie with the meal too. you can tell it’s definitely not homemade but it was still pretty good. another thing i forgot to note earlier, it seems the people who were working there the first time around were a lot friendlier. i believe there were 2 women working. this time there was a guy working and he seemed like he did not want to be there, and probably didn’t put as much care into the food. their website says«if it’s not perfect, we don’t serve it». the ribs were passable but that brisket was unacceptable. overall i’d really give this place a 2.5. if yer on 81 and heading north, just keep going til you get to dinosaur bbq. if you’re heading south, just keep going until you’re out of PA and i’m sure you’re bound to find something good.

The brisket and turkey were on the dry side and very salty. Had a garden salad for $ 6.25 — maybe 2 – 3 leaves of lettuce(some wilted and black), with shredded cheese –didn’t see until I got home with my takeout and saw my half-filled container… really? Not too impressed.

Best BBQ food around and very nice workers. They have great specials and the prices are very good. I don’t really like the location as it is out of the way of most places that I go in Cortland– but I guess it would be good for them as it’s right off of 81. I get the beef brisket every time, it’s that good! But I have tried most of their other things too. Ribs would probably be my least favorite. But I definitely recommend the brisket if you can’t decide what to get.

The BBQ is literally the best in the area. Not that there are many options … The pulled pork is amazing, the brisket is … not as amazing but still great. I have not tried the ham so I cannot comment. The sides are all great so long as you avoid the mac and cheese … not good, but everything else is great. Not too expensive for what you get, and the food is amazing both in portion size and taste /quality. No complaints at all.

We were on our way home from Maryland and getting really tired of the typical fast food. Dickey’s was easy to get to — right off 81. We got fast and friendly service and very tasty food. The free ice cream cone as we left was a great touch. We will be stopping there again!

I travel up and down I-81 on a regular basis and saw the billboard sign for Dickey’s and I do enjoy BBQ and decided to stop. The layout of the restaurant is nice. I decided to go for the daily special which was the pulled pork BBQ sandwich with 2 sides and a drink. The BBQ sandwich was very good and worth 4 starts. Just needed a bit more sauce and there was no sauce placed at the tables. The mashed potato casserole was worth 5 stars. The bad part was the mac and cheese and worth one star. Tasted like it came right out of a can and heated up. The drink cups are huge and the free soft serve ice cream is a nice touch. I will come back and try again with different sides.

Being originally from Texas… I am familiar with Dickie’s. So how excited was I to see one open in Cortland? Crazy excited. Ribs, sausage, pulled pork… it’s like BBQ heaven! Oh and the delicious sides. fried okra bites, mac and cheese, waffle fries, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, bacon green beans – just to name a few! Friendly and efficient service, this place rocks. Oh and don’t forget to grab your free soft serve cone for dessert – the perfect ending to a delectable meal. We can’t wait to be back!
