I love Louie’s. It never disappoints. The polpo and beams is the best ap, and all the entrees I’ve tried have been amazing. They are great if you have an allergy and can make changes to the menu for you. Staff is really nice. The bar is also a great spot to meet friends for a drink. Prices are fair.

So we went back to Louie’s for the umpteenth time last night, this time with a bigger group than usual. What was not unusual was that the food and service were spot on(for the vibe and expectations of the place), and we had a great time. A moment on the wine list: Really it is very good, especially for an unpretentious mid-range restaurant. We had a Cerreto Barolo last night that was priced reasonably(2X retail — some places have gone as high as 3X these days), and a Sanford pinot noir that you almost never see. Gems. This is a hard thing to do, to come up with interesting wines for discerning people at reasonable prices. Almost no place has the intelligence and taste to pull it off, but Louie’s does. My favorite appetizer is the hot peppers with provolone. The peppers are usually scorching, which I like, and somehow the melted cheese and tomatoes really round it out. I make this at home now. Blue point oysters were perfect(oysters of course are binary — either perfect or inedible). Calamari fritti, crispy, a little chewy and very tasty. My son had chicken parm and my father in law had veal parm. I tasted both and liked the way the meat was pounded and lightly breaded, but somehow the thinly sliced(pre-sliced?) cheese took something away from the hominess of the dish, made it feel slightly cheap. My snapper was excellent, finished in a lemony white wine sauce with capers that really highlighted the freshness and flakiness of the fish. My mother in law’s grilled chicken with salad on top(can’t remember the name of the dish) was a bit bland — she would have preferred the chicken pounded and fried, and of course could have had it that way if she’d asked. My other son had spaghetti bolognese. which was meaty and rich, the way it should be. Desserts: chocolate mousse tasted a little bland and processed to me. My italian(ricotta) cheesecake was light and not too sweet, so pretty perfect. Lemon sorbet was lemony and cold. Espressos were rich and not excessively bitter. Overall, we’re really happy Louie’s has a home in Greenwich and is open on Sunday nights. We’re regulars there and plan to remain so.

Surprised by the reviews. I didn’t choose this place but went to dinner with some friends that chose it and was happy with the experience. The good: I really enjoyed the food. Thought it was excellent, if traditional, italian. The caesar salad was above average. The pasta I got(short rib ravioli) was fantastic. The dessert(blueberry crumb pie) was also very very good. The ambience was also nice. We sat in the back room where it was very casual at a big table seating 8. The bad: service was subpar. Nothing horrible. The waitress was just not very good. She took orders based on our seat position rather than who was ready or female to male. Just seemed amateurish. They were slow to refill waters and not attentive about additional drinks. I asked for bread to mop up the delicious pasta sauce I had, but it didn’t come on its own. I also asked about their beers and she could basically list two or three. Either they have a terrible beer list, which I doubt, or she didn’t know them. Rather than slow up the rest of our party I just chose one of those two — it was fine but it would’ve been nice to know my options. She was friendly enough though. Parking was valet. It is a tight lot on a curve so don’t mess around with anything else. The prices are Greenwich prices. Deal with it. The pasta was really good and everybody else seemed to enjoy their meals thoroughly. Overall the food was good enough to outweight the minor negatives of the price, service, etc.

Louie’s has become our go-to place since Pierangelo has taken charge. He adds so much to the dining experience, always quite attentive & making us feel welcome. Food is consistent but menu is slightly dated. Bar scene is active and a nice place to dine.

«Z» the new bartender is so pleasant, helpful and damn, does he know how to shake up a martini! My martini stayed cold all the way to the bottom — but let’s be honest, it didn’t survive long enough to get warm. Their Pasta e Fagioli soup is out of this world. Very heavy and can be a dinner. I haven’t had a better version of this soup anywhere else(except my mom’s). Louie’s has my favorite pasta dish — their Spaghetti Bolognese. The red sauce seems to have a touch of cream so it’s more of a meaty pink sauce. It’s rare to find the perfect pasta to sauce ratio and Louie’s masters it. Order it with a glass of the Montepulciano, and it’s heaven for dinner. Another favorite entrée, Chicken Louie’s, which is chicken in a sharp, very slightly creamy lemon sauce with the most perfectly cooked, fresh asparagus. It sounds simple, but is out of this world. I’ve always been too full for dessert :)

Went there for the first time on Mother’s Day. Food was top-notch; exactly the kind of cuisine one would expect. The francaise was excellent; we had chicken and fish dishes. The appetizers and desert were splendid. I would go back again. We found the wait staff extremely attentive. WARNING: If it’s very crowded, DONOT sit in the back room; ask to sit in the small alcove, or even sit in the bar-room, if you decide to stay. It’s worth the wait. It was extremely noisy in the back room; almost deafening. Adults were shouting over each other. Granted it, was Mother’s Day and unruly children were running a muck — but no one, including parents, were attempting to restore any sense of manners, etiquette nor offer a polite«dining in public» experience.(YOU’RENOTINYOURHOME, PARENTS! Being subjected to your kid’s poor behavior in public is plain rude, lacks consideration and is boorish — look it up). If I wanted this kind of ambiance, I’d go to McDonalds or Pizza Hut for $ 20 — but for a $ 200 for dinner & wine — um – no. Yes parking is an issue, but I do look forward to going back, on a quiet night, for steak and pasta.

Typical Italian fair, well prepared but presented without much thought. Wine list is average and something for all price points. Service has always been polite and attentive. Parking is an issue so valet is your only option. Interior could use an update.

We had a family Sunday dinner there tonight. The food was not great but average for the overpricing. My husband ordered a dinner size Caesar salad with 4 shrimp. When the bill came, the salad was $ 20 plus $ 16 for the shrimp. Where would you find a salad in Greenwich for $ 36. That is just ridiculous! All of their entrees are in the $ 20 range. I complained about the overpriced salad and they said that they charge $ 4 per shrimp. Omg! He didn’t offer to take it off the bill but give us a free dessert after telling him repeatedly that we just wanted to leave. He packed a cannoli dessert. When we got home we tried the cannoli and they were hollow-they had a tiny bit of filling on either end to make them look like a real cannoli. We will never go back there again.

Went On a Sunday evening, It was quiet, service was attentive, food was decent but not terribly inventive… the definition of old school Italian. For what it is though it’s extremely overpriced. I think it subsists on an older crowd(60’s+) that wants consistent food in a predictable atmosphere and is completely insensitive/oblivious to the fact that they are paying a huge premium to what this sort of a place should be able to charge.

Everything on the menu is delicious! I especially love their side of mushrooms — random, but seriously worth the order.

Made a 7pm reservation for 5 people for a Sat. night. A celebration dinner for our group. They called us that afternoon to confirm our 6:45 res. and insisted that’s what was booked. Ok, we show up early at 6:30 to have a drink and the maitre’d tries to seat us which we decline. He actually came back 10 minutes later and looked at his watch! We sit(a table right behind us at the bar), they rush(the waiter plopped the specials board on the table between me and my friend mid-conversation), the bar fills with people who are now bumping into us. It was almost laughable except that our celebration was truly ruined. They bring the check while we are still eating dessert and luckily someone noticed that they had included a 20% gratuity without mentioning it — for 5 people? Never experienced that. We paid the bill and took our coffee to the bar because we were so uncomfortable, which had now emptied out. I noticed that the table of two next to us who sat down at the same time were eating their entrees. I would actually have respected them if they had kindly explained the obvious and offered to buy us a drink or dessert at the bar– they were overbooked and really needed our table. Instead, we paid for a very expensive dinner that was possibly the worst dining experience i’ve ever had.

Local place for us — but service is incredibly slow and inattentive tonight. Food was good but lack of attention ruined the night out for us. Matre’D needs some customer service training

Disappointed. You really want this place to succeed. Waitstaff really tried to get it right. But the food could be better. I had the seafood capellini, wife had a chicken entrée. And a smallish mixed green salad. I needed to ask for additional sauce for the capellini which in any event was too bland for my taste… And the chicken overcooked. Maybe it was an off-night. We will never know.

I just got back from dining at Louie’s with my best friend. I heard from a nearby business that this place was amazing and it sure was! It was outstanding! The food was fresh and delicious! The service was great too! I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family and everyone reading this! :)

Last night I met friends for dinner at Louie’s. We had a wonderful time sharing delicious food, wine and, of course, great company. The specials were mouth watering but I chose to go with the Orecchiette Bari — Ear shaped Pasta with Broccoli di Rabe, Sausage, Garlic & Olive Oil. I enjoyed every last morsel. The food is always excellent here. Friday nights are busy with a mostly local crowd. Saturdays are really hopping with people three deep at the bar, I’ve been told. I live close by so I know it’s always active even on a weeknight.

I felt compelled to write this review because of the misleading review posted by someone frustrated about the wait. There’s a wait because the food and service are outstanding. The restaurant has a cordial staff that can accommodate the whole spectrum of diners. We love Louie’s for date or family occasions. Seafood salad, all veal dishes and lava cake can’t be beat.

I had a horrible experience here on a recent Saturday night. They only take reservations for parties of 6 or more, and we were four so we had no choice but to go and wait — ok, fine. We arrived at 7:30 to a packed restaurant — the tables were full and the bar and lobby were literally shoulder-to-shoulder. The hostess said it would be maybe 30 minutes and we agreed, figuring if it’s that busy then the food has to be worth it. Well, we waited 90 minutes. No, that’s not a typo — we arrived at 7:30 and were seated at 9PM. NINE! Ridiculous. While we spent eternity in the lobby, several large parties with reservations arrived and were seated. The curious thing was that we noticed the hostess was taking down people’s names but every so often she would skip a line. Now I can’t say this for certain, but it seemed as if when«regulars» would stroll in and request a table, they would get one of those cozy open spots on the list, have a glass of wine, and be seated within a few minutes. I understand that it’s in the restaurant’s best interest to show some favoritism to regular customers, but this was ridiculous. Finally — the food. It was very good, I’ll give them that, but not amazing. I had the veal picatta and they gave me, literally, two veal chops and almost nothing else on the plate. I asked the waiter if it came with pasta and he reassured me that it came with roasted potatoes. It did. Two slices of roasted potato rested on a piece of cauliflower and that was it. It was a bit peculiar. My boyfriend had the lobster ravioli, which turned out to be cheese ravioli with a lobster sauce. For the low, low price of $ 23 he got three actual bites of lobster meat in the sauce! How spectacular! I’m never going back. If you’re craving Italian, go to Mike’s in Norwalk — it’s amazing. So those are my thoughts about Louie’s. Oh, and the house chardonnay is ten bucks a glass. Awesome.
