My God this place is fantastic. Cash only! I drive by here every night almost, and think, «Maybe tonight I’ll have a go at it…» Tonight I did and man that is good BBQ! I mean, the pulled pork was tender and just so juicy! The brisket was fall off, pull away, just. oh. so good. Since it was my first time and I wanted to have both! I got half and half in a french roll. free side of chips and extra sauce for a whopping total $ 10.01. sans the .01 since the owners are awesome. The only problem I’ve found with this place is that you tend to wait for a while at the register before someone’s comes to help… They just need to work on that. This place is somewhat off the beaten path of Newport BLVD, but now I’m kinda glad it is! It’s a small place with huge signs that say BBQ. oh and they DELIVER to Costa Mesa Newport Beach.(within a 5 mile radius and min $ 20) but still! You could get 2 whole rack of ribs for that price and have it be brought straight to your door. I’m in love with this place. Definitely coming back again. and again. and again.

This little hole in the wall if by far my favorite BBQ place around the Costa Mesa /Newport area. Their chili and brisket are both amazing. The mac and cheese should be a mandatory side. Great food, large portions, and nice people running the place. Give it a try!

Solid 3. Really far cry from good BBQ I’ve had in the past. Sides were average and served a little cold. On the plus side, the restaurant is cute and decked out in random paraphernalia, including some L.A. Kings gear(completely random and they’re not really fans but still a plus for me, haha) and the owner/employers are super friendly and nice.

Though good BBQ is hard to find, coming across caring and genuine business owners seems to be even harder. This place has both. I’m not the most active reviewer, per say, but I’m on Unilocal all of the time looking for my next(usually food-related) adventure. I’ve been here multiple times and have always had a good experience. However, the one in particular that stood out as 5 star to me was one time where I came in with a couple of co-workers and ran into an issue with having cash and their ATM machine being down. Instead of me not eating, Tim Murphy kindly asked if I wanted to order something and said I could pay him later on that day or the next time I came in. Pretty cool to see that there’s trust like that still out there and business owners and customers can still build relationships on that foundation. Check these guys out, you won’t be disappointed.

First time trying BBQ220 — used to live in Newport and always drove by this place. Finally went in and ate their for dinner. Got there a little before closing so we had the place to ourselves. Great service — friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful — we tried a little of everything! Pulled pork, chicken, ribs, sausage and got one of each side. Plus the owner brought us out some gumbo and cheese quesadillas to try for free! All of it was incredible and I will definitely come back here when I crave some quality(and quantity) BBQ!

Overall, is was very good. The portion sizes were generous and the flavor was pretty good(especially for the price). I personally, loved the brisket. The owner doesn’t seem like much of a business man as he was open til past 9 on Friday and didn’t know his Unilocal profile only said it was open to 8. He didn’t seem to have many customers either and the beer selection was pretty poor. However, they guy was very friendly and hospitable. So I’ll definitely be going back again!

A hidden gem. I was having a major craving for BBQ and thanks to my Unilocal App, I found a great little place in Costa Mesa not too far from Triangle Square. It’s in a small plaza just down the way from the Beach City car wash. They were literally BBQing in their front patio when we got there. I tried: BBQ Chicken Beef Brisket Mac & Cheese 3 Meat Gumbo Chili Both the chicken and meat were delicious. Moist and Flavorful. I was really disappointed that they ran out of ribs, they were just about the BBQ more but I would have had to wait another hour. I felt the Gumbo was a bit too salty but the Mac & Cheese was really good. My friend loved their brisket and chili. On a side note we were very happy to see that the owners of the restaurant were hardcore Lakers fan which made my experience even better. They had a T-shirt posted on restroom door that said F the Celtics which I loved!

This place is an amazing little hole in the wall. They make DELICIOUSBBQ, with homestyle sides. Everything is fresh, served on paper plates, and makes you feel like you’re having a picnic. The burritos are great– you can mix multiple meats together. I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, which was delightful. It’s true that they do run out of some beverages and meats later in the day, but that’s understandable, since everything is cooked fresh every day. They serve beer here, have great service, and a really warm, friendly environment. Small amount of seating inside and outside. Parking lot provided.

Notice how all the 1 Star reviews are by a bunch of Groupon chincers. Hey chincers, get off Unilocal and go back to chincinatti you chinceaholics. This BBQ is the best in the Costa Mesa/Newport area. I’ll admit that’s not sayin much but still, it’s damn good. I gave 5 stars to help make up for the groupon chince reviews, but really it’s 4 stars.

I love BBQ. If you are an avid reader of my reviews(I doubt there’s that many of you), you know there are two things that makes me happy in terms of food and drink. That’s good BBQ and good craft beer. Surprisingly they go so well together. For you Unilocal people who knows where I live, I have still yet to do a BBQ at my house. I know I know, I’m working on it. Now back to the review, I ventured into this place because I bought one of those vouchers for ½ price from OC Register. Hey, why not? I like to try them all if i can. Upon reading the reviews, some were super great, some were super not. Thinking…well, maybe this place is mediocre. I can hang with mediocre. So I came in, on a Saturday, the guy in front me me in line has never been here before. The co-owner gives the spiel on how great the brisket is and he BBQs it at 220 degrees for 22 hours. Hmmm… I smoke my BBQ brisket, pulled pork, ribs, all at around 150 degrees and depending on the size, maybe no more than 6 hours. So I ordered the brisket plate and the pulled pork plate. Came with the option of sides. I chose Mac N cheese and the Chili. I had to pay for the taxes on the food even though the voucher was exactly for the amount paid. No problem, sets me back a couple dollars and change. Note: Their website pricing is incorrect, I believe it’s $ 1 off. So expect your item to be $ 1 more when you’re inside. BTW, there were no craft beers here, I just saw a fridge with domestic when I came. That and a empty Stone’s fridge. While waiting, I take in notice of what’s around. Bike shops, car shops on the same street. Ok, so this was an industrial area. I also noticed the two BBQ in the parking lot. Not sure if they used it, but it did not seem hot. It probably couldn’t have been hot because there was a tent above it. Since I got this to go, I immediately took a bit and wanted to taste the integrity of the food while it was just served. Note, portions are small, but it doesn’t really matter(I’ll tell you why soon enough). The brisket-It was chopped in pieces almost like pulled pork. It was drenched in oil bath/sauce and it was just strangely salty. Ok… let me try the other. The pulled pork-It was also chopped in pieces(when i say chopped, I mean like if you put it through a strainer, it might fall through) and also drenched in oil bath/sauce. This oil bath /sauce is best described if you heat up a can of Stag Chili in the microwave and you will notice the red oil to preserve the chili. Honestly, I couldn’t make out what was pulled pork and what was brisket even though it clearly was written by the guy on the line. I believe he also salts the meat at the end and put on that large piece of decorative greens for presentation. Moving on the the chili and mac and cheese-Well, the chili is best described by just the Stag Chili in a can described above. Just salty. I think my skin is pretty hydrated by now. As for the Mac, they use big pasta shells, not your little elbow mac shells. They also have a heavy hand in pepper here with very little cheese. So I wasn’t sure if this was supposed to be called Big Mac and Pepper instead? So sorry to say, I threw pretty much most of it away. $ 24 worth of food, finished in less than 1 minute. I did not feel good the same night, I would say it’s a 2 star review . Can’t say you will find me here, but I sure do hope they will take heed of what I said about this mystery oil/sauce and get ride of it.

NEGATIVE5IFPOSSIBLE, probably one of the WORST and most RUDEST places I’ve had to step foot into because of GROUPON. The groupon i bought expired on 11/28, I decided to come a few days earlier to use it, I check the website, check their hours, head out on Monday 11/26, get there, it’s closed, CLOSEDMONDAYS, um… really? that’s not what the website says(i have a screenshot to prove it, that i sent to groupon to complain), I go Tuesday 11/27, i get there, walk in IMMEDIATELY they ask if I’m using groupon like I’m some sort of criminal, i say yes and they ask me to leave because they aren’t accepting groupn because it’s «taco Tuesday» i told them that i wasn’t planning on taking advantage of the taco Tuesday offer and will be ordering off their regular menu, the employee was kind but the OWNER yes the OWNER came up to me and started lecturing me about how I can’t use the groupon period on Tuesdays, i show him the fine print it says that i can’t use it for taco Tuesday, no where does it says i can’t use it for TUESDAYS. I work in the legal dept of my company for work and i don’t need him to lecture me on terms and agreements. so now it gets worse, as I’m standing there pretty lost he tells me that it’s not his fault that I waited till the last minute to use my groupon and that I should have planned ahead. UM… EXCUSEME??? WHENDIDYOU become my personal planner? I don’t need you to tell me what I should have done, maybe you SHOULDHAVE updated your website to show that you are closed on Monday? the Owner’s attitude was completely disrespectful and rude. great way to run a business. LASTLY, I decide to go back on 11⁄28(MY3RDTRY) to use the offer, i get there around 6 and bam lights are off, chairs on the table, sign on the door says sold out. REALLY? REALLY? this is unacceptable. completely shady and bad business ethics. I’ve written a response to groupon already to ask for my money back. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER GOBACK THISPLACEDESERVES to go out of business and i hope it does, customer service is EVERYTHING to me, I’m unhappy about their shady business ethics but I’m MORE pissed off at how the owner spoke to me, completely rude old guy who acts like he can lecture me and teach me how to live my life.

CLOSEDONMONDAYS! Been eying this place for over a year now b/c I would see it on my way to work. It’s walking distance from medical offices near Hoag. Nice little BBQ Joint! Like the décor and comfortable feeling in the restaurant. Few tables outside too! MENU: BBQ: pulled pork, Louisiana hot links, beef brisket, chicken. You can have it on a plate with sides OR in a freshly baked french roll(not to soft and not too hard — just right!). They also have burritos and tacos. –I got the pulled pork sandwich($ 8.50) w/BBQ sauce on side. Tender meat with light seasoning. The BBQ sauce was tangy and flavorful. HEARTY portion size. I saved some of the meat to eat later on. –Beef brisket sandwich($ 8.50) was also very tender and nicely flavored as well. BBQ was on the side too. This was better than the pulled pork. SIDES: Tried the Mac & Cheese($ 5 for large size). Good and cheesy! Cheese was not overly creamy and runny. Heavy though! SPECIALS: –waiter brought out a 3 meat gumbo sample for each of us. This was GOOD! Had a great KICK to it. I would get this again. –Tuesday tacos $ 2.50 –Wed burrito: $ 5(??) PARKING — small lot SERVICE: Friendly staff! Waiter brought us our utensils, condiments needed and cleared out our table for us. Cash register dude a little OFF though. He almost charged me $ 5 more for my meal and forgot to give my friend her $ 5 change. If we were not on top of it… we would have been jipped. BECAREFUL!

OMG … mac n cheese. enough said. — Beef brisket plate was just alright. The meat wasn’t too flavorful — Pulled pork sandwich was ok. I’ve had better + But the mac n cheese is out of this world! I would come back just for that. It’s made with penne pasta rather than the usual macaroni pasta. So cheesy, I felt like I died and went to heaven. After I left the restaurant, I was still talking about the mac n cheese for the rest of the day … that’s how good it is.

I’m giving one star because Unilocal does not allow me to give negative stars. I had the chicken sandwich and it’s pretty big. I opened it up to eat the chicken with a fork and my hubs stuck his fork in to taste my chicken. He found a BONE! Now this was not just some small, random chicken bone. This bone was about three inches long and looked like the bone that Pebbles Flintstone wears in her hair, you know, it’s straight with two little round knobs on each end. Google Pebbles and you will see exactly what I’m talking about. UGH! All I can say is that I’m just glad I didn’t chomp into this and break a tooth or several teeth! I didn’t even bother to tell the two guys at the counter. One guy was OK., the other was surly and looked kind of crazy and scary. One reviewer labeled this place«hard core». She hit the nail on the head. NOWAY in hellz was I going to go up to the counter to complain about that chicken bone! The food = below average. My hubs had the potato salad that included potato’s that were RAW, as in NOTCOOKED. Since when does potato salad mean eating raw, uncooked potato’s? Don’t think I will be back, No, wait, I KNOW I won’t be back!

Nice place that is pet friendly. Small little place, but is kind of out of the way for some BBQ. Got to say, pulled pork; nicely done. Ribs were freshly made(we waited for an hr for them); but sadly didn’t meet my expectations. Oh no. I have had better. Service: what can I say, top notice. Guy at the counter that took our order was very delightful and my bill was $ 20.68; he cut it even at $ 20 since I had the Groupon deal. Not much, but certainly will make a person’s meal feel above and beyond. After we had been served, a few moments later I believe it was the owner that came over and asked how everything was. Place is clean and there’s a TV inside with games streaming. For you basketball fans, like me! There’s a F*** the Celtics t-shirt on the wall. hehe. BONUS! Parking is pretty easy since it’s shared with a few other complexes in the area.

We came here because of a groupon deal during our visit to Newport Beach for Memorial Day Weekend. I came here because I’m totally a ribs girl. I had high expectations. We came here for ribs, hence I bought the groupon!!! They ran out of ribs. Ok, maybe I docked a point for a ribs joint that ran out of ribs. Granted they had a groupon deal going on and they were busy, but come on! If you know that you have a groupon deal, you should have bought more ribs!!! So I got the brisket sandwich with a side of macaroni and cheese. It was a good amount of food for about $ 9. BTW if you check in on Unilocal, you get another free side! I’m all about free food if it’s available! :) Come on, it’s a free way to try food before committing some money to it. The brisket sandwich was good, not amazing by any means. It was moist and juicy but the flavor was lacking a bit. I had to ask for more BBQ sauce to get some more flavor. Mac and cheese wasn’t really mac and cheese. It was more of ziti with a light dressing of cheese. I wish there were more cheese in there. But, it was alright, I love cheese and I have pasta(you can’t go wrong there). For my free side, I got their chili. It was really boring, tasted like it came out of a can. Overall, the food was ok, nothing great, but at least it wasn’t bad. Parking is cramped. Seating is limited. Very loud. The staff is very friendly, almost annoying because they were screaming and yelling to people outside the building, one staff was blatantly flirting with a lady over the counter loudly and annoyingly. If you’re into places like that, awesome. I wasn’t feeling it because I was trying to relax, not listening to an old man trying to flirt with an old lady doused in botox. Recap: brisket was good, moist and juicy. Small place, about 4 tables inside.

So the standout here is the service! Came here for lunch and not sure if they guys behind the counter were the owners but they were super friendly and helpful. The BBQ iself was was good. best bbq ever? No. but tasty nonetheless. Also thought the prices were really reasonable compared to a lot of other bbq places. Combo plates for like $ 11 versus $ 15 – 16 at Beach Pit. The place itself is really cute. small but cute with a lot of fun things on the wall. I will say the parking sucks though. the spots are shared with some other businesses so a little hard to find a spot, and Superior is not very street parking friendly either. .

BBQ Two 20 serves fantastic BBQ. If this place was near my house I expect I’d find myself eating here 1 – 2 times per month. Applause for the love put into the BBQ. The staff(and possibly owner) is enthusiastic at BBQ. The man helping us answered several detailed questions about BBQ from patrons while we were enjoying our lunch. I enjoyed a combo platter of pulled pork and brisket with sides of macaroni and cheese and Texas baked beans. I would have ordered pork ribs but those were only available after 4pm and I was there for lunch at 1pm. The beer menu was impressive, but there was some sort of operational glitch this weekend as there were only three mass market beers in the fridge and the distributor was due on Monday. Let me k now if this is unusual and I’ll remove it from the post, but it was a bit of a bummer because there are A LOT of good beers on that menu. if I had a choice between BBQ Two 20 and Beechwood BBQ, I’d choose Beechwood in Seal Beach. BBQ Two 20 is worth it’s salt(and sauce) though.

Hmmm… thanks to my friend who suggested BBQ after seeing the BBQ Two 20 sign from the Dainese store across the street. We both love BBQ and since this place looked pretty good from the outside we stopped in. Décor…nice! The place looks like a nice small mom’s and pop’s place. A TV to watch your games on, patio seating, etc. What didn’t lack in décor lacked in the food. The BBQ sauce was probably the best out of everything we ordered… tangy and sweet. I had the uberly tough and chewy beef brisket sandwich and my friend had the chicken BBQ sandwich which was bland. Potato salad tasted like it was from Costco and the«BAKEDBEANS» tasted like chili from a can. Chili from a can? They could of at least been baked beans from a can or something as advertised! Soda cans only for your beverages. This place has potential like some of the other reviewers stated and I’d be happy to check out BBQ Two 20 again the next time I’m around. But right now, their BBQ lacks in taste.
