Fun little bar tucked away behind Pit Fire Pizza. I love Pit Fire pizza so we gave this place a try. Happy hour is great, nice selection of food and drinks at great prices and they were also serving Barley Forge brews, I don’t think it can get more local than that.

Drank a lot. Ate a lot. Some of the best happy hr in terms of value and quality. Small place, so best to get there early and beat the rush. We were able to push tables together for a larger party, but would not have been able to later in the night when it got crowded.

One of my favorite places for drinks in OC. It’s a speakeasy. The drinks are strong and unique. The pizza are pretty darn good… it can get pretty crowded after 9 pm and may be hard to find seating. The best bang for your buck is during HH, pizzas are $ 5.

I want to learn how they make their dough for pizza and pasta. On a good day, it’s like what you would imagine a Top Chef Master known for their pasta would make. The baked mac & cheese is all the much better solely b/c of the jumbo orecchiette pasta. All happy hour dishes are $ 5 — pizza comes in either 9.5″ cheese or pepperoni which = good as* deal. The dough isn’t consistent but when it’s good, it rivals my favourite pizza place in Japan and when it’s off, it’s still better than all the other places in OC(not factoring in the price). If you like your dough on the chewy side but w/the light crusty crunch, this is the place. Power hour(s) happy hour runs all night Mondays and 5−8pm Tuesday — Sunday. Vibe has a mix of ambient and 90’s hip hop music, beachside surfer/patrons outside of the newport bubble(aka i’m the only asian person) + they switch up the themes of their menu. last time it was aeronautics, this time was TV guide. One of the servers didn’t know what a Midori Sour was and a bartender was going thru libation flashcards but they still have a decent selection of whiskey.

Favorite local bar, cozy quaint speak-easy feel. Can’t go wrong with the $ 5 happy hour food til 10pm. Friendly staff and great drink selection.

Power hour every day 5 – 8 and all day Monday. The $ 5 pizzas are amazing. Comes from the same kitchen as PitFire so I would imagine so. Choices from cheese or pepperoni. The crust is more on the chewy/stretchy side. I’m a big fan of their pizza and this is a must have for HH. Baked Mac & Cheese — pretty simple and solid mac. What I really like is the pasta. Took some research but I think they’re call Orecchiette(?) I want to say the pasta is made fresh in house but have not confirmed. It was that good! If you really want to get hammered go for the tall boy of PRB with a shot of rye whiskey for $ 5.

Man this place was recommended to me. Favorite spot to drink were his words. While the drinks are tasty the service is absolutely horrible. Ignored, forgotten, neglected, all of the above. I won’t be coming back. If you can’t stay on top of your Bartop as a bartender I’ll just go somewhere the bartenders aren’t in over their heads remember an order correctly or copy it down. Should I return I’ll bring the dude a notepad to keep

Great drinks and awesome vibe! I like going here late night. It wasn’t too crowded and the people were low key. Music was a little loud but it was still fun!

Amazing food at the adjacent Pit Fire upfront and stellar drink selection. Not to mention on Fridays they have a solid dj spinning delish house, hiphop & Latin music! I like the idea that they have this hidden speakeasy adjacent to their storefront. The people with negative comments about it clearly don’t know the definition of the word. Newsflash: speakeasy = hidden bar! If you’re expecting Fats Waller on a piano and broads in hoop skirts or something you have been severely misled! Come with an open attitude and have fun. For a bar this place is clean, nice décor, great service and most importantly delish drinks. It’s a great grown up escape from the teenage wasteland/coed zoo/club scene down the way!

Best happy hour in town as far as «bang for your buck». Excellent selection of grub, and it’s filling! I wish their drinks were a notch more affordable, but at the same time, they are very high quality — so I understand. Not much more I can say except — you guys do a good job!

Disappointing. Speakeasy?! No way Pie Society was more like a hidden man cave. The vibe was aesthetically retro with great furnishings on the wall and the music playing was phenomenal at Pie.(At Pitfire they had an awesome DJ spinning all types of oldies and goodies). The drink prices were comparable(ranging from $ 5,$ 10 and $ 12 drinks) BUT don’t be fooled: the glasses were smaller than usual and the amount of alcohol in the drinks were substantially lower than your average cocktail. One of the things that totally threw me off was when the security guard extended the room: the wall opened up to a cafeteria themed extension where there were literally elementary styled school chairs placed with community tables.

Came here on a Tuesday night. Had the green eggs and ham pizza, pickle back shot & old fashion, while listening to some old school hip hop tunes. Chill atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Huh, I guess I can’t update my last review. That’s a shame. This gem of a bar is located in the back of Pitfire Grill. Just wander to the back area, past the kitchen, and open the door that looks like it leads to a back alley, and you’ve found Pie Society! You can order craft cocktails, and pies from Pitfire, making it my favorite pizza joint in Costa Mesa. Happy Hour here is on Mondays — Friday from 5 – 7. The deal provides for $ 2 off all drinks(which typically range from $ 10-$ 12) and $ 5 simple appetizers. The simple appetizers aren’t listed on the menu so I’ll just list them here: Cheese pizza Pepperoni Pizza Ricotta flatbread(essentially herbal bread with a ricotta dip) Broccolini Hand-crafted Chicken Meatballs Breadsticks The drinks here are awesome, and worth the price. My personal favorite is the Baltimore Bang, although my friends couldn’t stop drinking the White Girl Wasted. If you don’t like any of the drinks they provide, the bartenders are more than willing to mix up something creative for you if you give them a bit of guidance. The HH food is rather forgettable. It’s worth it to splurge on getting a real pizza, like the sausage party. I know that, for the same price, you can have two mediocre pepperoni pizzas. But if you’re spending $ 8 – 10 per drink anyways, you might as well get a $ 12 pizza.

Pie Society is a cute quaint bar/lounge tucked behind Pitfire Pizza. Its literally a hidden gem! Walking in .you absorb a vibrant essence of the bar and the dim lights set a more loungy vibe. They do have a great happy hour with selected menu items at a discounted price of $ 5 or more. We ordered the meatballs, 2 pizzas, kale salad, cheesy tators and a few cocktails. The cocktails are definitely hand crafted and they use fresh ingredients as my drink had a strong pungent ginger flavor. My brother had a few cocktails that were whiskey based and definitely enjoyed them. The place is small and seating is limited as first come first serve basis. There is also outside seating as well. The food was amazing and the cocktails were out of this world delicious. Will definitely be back!

*Get the chicken meat balls, you will not be disappointed* I love the speakeasy theme of this place — especially since they play old school hip hop. Very dim and intimate with that West Coast vibe. Drinks here are great and strong, pairs well with the pizzas. I believe drinks ranged from $ 8 to $ 14? I guess it really depends on which alcohol you get. Loved the Hell Paso and Death of a Matador since I am a tequila fan! My friend’s drinks were great too. Thanks to our waitress for creating a drink perfect for the birthday boy(he rarely drinks!) We ordered the Mushroom Pizza and Sausage Party(fest?) pizza — both which were great! Mushroom being my favorite. Can get pricey, but still a great place to grab some good drinks and surprisingly great food. I spent $ 98 for 2 ½ people(this was like 6 drinks and one pizza and meatballs).

We arrived at 7:30 on a Saturday. This place is behind the Pitfire Pizza, it’s hard to find if you aren’t looking for it. Park in the back and there’s a back entrance for Pie Society. It wasn’t too crowded yet. We ordered some drinks from the speakeasy-esque bar and they were pretty good. They had old fashioned jello shooters which were actually an Old Fashion in a jello shooter. BF did not like this, I thought they were fun and had 2! The pizza is great! And so were the chicken meatballs. I’d definitely come back just for the food and eat in the main restaurant with my son. Pie society was fun too and I think BF and I will def be back! I’d recommend this place for anyone who likes a casual atmosphere and delish pizza and cocktails.

I’ve had many drinks here and quite a few food items. Had apps from when they first opened when food was done by the superba snack bar people. Enjoyed that variety to now when they go straight from the pitfire menu. nonetheless the pitfire food is good. you’re really coming here for the drinks. good variety and each are $ 12-$ 14. They even have PBR if you are a hipster. service here is hit or miss. sometimes it takes a long time to get a drink and the bartender or server forgets about you. but when service is on point this place is a real good time.

Pie Society is suppose to be a speakeasy. nothing really speakeasy about it beside that the entrance is a bit hidden. Location is behind Pitfire Pizza. We drove around the plaza a couple of times and happen to see a few people walking into it. We weren’t required a reservation or password which was great. The old fashioned was really good and strong. Definitely order this! I also tried this drink with bourbon, stone IPA, and pineapple. That was not good. Don’t remember the name either. Bartender was nice.

I’ve been to some pretty amazing speakeasies in Chicago and also had a chance to visit a fantastic one in SF, so I decided to look for ones of similar caliber in the OC. I was originally going to visit Casa, but decided to check out Pie Society instead(I was turned away by the $ 5 cover at Casa). There are two ways to get to Pie Society — either through the pizza store or from the back, and I chose to enter through the back(didn’t want to walk into the restaurant and awkwardly stand there looking for the correct entrance). Someone checked my ID and I was let in. Firstly, this place really doesn’t have much of a speakeasy feel to it — it was relatively easy to find, and no secret password/hidden entrance that are characteristic of speakeasies. So no cool tricks there. Also, the place is small and really loud. My voice was pretty much shot by the end of the night even though I was only conversing with one person because I had to yell to be heard. Drinks are a hit or miss. I really enjoyed the Sgt. Pepper’s Last Stand($ 10) — quite fruity and a great balance between good flavor and a sufficient alcoholic kick. I also tried the jungle bird($ 12), which was really disappointing. Rather bland, and tasted almost like watered down, slightly sweetened alcohol. Blegh. I also tried a sip of the thundersmash and old fashioned, but didn’t drink enough to really have an opinion. Just a tip — if you are lucky enough to snag a table, you have to order from the waitresses and not at the bar. I bought my first round of drinks at the bar and sat at the table, and got called out(not in a rude way). Service was polite, but they were somewhat understaffed and it was hard to flag down our server amidst the sea of patrons. Overall, not a bad experience, but neither the drinks nor the venue were impressive enough for me to go back. Good 3 stars.
