Food was on par with all the other locations. The 5 star is more for the service. Dine here last night and my burger came out rare and the waiter had no issues putting in an order for a well done burger. I will be sure to ask for how it should be cooked at the time of order next time. There was no hesitation and the waiter was very accomodating. My issue was handled exactly how well run establishments should so thank you Umami Costa Mesa!

If I wasn’t in good company I wouldn’t have had a pleasant experience at all. It was near terrible service, with snarky attitudes, and our table was forgotten or at least ignored. Decent burger. Decent prices. Nightmare of a parking lot. Not a fan.

Food was good, as was the service, but the prices are joke! Won’t be back for that reason. A 15 dollar burger that doesn’t come with any sides should be huge and taste amazing. Unfortunately it was just good and I was still hungry when I left.

Umami is an upscale burger joint for those looking for that perfect burger. The Smushed Potatoes are nothing short of perfection. We’ve tried and tried to make those at home but they never quite match up to Umami’s. Every burger I’ve tried here has been phenomenal. Get ALL the sauces. They are all handmade there and add some next level flavors. Can’t wait to go again!

What’s not to like about being presented with hot, meaty, cheeseburger that you can smell coming a mile away?! My hubby’s been to a few other locations, and each & everytime all I hear is «blah blah blah«it’s so F, delicious. I finally agreed to go to taste one of his favorite cheeseburgers. We arrived around 9pm, on a Saturday and got seated emeditly. The interior is pretty cool. A lot of Japanese, themed spray painting walls. We ordered just 1 Truffle burger & onion rings. To be honest with you, he didn’t want a side until I read him my fellow Unilocaler’s, Greg F & Scott R, comments on the tempura battered onion rings. So shout out to them thanks guys!!! First the burger was everything my hubby has been trying to program into my brain for the past few years… the burger was delicious! Meaty, cheesy, and the truffle glaze was worth hearing him say«I told you so» but then he tried to get on to schooling me on the difference between glazed & fresh shaved truffles. I definitely put the brakes on that conversation ASAP… hee hee.. a wife can only take so much! ;) The absolutely amazing Tempura Onion Rings… Dear Lord, I can just come in to eat them. The batter is NOT greasy, and when you take a bite of it, the batter doesn’t fall off the onion. Perfect portion with the burger & it’s on my hit list for life. The interior is smaller but very fun vibe. The staff are outgoing and extremely friendly. The Ginger Beer went perfect with the meal . Parking is a little cramped so you may need to park in back in the Camp’s, parking lot. They do have a restroom, but it’s a duel gender. I get it… You’re limited in space but please have a employee go throughout the day and clean it. Thank you from ALLYOURFUTUREWOMENCUSTOMERS! :) I HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHEM!

Umami Burger was good, with the caramelize onions and roasted tomato, you’ll mostlikely order for another one. Because this one is a totally package, Umami Burger is a pure meaty burger, love it. You can also try their Truffle burger which I rank #2 on my burger list, plain delicious, nothing more nothing less.

5⁄10 Unilocal Challenge 2016 I ordered for pick up. I always worry about take out losing its lackluster by the time I get it home, but fortunately, I didn’t have far to travel to my boyfriend’s pad. I frequent the Umami by my work on Hollywood in L.A., and I’ve always had delicious burgers, beer and great service to boot. This O.C. Costa Mesa Umami did not disappoint. The food: Manly burger, Sunny Side, sweet potato fries and thin fries. MANLY: This burger is my ultimate favorite. A thick slab of juicy, amazingly flavored ground beef cooked medium rare(unless you specify otherwise), complete with what I call«beer cheese» which has this savory-crazy-good-sloppy-dribble-down-your-chin quality. Oh you thought I was done? There’s more! Crispy onion straws that provide the perfect crunch and… wait for it. Lardons. Thick cubed cuts of what is basically bacon. Lardons lardons lardons. Last night I counted lardons jumping over this burger into my mouth until I drifted off to dreamland, but not before my head hit that pillow of a brioche bun seared with Umami’s famous logo. So if you haven’t already noticed, this review is really entirely about the Manly Burger. Get it. You won’t be disappointed.

Simple, yet mouthwatering burgers with a wide selection of beers on tap. Perfect happy hour suggestions from our server that included beefy sliders that gave me a taste of all three if their most popular burgers. Server also explained all the options they brought out on their sauces to dip the burgers and cheesy truffle fries in. Would be a regular if it wasn’t an hour and a half drive, but we’ll be back next time we’re in town.

Came here with my friend for the first time. I got the K-BBQ and my friend got the Umami burger, and a half order of fries. The burgers were good but it was smaller than expected and it is way too overpriced. I don’t think I would come back for the $ 12 – 13 burger, I’ll just stick to In N Out. Our server was really nice and attentive though.

If your into that overly oily, overly priced burger than I guess this is your spot. Food: Hubby got the«Manly Burger,» w/hatch chilies($ 15) & I got the«Truffle Burger,» w/avocado($ 14) + order of sweet fries($ 5) & regular fries($ 4). The burgers were wayyyy too oily and just bland tasting. The meat wasn’t especially good, the sauces weren’t that good. Nothing special whatsoever! I think the sweet fries had cinnamon on top so it tasted weird to me. I really don’t understand what the hype is about this place at all! Service: I can’t complain about the service, the waiter was very nice and attentive. The food came out quick, even though they were packed. All the workers were really nice. Overall I would say you could totally skip this place and save yourself from eating overly oily, boring food + save some money! lol

Stopped by after working a food show near by. Glad I gave it a try, but not yummy enough for me to dream about coming back. It was good, but not great. Truffle Fries were good too.

Umami Burger! I think Umami burger is one of the first places that I remember that started the trend of expensive burgers. Since then, LA has exploded with tons of awesome burger places, but Umami is always the one that I look to as one of the original trendsetters. I was craving a good burger on Friday night and since I was in the area, I decided to try this location located near«The Camp» in Costa Mesa. If you have never been to this area, «The Camp» has a few nice restaurants, but the parking is AWFULLLLLL! Like, SOOOO bad, it actually deters me from going. Why is the lot SOOO small for the amount of restaurants that they have? There are a few spots in front of Umami burger, but good luck getting them because I hardly ever see them open. I decided to tough it out on Friday night since the alternative would have been going to the Umami Burger at the Anaheim Packing House, which is a worse alternative because the parking there is worse than here. Since there were no spots in front of Umami burger(no surprise), I had to go to the lot that is shared by the other«The Camp» locations. I stalked someone coming out of a restaurant and was able to successfully find a parking space 20 minutes after searching. BLEH. However, one thing that did make me cheery was there was no wait for a Friday night. The restaurant itself is a little cramped. So, you are literally sitting on the lap of the next table over. But, who cares? The food here is delicious. I decided to go for the Umami burger and truffle fries. They provide you with a few sauces to dip your fries and burger. The food and fries came out relatively quickly. I like the food here because everything tastes fresh and gourmet. You KNOW that you are paying for the quality with the first bite of the burger. The truffle fries is also to die for with the truffle being amazing and not overwhelming like other places. The service is also good, our waiter made sure to bring us extra sauce and ask about drink refills. I will definitely come here again for the burgers, but I will have to fight with myself to see if I want to stalk some poor person for a parking spot. LOL. So, overall, come here for the food! But, be forewarned about the parking.

We got the manly and sunny side burger. Pickled veggies and truffle fries on the side. The hubby got an amber ale beer. We dig the atmosphere and concept. We like sauces come out with the Japanese dishes. The logo is different. The bill was $ 50, which was a bit overpriced. The portions were a little big. I like the details in the burgers, esp the parmesean frito in the sunny side. 4.5 stars

Umami is one of my guilty pleasures. I like coming here to pick up that delicious Truffle Burger and those amazing onion rings whenever I’m at The Camp. Because this location is pretty small and gets quite crowded, I usually order the food ahead of time and pick it up to-go. Burgers are cooked kind of rare here, so make sure to order them medium plus if you’re not a fan of the uncooked burger. I love the truffle cheese on that juicy burger. The flavor is so good it’s almost addictive. I like the onion rings here too. Those slightly crispy onion rings with Umami’s ketchup, and I’m in heaven. Whether I eat here or order the food to-go, the staff is usually friendly. The other day I called before they were even open, and the super helpful employee(the manager perhaps?) made sure my order was ready right when I got there. For great burgers and really good service, this will remain one of my favorite places for a quick, delicious burger!

Umami Burger — substituted the turkey patty. Tasty! Not an enormous burger but definitely enough to fill me up along with the fries as a side. The fried parmesan is probably my favorite topping: crispy criss-crossed crunchies that are packed with flavor! But the actual BBQ sauce part was also tasty. I ordered it medium rare and it came maybe a little more well done than I would have expected for medium rare but hey — it’s a turkey burger. Not a steak, so I’m not going to complain. The bun was nothing special. Also it would be nice if they toasted it so it didn’t get so soaked from the meat/sauces, etc. However, I’m actually not that opposed to soggy bread so I secretly sort of didn’t mind that part — although I do appreciate a yummy bread. If not for the bun this would’ve gotten a perfect score! 4⁄5 Truffle Fries — Excellent! These came not with the typical shaved truffle and some cheese dusted on top. This was a melty, smooth, truffley sauce that was poured over the thin, crispy fries. I never thought I would pay $ 6 for a side of fries — but this was more than worth it. It came in a little cardboard take-out box. However, the regular side of fries without the truffle is the same size and comes in that same portion. You’re paying that extra money for the delectable truffle white melted cheese. 5⁄5 I ordered this through Doordash on a Friday night when I had to work from home. Needed something comforting and filling and this really hit the spot. I ate it while watching some old school Halloween movies so I didn’t feel so sad about missing out on the festivities at my apt complex. Yes it was more expensive than your typical burger joint — but it has that gastropub flare so I will definitely be ordering again when I’m stuck at home but want to treat myself just a leetle.

This is my favorite gourmet burger spot around. From the Hollywood location, to the Anaheim, and Costa Mesa spots, I love them all. Come here hungry and with a willingness to try everything on the menu. Don’t let the hipsterish image fool you. These guys really know their burgers. On one particular visit, I shall review the Manly Burger. My first bite introduced me to a world of flavor. The crunchiness of the onion strings complemented the creamy juiciness of the melted cheddar cheese and buttery all beef patty, perfectly cooked to a pink medium rare. The thick slices of bacon added a smokey, yet non-overpowering saltiness to the Umami Burger experience. Still my number one.

A different take on a classic American dish. The burgers at Umami are served medium rare which really unlocked the flavor of the meat. I got the Umami burger which was delicious. I love the buns here. Buns are such a simple thing but it’s the different between a good burger and a great burger. The truffle fries are a must, they’re downright delicious and they come with several different dipping sauces which is fun to try. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s a good burger and a good experience dining here all together. My waiter was super nice and helpful, I was actually shocked how good the service is. The ambience is on point as well, the whole place is designed very modern with cool paintings lining the walls. Give Umami a try if you’re sick of the typical burger joints.

I’ve been to other Umami burger locations in the past, so I expected this one to be consistently the same good burgers that I’m used to getting at Umami. Unfortunately, it clearly wasn’t. The waiter asked if I wanted my burger medium rare, so I said sure, as I usually get my burger cooked that way. However, when it arrived, the meat was more rare than RARE! I showed it to them, and they agreed and offered to make me a new one with the meat cooked«medium». When they brought me the new one, the meat was exactly the same — just as rare as the first one(see photo). The meat had not been cooked at all. The waiter apologized and said the cook was new and that they wouldn’t charge me for the burger. The waiter and owner were VERY nice, and therefore I’m giving this review 2 stars instead of 1, but I would never go back there again.

Shout out to Carlos — great server! Funny and super chill! 1. They bring out four dipping sauces with every burger order … And omg their ketchup(umami ketchup) is the best ketchup I’ve ever tasted in my life! And I am a ketchup queen! I love my ketchup but this ketchup has a unique flare to it!!! Yum ! I just wanted to dip everything in it! 2. The pickled vegetable plate comes with four different vegetables. My personal favorite was the chipotle carrots and beats. The soy sauce based vegetable and the pickles were too salty for me personally. 3. The sunshine burger — 6⁄10 because the portion is small! But the overall the meat is cooked medium rare as asked… The egg enhances the flavor… HOWEVERITISWAYTOOOILY! Overall I would give the 3 stars based on food but the service is on point = 4 stars!

$ 100 lunch for my family. Eeyikes! Four burgers, a salad, two fries and two lemonades. Are you kidding me? Yes, the burgers were delicious. Yes the truffle fries were out of this world. But worth the price of the ticket? Me thinks not. For that price I’d need to be blown away. As in I should be stuffed to the gills. And I’d not be wanting another burger. But I went home with plenty-o-room to spare in my belly. Might even stop by In-N-Out on the way home. No more Umami for me.
