We have friends training for a three-day walk, so we did a 6-mile route with them from downtown Martinez to Port Costa. It took us about two hours, at a fairly quick pace. A big chunk of the walk was spent on this trail, which is very nice and has great views of the Carquinez Strait. You can also drive up and park closer to the start of the actual trail, on either the Martinez or Port Costa side. I really like that this portion of the trail is only open to pedestrians and cyclists. There are some hills so it is a great workout for sure. There is a port-o-potty at the gate on the Port Costa side. When you reach Reservoir St., make a right and follow the road down to the old school house. There, you’ll find a sign that will point you right towards the Port Costa«Business District.» Only ¼ mile down the road, you will find the Warehouse Café(bloody marys!), Bull Valley Roadhouse(brunch!), etc. We had others join us to partake in drinks and brunch and then drive our tired butts back home.

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Martinez, CA
This trail cost $ 5.2 mil. and took about 20 years from start to finish. It’s now part of the East Bay Parks. It follows the coastline from Martinez to Crockett. The new part of the road is super smooth and even great for roller skating as well as biking/running. There are some rough sections of pavement on either ends of the trail. You can really get away from people out on this trail. The whole time I was there on Sunday afternoon i didn’t see a single person or vehicle. Shame it’s not being used more, but great for me. I was riding my road bike and able to go very fast along this road, since the curves are very well arced and not tight at all. The views of the bay are amazing. You could use this route as a way to get between the two bridges that both have a bike path and make a nice round trip two-bridge tour. Since you can drive to the beginning/end of this trail, it’s also great for a shorter ride with the kids. There are some picnic benches at a scenic point along the trail and porta-poties along the way. Overall, this trail is fairly flat and shouldn’t discourage younger or inexperienced riders.
