Quit supporting all the stupid froyo fad shops and get some real man’s ice cream. While this is not my favorite ice cream(I’m talking to you Sweet Claudes), it is a very good contender. It’s definitely a spoon bender. It can be occasionally inconsistent, but overall it is excellent.

Still nothing to like here. $ 3 for soft serve here, or the same quality across the street for a buck. At least across the street they can spell their twitter handle…

I can’t wait until I am back in Connecticut again so I can stop at Mortensen’s! The Cromwell location is seasonal and just serves ice cream, but they also have another location on the Berlin Turnpike that is a year-round, sit-down restaurant that serves a full menu. My all time favorite flavor is graham central station, which is a graham cracker flavored ice cream and these delicious chocolate covered candy pieces. It’s even better if you add warm marshmallow sauce to this ice cream flavor. You can also get a s’mores sundae that consists of the graham central station ice cream, warm marshmallow sauce, and hot fudge, it’s amazing! There is nowhere to sit inside at this location, you just walk up to the window to order and then they have a couple of benches in the front to sit on or there are a few picnic tables around the backside of the shop to sit and enjoy your ice cream. It’s a great way to enjoy a beautiful CT summer evening.

ok it is almost winter i know i know. after a nice spicy meal down the road at mmumbai spice we passed by mortensens and i thought it would be a great way to cool the palate so we stopped in on this brisk autumn eve. i had their ‘fresh squeezed” orange sherbert. it was the worst sherbert i have ever had — chunky and icey and tasted like freezer burn. we also ordered a lemon sorbet and it was OK. we both had the same size and one was ½ full and it was definitely the bottom of the bucket scrapings. disappointed they dont say«sorry we dont have enough» or warn you that it will suck. probably the last time i stop here.

This place is really hit-or-miss. My husband and I went one time and got a great sundae served by a knowledgeable and friendly server. The last time we went, we were rushed to order, our sundae was horribly made, and it seemed like we were imposing on the server’s social time with her friends. I would rather drive to Newington to eat at the original restaurant. At least their sundaes are better.

This is the very best Ice Cream Shoppe I have ever been to, Mortensen’s is a definite MUST, they make their own Ice Cream and it’s seriously delicious! I grew up around farmer’s cow fields and have been fortunate to subjected to many dairy farmers in New England, Mortensen’s is well worth the trip, there is much going on in the area surrounding this wonderful establishment. Other than this one«other» place which is a farm in the middle of back roads of the town of Enfield, CT known as the Collin’s Creamery, they also make their own Ice Cream & I’d have to say it’s a tie breaker, Mortensen’s is of the best and I’d have to say it’s a tie breaker of equal quality and flavor options for Hard Ice Cream’s!

Tried the pumpkin icecream– lots of nutmeg. Yum! Huge scoops! A little pricy but worth it. So many flavors and toppings! There are a few benches under trees to sit at.

Delicious ice cream. Had the blueberry and the banana; both were great! Will have to try the soft-serve sometime for sure.

I really enjoy vanilla soft serve ice cream and I try to get it here as often as I can. Its extremely creamy and amazing, not to mention a great bang for your buck. Its just a take out window, whereas their Berlin Turnpike location is a full restaurant. You can’t beat the convenience of this location though!

Mortensen’s = summer With 3 little kids and 2 adults that love ice cream, my family is putting the whole Mortensen family and their heirs through college. Strawberry milkshakes are great on a hot day! Soft serve on a waffle cone with rainbow sprinkles! Cookie dough with peanut butter sauce sundae! The kids that serve there are always really friendly — refreshing change from a lot of retail and restaurants these days. And we never wait for more than a couple minutes — always well staffed. Mortensen’s is cool!
