Great food, huge portions, low prices. What more could you want? Oh yes, and the staff are extremely kind. I believe it’s a family run operation.

This restaurant is awesome. The food is always fresh. My favorite dish is the bbq chicken, rice and peas and mixed salad. The oxtail is very food for all my caribbean folks!
The customer service is great. The overall experience is the best. Also, I use the catering service for any of my parties. The prices are reasonable & the food is great.
I highly recommended Basic Needs to anyone looking for a good meal.

Went in on a quiet day and got the jerk chicken over rice with plantains and salad.
Wow.
It’s so well spiced, the flavor profile is bold with every bite. The owner poured some of the jerk chicken sauce over the entire platter enhancing the deliciousness of the whole dish.
Definitely stop by, it’s worth it!

I grab lunch here everyday and the Jerk chicken is Authentic as is the six tail and everything else.

Very good food for a good price.
This is mainly a takeout place, though it would be fine to sit and enjoy your meal here. There are a lot of precooked items, but they are still very good. The other night I got a Half Jerk Chicken. It was a huge amount of meat, two meals for me, and the meat was hot, tender, melt in your mouth Jerk Chicken, spicy but not over the top. It was so good hot and I enjoyed it cold too the next day too.
My SO gets a chicken stew plate with rice and beans and plantains. That is also very tender and tasty. It is a lot of food, but still good quality food, for not much money. The place is as clean as a whistle. They seem to have cordials so you could sit and sip something while you eat. I just get takeout.
If they delivered they would be so popular, but I think most people have not discovered this new gem of takeout in Crown Heights.
