Let me preface my «meh» review with this statement: I love Hobby Lobby. I do. I love the variety, the weekly coupon, the holiday items that they have WAY before anyone else(I know this annoys folks, but I surely adore it!). I’m generally happy when I go to a Hobby Lobby. But goodness, this location? Horrible. I’m not sure what it is about the staff, if they are overworked/underpaid/perpetually crabby or what the dealio is. Every darn time I go in there, whether to buy or occasionally return, I get a hassle of some sort. They don’t like my printed coupon, what I have isn’t on sale(I actually came back with the flyer to PROVE to a cashier that an item was on sale once, needless to say she was not at all pleased… no apology given, curt attitude) and returns? Oh, even if you have your darn receipt, even if they see their Hobby Lobby tag ON the item? They can refuse to return it. This stunned me. See, if they discontinue the item, even if you bought the said item last week? They can refuse the return. Won’t even give you a paltry store credit. And they don’t care. I’ve complained to the management, they give you the stock response, but they don’t help you. I’ve even written to upper management… they back their staff, 100%. Customer is NOT king here. I agree with a p/p, Schaumburg is a friendlier location and I’m hoping that the Algonquin store(opening this fall) will be even better. Cause I do love Hobby Lobby… even with the cranky-pants that work there…

Unfortunately, the manager on Friday night was rude, and not helpful) might be because the store was closing. He would not look for the missing piece to an item I purchased(had receipt) or return it. I had a receipt, but he said without the tag he didn’t recognize the item, and could not help. He said he never saw the item ever, so it must not have been their’s. They lost my business-Schaumburg will get it from now on. Too bad because they are closer but customer service is important these days, and it seemed as though he didn’t care, and doubted I purchased it there. Result: I went to the Schaumburg store and they said they can order the missing piece, or return the item. The manager quickly found the replacement piece and I spent an additional $ 175. Tahnmk you Schaumburg store.

Hobby Lobby is great — there’s nobody else that quite fills the niche they do. Their framing prices and services can’t be beat, and they are very well stocked in terms of variety. My only complaints would be the checkout people are very polite but slow. Very slow. Like they have all the time in the world. Hint: If it’s not on sale, wait. They have 50% off sales on just about everything. Check out the newspaper or their website for their current sales.

It’s tough going in here as a straight man. You’re up against every bored suburban housewife and interior decorator in the area. And for good reason. This place has a lot of stuff when it comes to crafts and hobbies. This is their world, and I am just visiting. There is custom framing, smaller furniture items, pictures frames, every sort of decoration, holiday-themed and otherwise. This is a great place to go to find the lil woman a gift. Also I like the models, model rockets, and model trains. NOTE: Not open on Sundays due to jesus, at least that’s what the sign says.
