Update Today the Inn called me back and they are open. There was a miscommunication with my phone numbers and email address which is the reason for their non communication. Their explanation is appreciated and we’ll review the accomodations after we actually stay there.

The Missus and I were in Cumberland for a little bit of a 2 day trip to enjoy the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad between Cumberland and Frostburg. I saw all the five star reviews and gushing comments and I thought this would be a great place to stay. To be honest, I’ve stayed in a lot of B&Bs and I think I’m ready for a little more of the hotel experience. I saw a marketing description of the Cumberland Inn and Spa as being a step up from a B&B but not quite the chain hotel experience. I guess I misunderstood what that meant. This is definitely more of a B&B without the breakfast. It’s a nice enough place. Very conveniently located to downtown Cumberland. the staff is super friendly and helpful. The room we had was nice. It was big and there were a few hooks to hang stuff up. To be honest, though, I would have hoped for a bit more. The description of the room we were in mentioned a «private» bath«out in the hall». I thought this might mean there was a bath right outside the bedroom door. It wasn’t. It was down the hall between rooms and next to the common lounge area. It was«private» inasmuch as we had a key to get in and out. So, picture this: 3am. You need to go to the bathroom and you need to remember to grab the key and a robe or something and walk down a fairly long hallway in the bright light, get the key in the lock, open the door and then, after you’re done, walk back down to the room. By that time, I’m fully awake. I suppose it’s my fault for not figuring out«bath in the hall» meant what it did. The mattress was kind soft. Sorta like a futon mattress. I big hump in the middle and slopes down the sides. We also had the first floor with windows that looked out onto the sidewalk with all the passing foot traffic and car traffic. Again, all this came about because I really didn’t investigate it as much as I should have and I didn’t know the area enough to know that a «chain» hotel was close by. I want to emphasize that the staff is really friendly and it is conveniently located. If you’re looking for a B&B type experience(no breakfast, remember), this is the place. Nice common lounge area. Wi-fi. TV. All good. Just not what I would have wanted if I had gotten past all the five star reviews.

I’m a huge fan of Inns. My sister in-laws and I took our annual girls weekend trip this past week and stayed at the Cumberland Inn and Spa. From the time we arrived we were welcomed. Jacque was sooooooo inviting and extremely helpful. She made recommendation to us for places to eat. We were not disappointed. The Inn itself was immaculate and very nicely decorated. While the inn has a historic feel to it it is very modern and updated. The inn’s rates are very reasonable. I’ve spent more other places and have gotten less. This is money well spent. If you are looking to get away and have a nice quiet and relaxing time this is the place to come. Thank you again Cumberland Inn and Spa(Jacque) The Uncrackable’s
