My favorite Sushi place for 26 years! The same sushi chef in all that time — same quality and efficient service, lunch or dinner. It is not fancy but pretty authentic. Has a tatami room that seems to be booked all the time. Never disappointed.

I’ve been to Japan many times on business trips from the north to the south. All over the US there many sushi places but this one is that one of the highest on my list comparable to those in Japan. This place is not set up for large parties. you want great sushi and sashimi this is the place to go.

This was literally the best sushi I have ever had ! Quality portions of fish and an option of rolls without rice that does not have a price tag like sashimi ! Very friendly atmosphere and they really know how to make you feel special ! Will return on every trip to LA

Real Japanese environment. Pretty much everyone around me speaking Japanese which tells me am in the right place for this kind of food. Food so colorful and amazing taste. Second time visiting Cupertino an first time(2 days in a row) eating at this place. Definitely worth to come back.

Don’t think I’m coming back here. Me and my family were standing waiting for someone to seat us for 5 minutes until we asked the waitress for a table but they were too busy and scrambling to even answer. Waited another 5 minutes to seat ourselves, but promptly were told to get up because it was reserved. They made it apparent they didn’t want our business, so we left.

I really enjoy coming here. It’s one of the most authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. They also have many exotic specials I’ve never seen at other restaurants. I usually order their dinner entrees with some nigiri/sashimi. Their salmon teriyaki is a little dry so try their beef or chicken teriyaki instead. What surprises me the most is the nigiri and sashimi they serve. I normally can’t stand my sashimi having«fishy sea» scent but I love the sashimi they serve here. It does have little hints of that«fishy» scent but it feels like it’s suppose to be there and it just tastes right. I feel like I now know what sashimi is suppose to taste like. You should try it yourself to see what I mean!

Three Star rationale: 1. 1 star because the ambiance at Sushi Kuni is nice. 2. Another star because the staffer was helpful and tried to be accommodating. 3. A 3rd star because there were some thoughtful vegan & vegetarian offerings on menu Sushi Kuni is a decent place for vegans & vegetarians to stop for lunch in Cupertino. They have a lunch special that includes ‘Futo Maki’(vegetarian california roll) and a ½ dozen Inari. All are delicious. One criticism: Sushi Kuni does not have any spicy hot sauce on-hand. I love to use Sriracha instead of wasabi with my sushi and usually ask for a bit on the side. They must not use it in their own recipes. I suggest you bring a small small bottle of your own spices if you like that type of thing, Otherwise, All good!

This place might not have the most amazing sushi/sashimi in the Bay Area but it is one of my favorite sushi restaurants regardless. Seating is limited, and there isn’t much room in the establishment, but for some reason I really enjoy the atmosphere despite being somewhat averse to tight spaces. The fish is fresh, the food is relatively well priced, and the service is good. This place is my go to restaurant if I want some consistent/down to earth Japanese food. You will not be disappointed.

wow … i was recommended to this place by my Japanese professor and this place is now among my favorite sushi places in the Bay Area… and trust me I have lived in Japan before and went to a lot of michelun starred sushi places which cost $$$$$$ including the famous jiro honten in ginza and much more … but you cant compare sushi kuni to those places. diffrrent leagues, different kind of fish and also different price level a good comparison would be sushi tomi in mountain view… the. price here is more wallet friendly compared to sushi tomi and I think you get decent amount of neta(fish) plus they are of decent quality! of course i wouldnt compare this to kusakabe or maruya or sakae because you cant exoect the same quality of sushi here when the price is a fraction of those michelin starred establishments but hey for $ 20 sushi nigiri set I was super happy… the rice was not that good still on par with sushi tomi in Mountain View.(but cheaper) i got the special nigiri set 上にぎり $ 20 and ordered tamagoyaki $ 4 and tako $ 4 each came im two pieces :) tako was not that good but tamagoyaki was great :) people seem to hv issue with the service but i was there monday 7pm and the place was 75% full… the service was fast … there were two waitressed and two sushi chefs so maybe they have improved? the chefs and the waitresses were super attentive and kept asking me if i needed anything else i am planning to go here maybe once a week(i love sushi amd crave sushi a lot) to hv good sushi without breaking my wallet :) also will need to come back to try their cold chawanmushi(uni and ikura) … they didnt have it today :(also will save some room for their matcha cream brulee next time

My favorite Japanese restaurant so far in my experience. My usual place, once or twice a week. I have been consuming Sashimi Deluxe dish and other unique dishes here for more than 6 years and counting, still enjoying the quality of the food and people. They are small, a family size restaurant but fun and great food. This is the place for people whom are not in a hurry, enjoy a slow pace of experiencing your sashimi, sushi, Sake(by yourself or share with your neighbors :)), talk, laugh, etc. You will need to be patience here, the service is not fast-fast. If you feel like a «New York Minute» moment, this place might not be for you. Price in general for Japanese restaurant is quite medium-high, this place also similar but compare to others I experience, this place has a better quality of food and I am wiling to spend on it. Highly recommended.

This place was a let down for me. We got there around 6:30pm on a Wednesday night. There weren’t any empty tables, but we were just flat out ignored and left at the door for 10 minutes before someone came to greet us. And it’s not like they didn’t see us, either. They walked back and forth in front of us serving different tables and clearly saw us but didn’t say anything. I guess cause there were no empty tables but come on… at least acknowledge that we’re there. I wasn’t particularly hungry at the time, so I just wanted to order a couple of small sushi plates. It took forever to get someone to take our order. When someone finally came, I asked if they had monkfish liver… they said no(this wasn’t on their menu, though, but I thought I would ask anyway). I then tried to order the toro… but apparently they didn’t have that either. I finally just decided to go with the tuna and the scallops, and a small bowl of salad. The tuna was alright, fresh but nothing special. The scallops did not taste fresh. They had a strange after taste. After waiting such a long time for our food, I was not impressed. The sushi here is OK at best, but the service here could use a lot of improvement.

Our tip: NEVER and I mean NEVER, order off the menu here. You’ll be disappointed — unless you want some Americanized Japanese rolls(never tried any here, so can’t review those) Order instead off the two boards next to the counter — the daily specials are great. Recos: Go traditional Japanese and try the sashimi, the tamago, nasu agedashi(deepfried eggplant), hamachi collar. Ask the friendly Plum(the server here) for any recommendations. We usually go with whatever she recommends and haven’t been let down yet. Save some room for the Green Tea crème brûlée!

Nice traditional Japanese Sushi place. The best thing is they really focus on the rice of the nigiri! Normally, nigiris in Bay Area are just the thing with the fish on the top. Sushi Kuni really makes the tight rice ball which could be the soul of the nigiri. Yet, the seasoning of the rice could be better. Green tea ice cream are wonderful! Uni is sweet but pricy. Kinds of like the one called Akane in Los Altos. Both are traditional, high qualities with fish but pricy. The price in Sushi Kuni is more reasonable comparing with Akane, and the service is definitely better. Worth for 4 stars.

Just like a number of ladies I know, my experience was good. Just like a number of ladies I know, my experience was bad. First visit was nice and hot, second visit was rushed and cold. I do have a lot of tolerance and try to block out bad things in my life and focus on the good, so four stars it is. You’ll have to look past the slow service, so just sit back, relax, and savor the authentic Japanese style sushi… and don’t embarrass yourself by ordering a monster roll or something with cream cheese. This place is legit, just have to put up with the service that can be slow at times.

Japanese owned :) This is my uncles favorite Japanese restaurant, he said he’s been going to this location for 30 years… wow! Talk about a loyal paton. Maybe my experience was based about on the fact that my uncle knew exactly what to order and since he is a regular, we got stellar service. To start out we had: Mixed Sashimi plate — everything was fresh and delicious Ceviche — I LOVED this unique dish with a japanese twist. It was amazing! Instead of tortilla chips, it came with rice cracker/cake. This is a must try dish. Skewer with japanese meatballs is also a dish that melted in my mouth. I ordered a combo dinner with chicken teriyaki and tempura. Everything was excellent. Bonus was dessert. They had an amazing dessert selection. I had a taste of their homemade pear ice cream and their green tea tiramisu was to die for.
