Saw this place on my way to Grand Isle and got carry-out. Ordered a fried oyster po boy. No complaints. Overall a good sandwich that hit the spot.

I ate here once before tonight many years ago & apparently I forgot my experience. Apps Eggplant Fries = Tasteless(waitress had no comment when I told her this) 2 shrimp stuffed pistolettes(better @ B&E) Cup of shrimp okra gumbo(tasteless $ 4.50 app) We both ordered ribeyes medium rare. Now I know this isnt a steakhouse BUT if you are going to put it on the menu, then you should be able to cook it properly. By properly I mean a steak is meant to be seared so as to seal in the flavor & cook the fat. They were cooked medium rare, I will give them that. But without a good sear, the fat was mostly raw. And there was ALOT of it. My wife’s steak was spoiled. She had eaten one bite & asked me to taste it to make sure & I spit my bite out. She had to go to the counter with her plate since the waitress never came back to check on us after we got our entrees. AGAIN the waitress had NOTHING to say. Not a Im sorry or Ill take this off your bill. NOTHING. A good 5 – 8 mins later she came ask if she wanted anything else. Of course she didnt because she had completely lost her appetite. Mine was ok, I ate what I could since half of it was fat & the flavor wasnt too pleasing by the way it was prepared. We absolutely will never go back. Service sucks Food sucks And even after taking off 1 steak from the bill, we still paid $ 48 !! I told her the eggplant fries werent good yet we apparently paid for those. One good thing, the bathroom is very clean. Also, while paying the bill, we saw some guy eating in the kitchen. Guess I shouldnt have been surprised since when we walked in there were 2 waitresses eating right next to the counter & didnt even aknowledge me when I went in to take a look at the menu. Should have been a red flag of things to come. Lesson learned

Ate here tonight. It’s really sad and makes me a little angry, when a restaurant that is literally on the bayou serves frozen seafood! I had the large seafood platter, the fried shrimp were edible but no way they were fresh, the oysters had a good flavor but again the breeding seemed like something from a frozen and pre-packaged product, the shrimp«patties» we’re fairly tasty but the stuffed crab was a big, breaded ball of crab and I’m not sure what else. It tasted freezer burnt and was inedible. The fried fish was very long and thin strips and had the consistency of fish jerky. It reminded me of something you’d get at Long John Silvers for $ 3.99. The French fries were decent and I had the red velvet cake which was decent also but again didn’t seem to be home made. Lastly the gumbo, very thin roux, little seasoning and even less taste. My meal cost $ 28.00 and it was no where near worth that! If you have other places to eat I’d suggest you go there instead of here.

Mommies Jo’s, what happened to you!!! Our office ordered lunch today and it was so disappointing. The lunch was shrimp and angel hair pasta, garlic bread, salad and bouille(pudding). Although the containers were never tipped over in the car, the bouille was spilled over in the pasta… inside all three containers. The pasta was flavorless and the red velvet cake tastes like… nothing and looked like a dish sponge. Terrible! The corn nuggets were good and the house dressing is always good. Very disappointing since I’ve loved this place growing up.

Small sea food platter was great and just the right size. Place was busy at 5:30 a good sign. I will be back.

I had dinner here the other night, not too overly impressed. The gumbo was a bit watery, and when I asked the server if it was possible to get all thighs with my 2 piece chicken dinner, was told that this wasn’t possible. She was confused about which parts of the chicken are«dark meat“‘ and which parts are«white meat». In all it wasn’t a bad meal, but I probably wouldn’t return.

This place is off the chain!!! The fried seafood is second to none and you gotta have the cake and bouille. Don’t ask what cake and bouille is, just eat it and it will be love at first bite! The staff at Mommie Jo’s are friendly and the food is great! I go there every time I am in the area.

We choose Mommie Jo’s on the way back from a crabbing trip in Grand Isle. There is little else in the area and, relative to the other options, Mommie Jo’s sounded like a winner. Overall, The foods was pretty good, but I expect more from a seafood place on the bayou. We started with fried crab claws, a must-order for me whenever available. They were a little different than I am used to. They were fried in a breading rather than a batter and the breading was on the think side. The claws were big and full of meat and the batter went well with them. The crab claws were the best part of the meal. I was not impressed with the shrimp platter; the shrimp fry/batter was very thin and uneventful. Though they were a good size, they were excessively butterflied, nearly halved. They left the tail on the shrimp, and I guess some people appreciate that, but I am not one of the them. You loose half the shrimp in the process and the part you do manage to get out of the shell has no batter and no seasoning. They were fresh though and their innate flavor was enough to keep me happy overall Their tartar and cocktail sauce comes in little plastic to-go style packets; a bit strange for a sit-down restaurant with a heavy seafood menu, The crawfish and corn bisque was watery and flavorless. It was topped with shredded Cheddar, which was strange.
