Food is terrible. We witnessed a lady that worked there pick up Lo-Mein off the counter and throw it back in the dish with her bare hands and when we confronted her about it she took it to the kitchen and then brought the same food back out. A little while later she added more to it — a fresh batch for the dinner rush. The meat is chewy and you can tell it sits under the heat lamps until it gets eaten. We have been here a few times and in hopes it will get better and it remains consistent — TERRIBLE.

It’s edible, but not amazing. Wished the TV’s had not all been blaring Telemundo. I do realize this is a predominantly Hispanic area, but it was so loud we could hardly hear each other at our table. The buffet is not that big, but everything I had was alright. Some fried options seemed dry/hard, like they had been under a heat lamp too long, not great for the 7pm time we were there, I can imagine how it would be mid-afternoon or right before close, ick.

This was one of those bad decision nights because I had a long day at work and really didn’t want to cook, and I let hubby order dinner for us. King Chef had put a menu on our doorknob sometime last week and while we have an «old reliable» chinese place we normally order from, we lost our minds and ordered from them. The attraction was their«combination plate special» it’s two entrée items, a side(steamed rice, fried rice or lo mein) and an egg roll. It seemed like a great deal at $ 5.99. I got orange chicken + sesame chicken with lo mein, hubby got orange chicken + sweet/sour chicken with fried rice. Here’s the breakdown… Orange Chicken — so spicy hubby couldn’t eat it, I like spicy food but once you got past the heat there was really no flavor at all. Sesame Chicken — Probably the only good thing in our whole meal, although the chicken was likely grade C. Sweet/Sour Chicken — Low grade chicken that was battered and fried and tasted mostly like grease, the sweet/sour sauce was watery which was gross. Lo Mein — They put huge chunks of onion in it which made the lo mein so greasy it was inedible, and it had huge chunks of carrot and something else. Basically, it wasn’t lo mein, it was greasy pasta with a side salad. Fried Rice — We specifically asked them if this had onions because hubby can’t eat them. It had onions, and peas, and carrots, and even when I tried a bite it was just too greasy! Blech. Neither of us ate even half of our food, but it was very generous portions which makes sense if they boxed it up out of their buffet line. Writing this with a tummy ache though is making me less than generous, so 2 stars and I won’t be going back.

Why don’t folks come to far East Dallas to patronize our eateries? We come from our side of town. My friends and I went into Kings Chef around 12:30 for lunch. We were one of two tables for a well filled, well seasoned, hot, appealing, wide variety of good food. Lunch Monday– Friday is 5.99 for Pete sakes. Soups, many many entrees, rice and noodles, deserts galore. It’s clean. The folks are friendly and attentive. I couldn’t understand the lack of business unless it’s because they are located next to the plasma center which sometimes attracts some«down on their luck» looking dudes. So what. They aren’t doing the cooking. There is security over there and lots of other businesses around. I give them a 4 star for value, quality, quantity, and service. Come give the place a try. A good inexpensive lunch. Slightly higher at dinner and weekends.
