Sad to hear that LaGrange is closing it’s doors. It was a really nice venue for small bands, with quick and friendly bar staff, a good happy hour, and a delightful back patio complete with the standard array of tables and chairs as well as two huge wooden rocking chairs and an oriental rug that made you feel like a queen to sit on. Hopefully whoever takes over the venue will continue this location’s tradition of keeping central Deep Ellum a place for music-lovers to go to see cheap small acts while enjoying alcoholic beverages.

Went to LaGrange the other night to celebrate my getting a job after 2 months of searching(fuck getting a degree in Psychology — it ain’t worth shit!!!). It also happened to be on a night that we were considering going to see Teenage Bottlerocket(pop punk at it’s finest). We decided not to buy tickets, which would turn out to be a mistake considering how awesome they looked and sounded from the sidewalk outside of the club. Luckily, we could catch a pretty decent view of the show from the sidewalk. The venue seems cool about this kind of thing, maybe they know that the view from the sidewalk really makes you want to get in the mix. We got tipsy from the small side bar, featuring the gorgeous blonde bombshell bartender. The wells were $ 4 but the atmosphere was worth it. I don’t know if it was because of the punk show next door, but the music playing was really fucking good: Rancid, Op Ivy, Ramones, etc. I would and will go back every time we go drinking in Deep Ellum… so once or twice a week? Ha.

I helped to host an event at LaGrange. They were helpful getting everything set up, up until the day of the event. We had requested to come in earlier to have a mini rehearsal run-through, and no one there really knew how to work the equipment. They just told us that«someone will be here tonight.» Good thing we showed up an hour earlier than when our event started because the staff there just kept telling us that«there’s a guy who knows how to do that but he’s not here.» We had some bumps here and there transitioning between videos etc, but overall it went really smoothly. They have awesome equipment if you know how to use it! I think they were short staffed at the bar for a while. They had one bartender for the first 2 hours. It wasn’t a huge problem but the large party was overall a little anxious and antsy. They catered mini tacos and chips/dip for us. The chicken was good. The rest did not make a huge impression on me.

My husband and I rented LaGrange for out wedding and I have to say — wow! Stephanie and the staff just blew me away. She took care of the menu, coordinated set up, a sound guy, bartenders. We practically just had to show up. When the air condition had problems the day of the wedding, I was a bit worried(I mean who wouldn’t worry?) but the bars there in DE pitched in fans to help make sure the place cooled off in time for our guests. Everyone keeps saying just how much fun they had and how awesome the staff were. We decided on LaGrange for the wedding after seeing a few friends of ours play there and after having a few of the tacos(You should have seen my husband when he heard we could have wedding tacos. Seriously. It was like a kid at Christmas.), and I can’t help but recommend them any time someone is talking about having a private event. Even if it’s not an event, you should check them out. The atmosphere is fun, bands good, drinks tasty, and the staff are awesome.

I’m going on the record to tell say that you are dumb if you have not checked out LaGrange yet. Over the past couple of years I’ve spent two NYE’s here with the Boys Named Sue, brunched many times, sat out on the patio on nice afternoons, enjoyed the adult snow cones, have seen many a band here also! I was super excited to see that Rock and Roll Tacos have set up shop here! Go now, sillies. :)

I want to want to go to La Grange more than I do. They recently went through a remodel, making the restaurant side more welcoming. The tacos are still delicious and a great deal. But, I feel the joint can’t decide who they want to cater to. I’m a 30-something professional who lives in the neighborhood. For me, the music is usually obnoxiously loud«noise» music, even when the place is empty at 6pm. And if you are going to charge me $ 7 for a gin and soda, it better not come in a plastic dixie cup.

Had dinner over the weekend at LaGrange and this by far has been the worst food I have ever tasted. We ordered the buffalo, calamari and tilapia tacos and all could be labelled«flavourless tacos». You certainly don’t get what you pay for and speaking of paying watch out for the price changes in what you order. The signs listed the tacos as $ 3 or $ 4 but the waiter tried to charge us $ 5.50 each. After we ordered the price suddenly hiked and we had to speak to two managers to get the price that we saw at the time we ordered. Other than the food having no flavour, the tortillas were really cheap and will fall apart as soon as you pick them up but of course you do have to ask for forks. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Maybe it’s good for happy hour and having a drink but that’s about it. Makes the Jack ‘N the Box 2 for $ 1 taco seem like Mi Cocina. Go elsewhere.

After a couple of hours at a local gallery our group headed over to LaGrange for dinner, drinks and some chatting. I think dinner was a bust. It was pretty much mexican food, tacos, chips, etc. I got two tacos(it’s really ordered a la carte), one tilapia and one beef. I didn’t like either. To be fair, Mexican food is not my favorite but I don’t find it inedible that I cannot ever enjoy it. The tilapia was over cooked, rubbery with a indescribable crust on it served with a bunch of cabbage. The beef seemed like it would be the most basic, traditional taco but it was lacking something. I didn’t care for whatever seasoning they used on the beef at all. The tacos are cheap though at $ 2 to $ 3 a piece. Outside of that, the environment was just fine. They appear to have a restaurant side and bar side but they wanted a cover to enter the bar side so we went to the restaurant side. There weren’t many people at all at about 8pm. We ate outdoors, the seating was awkward where the chairs and table were about the same height. Walking through the bar side at the end of the meal it seemed like a completely different environment. I wouldn’t be opposed to going back to check that out more. I have a friend that is disappointed that I am rating this a two but this is based on my experience. If the crowd and experience is better later into the night then don’t open so early. If I shouldn’t base my review on the food I had, then don’t sell it.

LaGrange is one fine addition to the Deep Ellum community. The venue boasts a fabulous sound system, making this a great place for a band. I’ve seen various acts here, and not once has it been a bad experience. The décor here and layout is awesome. No creaky tables or chairs… there is more modern stuff here. The garage door at the front opens on nice nights, giving the place a nice breeze and opening it up some. I remember a couple of years ago I was standing in line for a Reverend Horton Heat show at Trees and because of the garage door being open, I got to watch Sleazy Mancini play while I waited. What a treat! They serve food here, so Wednesday nights are a great time to eat since it’s half price. Also, they have a brunch menu worth checking out too. Great job, La Grange!

Hey now! I love this place. I don’t know if it is the neon lights illuminating the lucite antlers above the bar or the high ceilings with over-sized screen water well print images on the wall opposite the bar that make me swoon every time I walk in. But, gosh darnit, what a lovely, live music venue in the heart of the one-of-a-kind Deep Ellum that serves alcoholic snow cones. Can’t get much better than that. ‘Nuff said.

For me La Grange is more of a venue than a restaurant bar. Repeatedly I have attended networking events here and sketching groups. In addition, it’s a hot spot for parties(ugly sweater holiday parties!), pub crawls(i like the zombie variety), and even movies. THESPACE: works pretty well for every purpose. Room to move around and mingle, yet still seating at the bar, tables, and half-booths. The patio is pretty big. There’s also a secondary room(more for those wanting a restaurant– that I’ve never used before?) THEFOOD&DRINK: I’ve tried brunch here, and it was delicious. They have some cheap Mimosa prices. Also, I’ve had the wonderful snow cone. Mine was cherry with malibu, pretty good. I just read Morgan’s review and think guava rum sounds pretty amazing though. Next time, I’m going for that! Beer I typically find to be a little overpriced, but what can you do.

I really like this bar/venue. The ambiance reminds me of Tillman’s Roadhouse, sort of a «Texas-chic» with the glass deer head lights. The drinks are decently priced and they had a pretty good selection of libations. Being in Deep Ellum, I expected more of a grundge-like crowd but it was pretty mixed, with hipsters and yupsters sharing the breathing space. The live music is pretty cool since most of the bands are local. I’m not sure I’ll try the food anytime soon but I’ll def. come back to rock out…

Wow, deep ellum is back! Places like LaGrange are the future of the area. I went for Saturday brunch. I couldn’t believe how much food was on the buffet: pancakes, frenchs toast, scramble eggs, mexican scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, omelette bar, eggs benedict, bisquits and gravy… and more!!! I am coming back soon to try dinner.

I give it to you — you’re one of the few places that serves brunch on a Saturday morning. WHYDALLASWHY? WHYCAN’T YOUDOBRUNCHONSATURDAYMORNINGSTOO? WAHHHH It was so weird. My friend got there first and called me at 11:30am and told me it was closed. CLOSED? Err? The website says they open at 11am! She walks around and then walks back and all of a sudden, they’re open. I was a little impressed with the place when I first walked in. There was already a band playing in the front. That was cool. No one came to seat our party so we just sat ourselves. A waitress comes up to us to take our drink order. We knew something was weird with her from the get go. She was just so out of it! We dismiss it and proceed to order our food. 3 of us ordered the Texas Eggs Benedict, 1 ordered the Fried Eggs Slider, and 1 ordered a simple breakfast but also added a side of bacon. When our food came, everything looked tasty but we had no utensils! I guess since we sat ourselves, they didn’t think to bring us those. Well, we waited and waited to get our utensils but our waitress never came back! We had to flag her down to get them. The food was boring. Based on prior reviews, I was expecting my eggs benedict to be out of this world but they weren’t. My favorite brunch entrée of all time is eggs benedict and they failed! Sorry, adding 3 slices of jalapenos does not make it «Texan». I think if you’re trying to make your eggs benedict different from any other eggs benedict than you need to make more of an effort. The potatoes were ordinary. I would like to say the fried eggs slider were pretty cute and cool. I had one bite and was regretting what I ordered… but come on! Eggs Benedict is my fave! I shouldn’t be regretting to order that! Unfortunately my friend’s side of bacon never came. Once again, our waitress was nowhere to be seen so we finally waved her down again to ask for refills. By then, my friend was basically done with his meal so he asked to cancel the bacon and the waitress was actually surprised he never got his bacon. Hello! You never brought it out! We were all thinking, «what is this girl on??» We’re done with our meals and we’re just sitting there. We wanted to pay but AGAIN! Waitress was nowhere to be seen. we kept seeing the other waiter so we asked him to get our waitress to come to us. I have to end this saying I really do empathize for the service industry. I was a waitress for basically 10 years all throughout high school and college so I know! The restaurant had a total of 5 tables. It was not busy… I probably won’t ever ever come here for the food but I would probably come for a drink and to check out the band.

Good food, great atmosphere, and music. What more can you ask for, and like everyone’s said — we couldn’t be happier that places like this are drawing a crowd back to Deep Ellum. We came for brunch and were pleasantly surprised that in the middle of our meal, the table of «guys that look like they could be homeless or maybe in a band» sitting near us finished their eggs, picked up their drinks, went into the front room, plugged in their instruments and commenced to being a band. These Mad Dogs of Glory, to be exact. And they were F’ing LEGIT. Menu is succinct, but imaginative. Service is accommodating, although not super attentive(hello, my fork just fell off the table, please make eye contact with me soon) but to be expected from the unicorn hoodie over black skinny jeans sporting waitstaff. I’d definitely come here again for brunch, and probably a great place to meet friends and have dinner before a night out checking out some of the new bars in the area. Too bad I’m just now finding out about the booze filled snow cones, just after the weather went from high of 83 in November to freezing balls over night ruining Thanksgiving game tailgate cold. Oh well, they also have movie nights, most recently they showed Roadhouse. RIP Dalton. See ya on the flip side.

Stopped by for brunch last Sunday simply because i heard they had bottomless mimosas which ended up not being that grate because it felt more like a orange juice with a splash of sparkling wine. There were only about 2 Breakfast brunch items so i settled for the La Grange Breakfast which came with 2 eggs, hash and Bacon/sausage of your choice. It was fairly ok. I noticed that there was a bar and live band part to this establishment and i noticed like some school kids band performing so there was a lot of movement and traffic. One cool thing about the spot is that they had tables outside where folks could also sit and enjoy the brunch. They werent so attentive to refilling the watered down mimosas but were not bad either. My friend ordered the Rock Shrimp Quesadillas and i think she enjoyed it. Deep Ellum lacks the ambience for a brunch but maybe they will get it together soon so i can come back for some more fun.

Some guys from Austin opened this place about a year ago, and along with the new DART stop, signifies the new life in Deep Ellum. Modeled after the Continental Club in Austin, this casual place with cool décor has all Texas bands ranging in all genres, a menu, brunch, a patio and alcoholic sno cones. A community vibe prevails with things like talent shows for young musicians. Highly recommended.

One word: Brunch. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a band to serenade you while you eat. If not, the $ 10 bottomless mimosas will keep you company. And if bubbly orange juice isn’t your thing, give the spicy Bloody Marys a whirl. They’re potent and fiery enough to kick whatever dog you had the night before right in the ass. The Texas Eggs Benedict were as yummy as I’d imagined. Puffy little egg pillows with perfectly tangy hollandaise sauce, applewood(maybe?) bacon and grilled jalapenos all nestled on a crunchy English muffin. And seriously, who knew the only thing missing from Eggs Benedict was jalapeño? The home fries, with roasted red pepper and leeks were cooked to crunchy-on-the-outside/soft-on-the-inside perfection. The side of fruit was a nice touch, even though I didn’t eat it. The best part about the whole thing? This food tastes exactly like my all-time favorite brunch at the Libertine! Thank goodness for roaming chefs.(inside note: the chef at LaGrange used to work for the Libertine) Next on the list to try, the fried egg sliders. Trust me. I probably don’t spend enough time in Deep Ellum. I do believe LaGrange is going to help me fix that. Especially now that I’ve seen the bottom of the bottomless mimosas and oh, my… the well is deeeeeeeeeep.

As an avid lover of all things Libertine, I knew it wasn’t going to take much for me to fall in love with La Grange. My tummy knows the cuisine of Chef Roseanne«Ro» DiLeo quite well from many a nights spent at the Libertine’s cozy quarters, sipping Manhattans and gnawing on hog wings… What she has done with the food at La Grange is nothing short of brilliant. A nice mix between Tex and Mex. Fresh and cool. Hot and spicy. It has the qualities of an eatery in New York or San Francisco, without the pretension. Hip without being obnoxious. If you go for brunch, stick to the excellent Bloody Mary and the Texas Eggs Benedict with jalapenos and bacon. Lunch was definitely superior to brunch in my book, which wasn’t much of a surprise because while I loved brunch at Libertine, dinner was always my cuisine of choice there. For starters, we ordered some chips and queso with a bowl of fresh chopped tomatillo salsa. The salsa is more like a relish or chutney. Fresh, tangy slivers of tomatillo mingle with the cilantro and lime. It feels healthy when it goes down. Her interpretation of queso is great because it is simple. Its cheese. No brisket, no pico, no guac or sour cream to dress it up. Just high quality cheese with the right amount of spice. I had the grilled ham and turkey melt sandwich served with sweet potatoe fries. This was basically a grilled cheese stuffed with high quality meat and a special touch of «Avocado Pico», a blend of avocado, tomato, and probably some lime among other ingredients. it comes with a side of tasty dressing which I used for dipping. Very delicious. Coworkers ordered the«BLT» sliders(thats B as in BRISKET).When i asked how it was he said«Do you see anything left on my plate??» Rock Shrimp quesadillas and Smoked Chicken Nachos also got rave reviews. The nachos come with queso on the side so you can cheese them up however you see fit. I’ll be back ASAP. Possibly tonight. Can’t wait to try the drinks and enjoy a shaved ice out on the patio.

Cool lil bar. Wasn’t too packed when my cohort and I visited. But the band that was playing was really good. Had a nice almost garage band concert feel as we were listening to the music while sipping on drinks. Talked to a couple of the customers there. Pretty friendly, eclectic crowd. Would def. make a pit stop here when I am inclined to hop around Deep Ellum if the music and caliber of band I saw that night is the norm.
