Sol’s has no soul.
«Tacos*Art*Bar»… I have a feeling the tacos will leave art in my toilet. The chicken enchilada with «green» sauce sucked. I think the chicken was boiled. To call my chicken taco a taco is insulting to tacos.
Taco Lounge. Yeah, the chicken was lounging like an uninspired acting student in the mission tortilla.
In about twenty minutes I’ll coat my anus with varied acrylics and blow the #1 two item special onto stretched canvas and hang it on the wall, with the other crap covering the amateur Faux, at $ 600 a pop…
Or should I say plop?

So after joining this crazy facebook group all about tacos, I have been craving some serious tacos EVERY DAY. I was in the Deep Ellum area and saw this taco place. Unfortunately, I did not consult Unilocal (I know, bad Unilocaler). As soon as I walk in, I see a sign for «famous baby tacos» which makes me laugh hysterically and wonder what the manager was thinking when he came up with that. Anyways, on to the real food. The beef fajita was ok, but the «grilled» onions and peppers were not really cooked at all, and I am not a huge fan of giant chunks of raw onion. Do not ever get the chicken. I’m still trying to figure out what that mystery meat was (baby, perhaps?). It had the color and texture of canned tuna, but tasted kind of like chicken. I’ve never had canned chicken, but maybe that was what it was. I don’t know why in the world a restaurant would think it was a good idea to serve canned meat. Service was ok, but there was no one else in there so it would have been pretty hard to screw that up. I highly doubt I’ll ever go back again… unless I get in the mood to sample some baby.

wow. i rarely give 1-​star reviews. a place has to be really, really bad to get one star. sol’s? earned the one star by not giving me food poisoning.
we showed up at about 7:30 on a saturday to have dinner before a rock show. we had to be at the other place at 9, so we though we’d have loads of time. there was only one waitress working, but there were only like three other tables when we walked in.
well, at 8 we still had our menus.
we finally ordered, thinking, hey, maybe our food will come out fast since the place is so empty and they’ve tortured us so far… ha! wrong. we got our food at about 8:30. (well, some of did. seems they only had one person in the kitchen too. did they not know what day of the week it was?)
so, the food.
well, i can say that it’s good we were starving at this point. because the food? was bad. i had flautas, and they were soggy, full of unseasoned chicken and accompanied by bland beans and rice and guacamole. i salted everything within an inch of its life, which helped a little.
the boyfriend got a steamed fish and crab thing with garlic sauce. what he got was overcooked fish and fake crab with no sauce. the vegetables that came with it seemed to have been cooked several times before they made it to our table. the whole thing basically had the texture of baby food.
the friends we were with got their food gradually (it took probably 20 minutes for all 9 of us to get food and 4 of us were sharing so it was basically a table of 5, foodwise).
so, yeah, sol’s? we will never be back. won’t matter because if you keep this up? you’ll be gone soon enough anyway and maybe a real restaurant can take your place.

Duuuuude. This place is gnarls. Stumbled upon Sol’s one night when we were driving around looking for someplace new to explore. I felt like tacos and yummy goodness. Grease and liquor. My two favorite condiments.
Walk in. One other couple is there. Mkay.
Sit down. Waiter brings menus and waters. I order a margarita on the rocks as does the BF. Margaritas come. HOLY SALT! It’s like the salt replaced the tequila. Drink it anyway… not sure why.
I ordered the Tostadas. Again, not really sure why since I don’t really order them anywhere else. BF orders enchiladas. My tostadas come and their cold. Not like room temp cold, but like out of the fridge cold. Not sure if its supposed to be cold (and yes I understand lettuce is cold), but the whole thing was. The hot sauce on it was sour and not in a good way. Lettuce was brown and the guac was like out of one of those squirt guns. *shivers* BF of course finished his meal, but he was like «this is interesting» as he pours copious amounts of salt and I said «you want some salt from my margarita?». No joke.
Our server was nice and attentive, but man the food was just real bad. I thought maybe they had an off night, and I’m always willing to give someone a second chance, but the next time we went… we asked for the bill halfway through our meal. Worse. Not even going into that experience.
Sol’s…if you want to stay in Deep Ellum (and I am all for preservation of the area, yada yada yada) then duuuude GET IT TOGETHER. There are tons and tons of places like this in the city… you’ve got competition. Peace.

My love affair with Sol’s is pretty much over. What happened to the flavor? Everything is so bland. The cheese in my enchiladas hardened before I was even a few bites in so I let the rest go to waste, and left hungry. Bleh. Such a shame.

2.5 overall experience but i rounded up because we were there during the week about 10 min before they closed. got the veggie taco which was nice with peppers, squash, spinach. a bean and cheese taco which was nothing special.

We ended up here when Angry Dog was too packed to accomodate our large group. When we walked in, it was about 8:30 on a Saturday night and there was almost no one in there. Which was good for us, but never a good sign. The service was terrible. We had about 3 or 4 servers who kept coming back and asking the same questions the other ones had just asked. It took about 30 minutes to get a bowl of queso and about 45 – 60 minutes for fajitas to arrive. Considering the fact that the place was nearly empty — this, to me, was unacceptable. We ordered queso flameado with chorizo which is fun to watch when they bring it, but it didn’t taste very good. The chorizo had no flavor. The margaritas were strong, but not great and the menu seems a bit pricey to me. We had to ask for refills of water and tea and I had to ask for our check twice before getting it. Sorry guys, we won’t be back.

My girlfriend and I visit and/​or get deliveries from Sol’s at least once or twice a month. It is really good and the staff is always friendly — AND they deliver.

I ate here last night before seeing a show at The Door, which is right around the corner. I wish I could give half stars, this place was really more of a 2.5.
Overall, the place is a neat looking lounge with a funky atmosphere that fits into the Deep Ellum scene. The chips and salsa were good and the menu was big, with lots to choose from. The prices were steep, but they were having a special– half price on select menu items with the purchase of any soft drink. The service was really slow– I think there was only one guy working all the tables (tough break). I wasn’t impressed with the stuffed pepper with cheese at all, it was pretty bland and soggy tasting. I ended up just eating the chips and salsa. If I was seeing a show at the Door I might eat here again, but I certainly won’t be going back just for Sol’s Tacos.

Sols used to be one of the treasures of Deep Ellum but i saw a sign saying its under new Management and it was obviously clear. I was there for lunch and nothing much has changed in the décor and the menu looked the same also with the Jukebox playing in the background.
I ordered off the lunch menu and had the Fajita Combo and my friend had a sandwich and soup combo which was fairly decent. The soup was a Seafood type soup with Cilantro in it and had generous portions of Fish and shrimp and the Chicken sandwich had avocado slices which made it tasty but back to my order which was just simple old Fajitas, First my beans were so bland and watery that adding salt and pepper even made it worse. I mean this is Dallas where 90% of the kitchen staff is of hispanic decent so how can you screw up the beans. Moving over to the Fajita meat. The Chicken wasnt that greatly seasoned but still edible but the Beef Fajitas were way too tough for my new and improved bridge teeth so i had to swallow or risk messing up my $ 4000 dental upgrade.
I must say that i have had way better meals at Sols and i hope the new management will get it together or the line across the street at Twisted root will get longer and i will miss my American Airline miles that i normally get when i dine at Sols.

Sol’s is really good food at very reasonable prices. My favorite is the chicken tacos al carbon! Awesome! three of them, with onions and peppers! YUM! and they also have good drinks, and great quesadillas, good queso, great, fresh guacamole, too! and they deliver!

From what I remember of it, this was a *really* great place. I actually didn’t eat their food until the day after I was there – thanks in large part to shooting Tawaka (grimace) at the Doublewide with roller derby girls. After stumbling all the way to the other end of Deep Ellum, past Angry Dog and down to Sol’s and ordering, my friend and I exchanged trips to the bathroom only to stumble out in what I would guess was ‘Preston-​Sturges-​movie-​like-​drunken-​hilarity’ to toss down a 20 on the table (it was half-​price food night – Mondays, I think?) which more than covered our tab plus a decent tip. Grabbed to-​go boxes for our untouched meals, made a bit of a scene, then tripped all the way down Commerce Street back to the Doublewide.
Somehow we weren’t accosted/​molested. The next day, once I was able, I had the Sol’s meal reheated and it was really good! I’ll go back when the embarassment subsides and I don’t think they’ll recognize me.
