Great drink selection and good bar food. Space is causal with lots of nooks and crannies. Servers are good about checking in frequently even when busy.

I think this is a great place. Unique atmosphere, sort of vintage. Great beer on tap. Fish in chips are really good and the same for the burgers. Not a big fan of the fries. They are the shoestring cut type. Most of the waitresses are super nice. Certainly worth going!

Amazing pub, I feel like I’m tucked away in Europe you can even have fun and try to speak in a British accent while enjoying a craft cask rare beer. The music is the best, indie rock, folk, worldly… Ian the bartender is Excellent. Every person that works at the Monk is unique and make you feel at home. I am obsessed with eating the mussels, hands down best in Dallas, cheese plates are extroidinary to say the least. I love the old wrought iron throughout the Monk, pay attention to the detail of the exterior and interior of the building very pretty. Going to the Old Monk is like you took a trip to New York City or Europe for the day. I love it much!

Came with a party of four. We each ordered something different, though all hot drinks. Hot and buttered rum?, a hot toddy, Abuela, and I forgot the last one… Something with mint? Anyway, I liked all my friends’ except mine — the buttered rum one — not because of the cinnamon, but because of the overall balance of flavor. Abuela was my favorite, though it really tasted like the best hot chocolate EVER. We were all convinced there was no alcohol… Very dangerous drink. The hot toddy was just the right amount of whisky mixed with other deliciousness. Apparently it’s watered down whisky, but whatever, I liked it :) and my friend kindly traded with me. I also ordered the spicy tempura mushroom appetizer. It was good but nothing extraordinary. It’s only«spicy» because they drizzled Sriracha on the ranch. I do like how the kitchen stays open until 11! Good for those who get the late night munchies. Would come back for more hot drinks this winter :) just not for the buttered rum one!

Go here on a cold rainy day and you might never leave. They have a great verity of tasty beers and liquors from different parts of Europe. I would recommend having their fish and chips with extra vinegar and a hotty Toddy or one of their many great deers.

Great food, drinks, and service. Four of us all walked out for less than $ 125. Pretty great for the area that it is located in.

Great place, bit noisy but they have a great patio if you enjoy quiet. The menu is fantastic pub food done right. Not super greasy lazy pub food, this is great pub food you can actually enjoy. And Cheese boards! Only issue is too many options… I must come back more to keep trying them. Great problem to have, don’t change a thing!

Consistency is a virtue: in service, quality of bevvies and food and general great pub vibe. We’ve never, in over a decade of coming here, had less than a mellow, consistent, very good experience. The cheese plates, fish n chips, German plate etc. …there is a perfect pairing from the stupendous array of lovely libations. Stop by. You’ll love it and become a forever customer!

After a recommendation from a chef friend, I had to try out the Old Monk. An archetype of a gastropub, the Old Monk is decorated with monastery-themed artwork and plenty of dark wood. The drinks are solid, but what really drew me here was the platter of mussels. A 1-lb affair, the mussels are steamed in what tasted like beer and herbs, which left a lovely savory flavor in my mouth. The garlic bread mini-loaf that accompanied it was delightful on its own, but served a better job as a sponge for the aromatic broth. Definitely order the mussels with the frites, just to have it in the classic Belgium-style. The frites are crispy and thin and the mayo dips they serve it with are very addictive. I can’t wait to try the other meals, but based on the mussels, I’m sure it’s all good.

I love the Old Monk pub!!! Friendly wait staff? Check Warm laid back atmosphere with no attitude? Check Great beer and drinks selection? Check Excellent food with good portions in case you’re hungry? Check Conveniently located and close to home? Check Fantastic patio? Check I love the location. There’s a good mix of the college crowd and local Highland Park locals. Everyone’s there to have a good time with good food and drinks. This is the new go to spot when I want to hang out with friends. I only wish this place was a little bigger cause it does take some time to find seating and parking is not always easy to find. Otherwise, no complaints.

I came for brunch and although they had an amazing selection, I ended up getting their famous Fish and Chips. Even though it was early hours, Fish and Chips are perfect anytime there. I also couldn’t help it but try their Guinness Beef stew. I was curious if it tasted like Guinness since most dishes that hint at alcohol being used as a main ingredient don’t taste anything like it. It had that strong Irish taste I love so much. The scene was lively. Their mimosas very strong. And the staff is very nice and cutesy. For the price, pub-ish vibe, and outdoor seating… This is a great Brunch spot that isn’t insanely busy at those Sunday morning hours.

Nice old school bar. At night time this place looks like an old Boston bar — Dark and Rich. The beer is a little pricey but worth it due to the location and environment.

Nice bar! Ok, I am drawn to places that remind me of home, New Orleans. As I walked into this place… I thought of Bulldog! Laid back bar full of patrons. It was the beer on taps, dark wood, and younger crowd that brought me back to my college hang out spot.

I liked this place the first time that I went. So much so, that I recommended it to my girlfriend and we planned to spend Saturday afternoon here having food and drinks. We sat down outside at a table and the waitress came right over. She was friendly and helpful and took our drink order while we looked over the menu to decide what kind of food to order. Then the manager came over and told us that dogs are not allowed, even outside on the patio. Her dog is a 5 pound Doxiepoo that is smaller than most bunny rabbits. He was sitting in her lap. They asked us to leave because of the doggie. In a city FULL of dog-friendly outdoor restaurants, this one is totally out of place. Most places not only welcome dogs, but they will bring out a little bowl of water. This is the first place I have found that has outdoor seating and prohibits friendly animals. This sucks because I just moved into the neighborhood and I was looking forward to making this bar my new«go to» local watering hole.

Fun atmosphere on the patio and excellent Sangria!(I prefer the Red) Also, the Grilled Chicken Salad is SO good — fresh avocado and zesty dressing, YUM! If you’re in the area, check this one out :)
