This is my favorite place to dance to ol’ school hip hop in DFW. The DJ’s play the best songs and the crowd is always boisterous and fun. Definitely one of the best spots in Dallas to unwind and groove to beat.

It’s now closed. Will re-open in a few months at a different location with larger venue, better restrooms, and bigger parking lot. Can’t wait!!!

First time going this past Saturday. I enjoyed myself. It’s very small but the crowd is cool and the music is awesome

Never fails to disappoint. I went to the Slip Inn last weekend with a group of friends. I was met by a large, diverse, vibrant crowd that seemed to be having a good time. We ordered some drinks, and then the roof caved in. The female bartender FLIPPEDOUT when she mistakenly accused my colleague of «running out» on his tab even though he was still standing in front of her. Why was she so angry? Is it because she has to work when those around her are having fun? Is it because she still harbors anger over her stepfather’s boundary issues? Or, is it because junior college didn’t turn out to be as easy as everyone said it was going to be? I’ll never know. But I do know that the combination of her histrionic sarcasm and her sickly pallor quickly began to drain the fun out of our night. The diminuitive, angry man-boy guarding the front door only added to my disdain. I can only imagine that his angst and frustration with the world stems from the disappointment of repeated life failures that led him to his current post. Maybe the suburban police academies have met their quotas for small, petty men with chips on their shoulders and simply don’t have room for one more? Was he fired from better neighborhood bars for being so small that even the SMU girls stand a chance in a fair fistfight? Again, I’ll never know. After being asked for cocaine for about the fifth or sixth time by other patrons, I decided it was time to leave. Why did these guys think I was a cocaine dealer? Yes, I was one of the only white guys there. But what is it about a Brooks Brothers sweater and Ralph Lauren chinos that makes one think, «That guy is a drug dealer. He can help me. I am going to go talk to him.» The Slip Inn is a convenient place to grab a cheap drink if all of the better bars in the area are too crowded or you can’t meet the dress code requirement elsewhere.

Don’t tell anyone but I have a secret obsession with The Slip Inn. To me, it is the only place in the Knox-Henderson area that is good for dancing and it sure draws an interesting crowd. I’ll admit, I only venture to The Slip Inn after a few adult beverages but regardless, I always have a great time here. The drinks are cheap, the music is great and it is everything I want in a dive bar — no windows, 1 bathroom and an odd smell that you don’t really know what it is or where it’s coming from. It’s like The Loon for non-SMU students, which is a win in my book!

I heard this was a great place to go hear some good music; I heard right! I only stayed for 30 minutes and I heard Outkast, Mary J., 2 Short, Biggie, etc. Right up my alley. Went on on a Monday night at around 10:45– there was no one there. Bartender said people show up on Mondays around midnight. Left around 11:30 and there was still no one there. Bartender convo was short and sweet. Drink was strong. Bathroom was gross. Music was great. Sometimes I miss my east coast clubs but tonight I felt right at home.

This place was a good place to visit at the time, considering I wasn’t dressed for going out and was just looking for a place with decent drink prices. The place isn’t nice, clean, or trendy. I did like their drink specials but that was about it. A true dive bar, some sketchy patrons included. It was very dark, had a few tables, very generous bar(in length), and had an enthusiastic dj. I would go again if friends invited me but I wouldn’t seek out this bar on my own.

This bar is not too bad for a Dive bar. We had a good time here jamming to old/new school hip hop. The drinks were decently priced and good. There was plenty of parking here. This place was crowded around midnight so you may get bumped into here. This is has to be one of my favorite dive bar.

This place used to be good. I could go over here at 2 – 3 in the afternoon and have a drink without being bothered. I would always leave at 9 pm when the SMU crowd started coming in, so I was fine with it. Now they don’t open until late, and it is always crowded. No place for a guy who likes dive bars to go to anymore.

(Review applies to Friday and Saturday nights) I remember when this place was one of my favorite spots. My Bat-cave of sorts. Heavy drinks, DJ Souljah killn it, and great diversity. Now its a small fraction of what it once was. The layout has always sucked. You get no space to get comfortable. Its has a narrow L-shape, and at its axis people gather to dance. Horrible design. But now the crowd has turned to this rookie-ish. A bunch of aggressive goonies who are far too disrespectful. Never a good thing for a confined environment. Amateur hour. Sad thing about bars and clubs is how easily the crowd influences the atmosphere. No matter how decadent or crappy the venue is, the energy lives in the people who attend. Ahh, The Slip Inn. 1. The name… I’ve been and I still have a hard time thinking it’s not an «adult» establishment. If you ever intend to open one… please name it The Slip Inn for me(I will also accept The Slip In).(: 2. I heard about this place over and over again. We arrived and waited in line for 30 minutes or so when groups of barely dressed girls walked right in like they owned the place. I figured the line was an indication of how awesome it was going to be. 3. First thought = smells funky in here. 4. Just didn’t think it was worth all of the hype. I mean, it’s not bad but not worth sitting outside of it for longer than you want to be in it… three people deep at the bar in a very small place. Many bars in the area… I suggest the others with no wait outside the building.

More like slip out of consciousness! Drinks are very strong and cheap($ 5), it’s always full of people on the weekends, and the music is eclectic. When I come with friends, we always have a great time, whether it’s dancing in the back or hanging out on the patio. It’s totally fine to just be yourself here. One time I came wearing UGGS and a rainjacket and didn’t feel out of place at all. One downside to this place is that it’s pretty tiny, and can feel pretty claustrophobic when it gets packed!

I’m shocked that this place sometimes has a line and/or is doing well. This is beyond hole in the wall. This is the hole-in-the-wall-of-an-outhouse-bad. Let’s get this straight. This place is all painted black. Walls, tables and there are some random booths. Not sure why. It’s in a strange spot. It’s right next to a liquor store. This dirty grimey disgusting dark place is … whole lot of fun. Let’s get the right frame of mind and /or expectation. It’s a whole lot of fun if you’re no longer sober. This place is always packed, dark and cover free. This is where you find a random place and start dancing. It could be by the pool table(who the hell knows why they have one; everyone should just dance on it). Overall, If you’re plastered and you want to get your dance on this is the place to go in lower greenville. P. S. Hope you don’t need to go hit the bathroom. This place is the most disgusting place to go pee. So take your shots while in line! You may need to not remember it. P. P. S. Oh it gets crazy so you may even want to party and dance while in the bathroom line. I did that last time lol.

So, I’ve been in Dallas a little over a year and a half. I’m from Atlanta, and one the biggest things I miss in Atlanta is a little hole in the wall called MJQ. Not anymore. The Slip Inn has to be related to MJQ in some way. From the atmosphere, to the DJ’s, to the drinks, to the crowd — this club is MJQ’s little brother. It’s hot — it’s sweaty — but the drinks are cheap, it’s diverse(you’ll see everyone — gay, straight, black, white, hispanic, asian, old, young, you name it), the people are nice(both the bartenders as well as the clientele), and it’s unpretentious. You can come in some jeans and a T-shirt, The Slip won’t mind. In fact, I think I want one of those«Defend Dallas» T-Shirts. If you like the«see and be seen» crowd — if you want to hear Top 40’s pop tart hits — then the Slip Inn is NOT for you. If you want to go somewhere, have a few drinks, and jam to some songs you haven’t heard in years(«girl I haven’t heard that since 1997!!!») — then give the Slip Inn a shot! By the way — use the bathroom before you get here. Trust me on this — you can thank me later. :)

Blackout drunk and wanna dance? Ding ding ding ding. This is were you go towards the end of the night, once you’ve quit drinking on account that you have far surpassed your limit. I’m talking — blackout, vomit, or your friends cutting you off because you’re being a dick — passed your limit. Besides, trying to order a drink at this bar is pretty much impossible, so just dance and enjoy the sweat and musk of your 100+ new best buddies. Due to the fire-code breaking crowds, dancing is more or less shaking your booty against the people who are crushed up against you. Essentially, everyone is just rubbing their arses together. Also, be prepared to have your arse grabbed about 7 times and sometimes, it’s on accident. There is also a danger factor. If you aren’t run over in the parking lot or shanked in the alley, there is always the chance you may get stuck by a needle caught in the cushions of a booth. Sound appealing yet? I can’t explain why, but despite all the stank and the ass — the Slip Inn is a brilliant time.

The music varies kinda wildly here given the different DJs that work the place. Some nights it’s like being in a Beyonce box set and others it’s actually playing stuff the people inside seem to enjoy. Drinks are good, not huge, but also not too expensive. Patio out back for sweating bullets in the summer. Inside is what I’d call mildly air conditioned(take 10 degrees off the outside temperature). The main reason I like this place, other than that patrons inside are NOT douchebags, is that it has it’s own parking lot, which usually has at least a few spaces that are almost impossible to park in with a normal car. What can I say, I love a challenge!

With a name of a place like that, I expected it to be an upscale club/lounge where you have to be on the list to get in. I never thought that this place is actually a hole-in-the wall-ish. There were a couple of pool tables, plenty of places to sit for a drink, and a DJ that played awesome that made me want to dance, dance, dance the night away! This is truly a break from the pretentious bar scene that is prominent in the Uptown area. I’ll come back next time. ;)

Maybe I went on a bad night. I always pass by the Slip Inn when I get my coffee, and I had read good reviews of it on Unilocal,so when a couple friends and I were at a loss of where to go on a Saturday night, I suggested the Slip Inn(much to the amusement of my friend, who really liked the name). The little parking lot off to the side was full, but we didn’t have any trouble finding parking off the side street. Watch the pavement though… it’s uneven, as the girl wearing 5 inch heels found out the hard way when she took a tumble while walking in front of us. Ouch. So 5-inch heels girl and her pretentious looking posse get in line in front of us(the line was about 3 people long at that point) and proceed to drunkenly badger the doorman about letting them in. Doorman is cool and calmly turns them away. Meanwhile, the line grows behind us so that they have to turn the line around the back of the tiny building so nobody gets run over. A mix of people… college students but also an older crowd. That’s cool. Then we get inside after about a 5 min wait(doorman thanks us for being cool). Inside. NOTCOOL. Literally. It was packed with people. It was sweaty, and hot, and there was barely enough room to move. My friends and I took one look at the dance floor and decided to stay back — it was like sardines in a can. My selective claustrophobia kicked in and we hightailed it out of there and went across the street. Maybe on a night where there was actually room to breathe and not worry about being elbowed in the face… I did enjoy the music for the 10 minutes we were there though…

I lured a few unsuspecting people to the Slip Inn for my birthday celebration. They thank me for it. When I decided this to be my venue of choice a few people wholeheartedly agreed and then I got a few nervous nods, and a few«I’ve heard of that place! I’ve never been!» Sweet. Bumping music, friendly and fast bartenders and tons of friendly people to shake your groove thang with. I danced with more people than I can shake a stick at but sadly enough, I can’t tell you who they were. I really wish I could remember some. It’s going to be packed, its going to be loud, but it’s going to be fun. Here’s to the slip inn, and here’s to having someone help you slip out!

This place rocks out with its !@#$ out. Crowded as hell and a guy-to-girl ratio of oh no you didn’t… yet this place is still banging. Why? The music yo. Saturday nights, this place is playing some goooooooood mixes of hip-hop and rap. I could not keep myself from two-stepping with a little twist. Head was nodding the whole time. For tight beats, this is the place to be. Plus, you can get your predrink on in your car if you go to the convenience store next door. But I wouldn’t recommend it. Or would I…
