WOW! Very surprised first time in Danbury and was looking for a local resteraunt for lunch. Ordered Jami can quesadilla, was great flavor. Homemade chips and homemade salsa was to die for. Wish I could take them home with me. Very freindly wait staff. I was very happy with the lunch, very reasonably priced. Worth a trip back here.

The building is a converted firehouse. Inside they have a firetruck that is split in half and hangs on two sides of a wall. It is pretty cool actually. I wish they still retained the fire pole. The restaurant is has both an upstairs and downstairs. It is not the newest place and the table and chairs are getting on in age. I haven’t been to this restaurant in probably 15 yrs. Nothing has really changed in that time. The waitstaff are all very friendly and helpful. You never spend any time waiting for anything since they are attentive. I was there on Thanksgiving. They put on a small but tasty buffet for only $ 20. Which includes dessert and coffee at the end. If you are looking for some comfort food at a good price, this is a good place for you. Assuming you can find parking. In front there are only about 6 parking spots. There is a nearby parking garage, which happened to be closed the day I was there. I lucked out and was able to score a spot in front.

As soon as I walked in I loved the transformation of this old fire house to a fun and comfortable atmosphere. I went with my husband and daughters and everyone was able to find something they like. I ordered and recommend the Mac and cheese appetizer. It was enough to share with my daughter, and was cheesy and yummy. For dinner the Titan Burger and it was cooked perfectly and tasty. Service was fantastic. Our waitress Marisa was very friendly and super attentive. Will definitely go back.

What a Danbury gem! Food was great! Get the lobster and cheese sandwich! Loved it! Fun interior! Would love to see this place more busy!

Not sure why – but my review is missing. Maybe because I complained about the infestation of fruit flies! My friend & I returned one month later and were still bothered by fruit flies & we sat at a table instead of the bar to avoid them! Has the owner ever thought of cleaning better or an exterminator??? On the positive side – the appetizer scallops are awesome!!!

For Mother’s Day brunch, we opted for the buffet. It was absolutely horrible for the $ 19.00 per person price. I had been there previously 15 years ago for a rehearsal dinner and had a positive experience so I was surprised at my meal today. My husband, 20 years ago, was there for cooking classes and had an amazing experience, and couldn’t believe that this is what they offered. The best part of the meal was the fried chicken(untraditional as it was for a Mother’s Day brunch), and obviously bought from Sysco Food Services. This is a good product when put out for free at a happy hour.(Did I mention my husband has worked in the food industry as not only a chef but a bar/restaurant owner for over 30 years?) Besides the chicken on the buffet, there was a breakfast menu of powdered scrambled eggs, microwaved sausage and dried up unseasoned hash browns. No bacon. I was personally hoping for quiche or an omelet station for this price. No rolls, only half bagels. No toast. No fresh fruit. No lox– which I was also hoping for. No carving station either. Salad had cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, diced onions and black olives with 3 dressing options. Did I mention I had the worst Bloody Mary of my life which tasted of horseradish only? I guess we should have gone to Ethan Allen. Hey Tom Devine, do you stlll own the place? You should be embarrassed now.

Two Steps has been a staple of downtown Danbury for as long as I can remember, which is why I’m bummed to see it decline so much. I’ve gone twice in the past 3 months the first time we had drinks and dinner, the beer selection was really good and that was the only reason we went back the second time. The food unfortunately was inedible. Typically I’m not super critical if I can eat it I won’t complain, but literally the two dishes we had were God awful. I had the buffalo chicken wrap which was like a raw tortilla stuffed with tasteless wall paper paste with random chunks of bits in it and my bf had the calamari with jalapeños, it was so salty, not just a touch over. I took a bite and I had to spit it out. Needless to say we didn’t eat our food, the bartender came over and saw we had barely touched our food and was like you guys must not be hungry because that is the two best dishes on the menu :-/scary. We didn’t return the food, we finished our beers and paid then went to mill plain and had a real dinner. It’s sad to see a place that used to be such a hotspot start to decline. We went back again and had beer, no food. Bartender was beer savvy and personable, I will go back but never to eat again.

Went there before catching a Danbury Whalers game. The service was good as everyone who came to our table asked if we needed anything at all which is a nice alternative to getting the awkward stare from food runners and hostesses at other places. The chips they put out at the beginning were a bit stale and not warm and the salsa was pasty which I found odd. We started with the cheeseburger spring rolls which were really good, especially with the sauce they served it with. For my meal, I had the chicken quesadilla, and it was good but nothing special and served with that same pasty salsa, though the sour cream and guacamole were good. Overall, the place was good and I would go back. I feel with just a few simple changes, the place could be a lot better.

Any restaurant that calls up a reviewer on help at their place of work to make a COMPLAINT against said person does not deserve your business. Don’t support the scumbag who runs this place, or expect to get lousy and rude service. P. S.- if you, the owner, try to call my place of work and pull the crap you did– you can bet on lawsuit for defamation and slander.

Came here for trivia on Thursday. Maybe it was an off night, but we were no impressed. It was so noisy that we couldn’t hear the trivia questions. Happy hour deals are not great, food and beer is overpriced. $ 15 for a small bud light pitcher. The place looks like it could use a major renovation and it smells kinda funky.

The service was decent and the atmosphere was definitely worth talking about, but my dish — the blackened cajun tilapia — was way too salty and bordered on inedible. I should point out that I am not a fan of salty dishes, so maybe my taste buds were skewed on this dish, but I am trying to not hold it against them. However, other people at the table tried my dish and they too found the dish to be salty and no one wanted to eat it. The appetizers and other plates that were brought out for our staff luncheon were solid, including the calamari and croquettes. Much of the other food ordered was quite good, although a couple of other dishes were a little on the salty side as well. I am willing to chalk up my entrée misfortune to a slip of the hand or an overly sensitive reaction to salt, and would recommend that others try this place for themselves, especially purveyors of salt. I may just be coming back and updating my review accordingly, but I can’t say that I was overly drawn to the idea of returning.

I don’t come here often, but if we’re doing a happy hour after work or one of my buddies ends up planning something here, I’ll usually join in just to grab a drink and socialize. I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad drink here before. Tyler the bartender always hooks it up with great mixed drinks and knows everything about their tap list since he sets it up himself. Along with that, their craft beer selection is pretty solid for a hole in the wall bar, usually stocked with local breweries such as Two Roads and City Steam. The food is just meh, and for a dive bar it isn’t awful, I just wouldn’t come here to sit down for lunch or dinner. Two Steps isn’t bad, just come down for a few drinks and get to know some people.

I have only eaten here once for lunch but they catered my wedding and did an outstanding job. I can’t say enough about how far beyond my expectations they went. Total professionals, attentive, beautiful displays, fairly priced and excellent food. Not one single complaint from beginning to end.

Recently had my friends bridal shower here in a private room upstairs. While the food was mediocre, the staff was very pleasant and helpful. They were attentive and polite which made the day even better.

What a disappointment! Just left there with no dinner. There were two other tables in the whole place and I came in with a party of 9. I should have known when the waiters eyes widened when I said 9. We sat for 20 mins with no one at our table. I went up to the bar to find no one. I waited a few mins and the waiter finally came out to tell me to bare with him since he was the only server on the WHOLE floor. Another 10 mins went by and still no service. What happened to this place? It used to be a good casual place to go to and now it’s just like the rest of downtown Danbury. What a shame!

Outstanding dinner here tonight. We usually go for the quesadillas, but tonight was a special occasion. I had the grilled sea scallops with spinach and mushrooms over Angel hair — it was amazing! My son had the grilled salmon with a honey glaze with rice and veggies. Everything was so fresh and yummy!

We used to frequent Two Steps about 5 or 6 times a year. But with the explosion of other good restaurants in the last five years, it’s now down to once or twice a year. While the food can always be hit or miss, more often a hit, last night was all about a miss. We only went in for appetizers and drinks before a show at the Palace. We ordered wings, half spicy half mild. They came half with sauce, half dry. Those with sauce were pretty good. The dry ones seemed like they were just taken out of the freezer and reheated. Also ordered was the calamari, which we used to think was the best around, but no longer. Again, it seemed like it was thawed and reheated. Lastly, the nachos with chili were the least popular, and barely eaten. Brownish green guacamole on the side, with separate piles of lettuce, tomato, olives and jalapeños. Chili on the side as well. So it’s a pile of tortilla covered over the top with melted cheese and then you choose from the piles to top the tortilla. Not sure if it was supposed to be that way but it just didn’t work. The beer selection was good and the staff, few we saw, were very friendly. There wasn’t much staff to see, since there were maybe two tables of people with two at the bar. What depressed us the most was our memories of better food, lively customers, great beer. It used to be much busier and the lack of patrons in a space so large really added to our depression. So I guess we’ll be back next year, if it’s still open.

On a recent visit I just had the constant feeling that I’d eventually be seen on TV from different angles in the restaurant with a blurred face. It would be one of those restaurant rescue type shows… this place is primed and if I happen to see it on one of those shows I would not be surprised one bit. It is big. Lots of tables. Hardly any butts in those seats. It’s décor is well, hometown Applebees-ish. It’s fine and it accomplishes what you’d expect. They have a program and they’re sticking to it… that’s OK in my book. Cleanliness. It is very clean. My guess is that they have decent shift managers that can corral the not-busy staff fairly well to keep it clean. Speaking of the staff… well, not bad. I’d say disinterested. They would rather be somewhere else. Bar…decent liquor selection, meh wines, the taps are a good mix and have some local beers which is nice. However, pint price is a tad high. Food…There are a zillion things on the menu. Like way too many. It is all over the place. Like you just know by the sight of it that almost everything(protein-wise) was frozen at some point. Very formulaic with the exception of the quesadillas. Execution is fine it is just, well, as a patron, we’ve seen it all before, everywhere. Needs fresher ingredients and much more focus. I guess over all it is just average. It just has this feeling that its best days are behind it and you’re there trying to have a good experience in a place past its prime. I guess this really wouldn’t end up on a restaurant rescue show as there wouldn’t be any drama. Its clean, the people are nice, the food is so-so, the décor is alright… no drama. Its just this hulking restaurant slowly, and sadly, limping along. However, it is in need of a rescue to breath some life into it and make it a place worth going to again.

I was here twice during my visit. The first was after a Whalers(the local hockey team) game, who Two Steps sponsors, and the second was pre-gaming for a Whalers game. I had once thought Two Steps was starting to fade away, but I think the Whalers presence has revitalized them. The place is pretty busy with pre-game and post-game fans. A good chunk of the time, the players come in afterwards for drinks too. During my pre-game visit, I ordered a grilled vegetable salad with their house balsamic vinegarette. I know that it was just grilled veggies with some romaine lettuce and dressing, but it was so very good. I expected small and thinly cut veggies. I was sure surprised when the waiter walked out with veggies on top of my salad that were a good 2 ½ inches in diameter. Two Steps has been a staple in downtown Danbury for as long as I can remember. Located in a converted firehouse quite literally in Citycenter, Two Steps is a place that almost everyone that I know has eaten at least once. They get one star in my rating for being one of two bars that I know in the Greater Danbury area that serves Magner’s Irish Cider.

You know, Two Steps probably would have earned full marks back in the 1990s… It’s a bit of an aging codger now, but its still got some good things going for it. I’d defintiely call it a fun place; bars upstairs and downstairs, a good menu, and attentive bartenders. Three cheers for the happy hour, in which they have DOLLAR appetizers and cheap beer! now that’s a value. And the food you get is pretty good. I’ve had good wings, quesadillas, even pasta dishes here, It’s not must have food in downtown Danbury, but it’s a solid bet almost every time you go. Slight criticism for the fact that this place claims to be a Tex Mex restaurant, but seems to have mostly non-Tex Mex things on the menu. I guess it’s no big deal; just an identity crisis I guess. Given the fact that Two Steps has been around a while, it’s now a bit too big for its own good. Still, I’d give it a whirl if you’ve been to every other restaurant in Danbury. A nice choice.
