For cafeteria food, Coutons is pretty bomb. They’ve improved a significant amount from when they first opened. The salads here are better than Pluto’s and costs less. Make your own salad: – choose from romaine, spring mix, or spinach(can’t decide? just mix & match or pick all three!) – choose 7 add ons included in the price(there are so many that I can’t even list them all for you. I will tell you what I put in my salad though. Tangerine oranges, cucumbers, green onions, parmesan, chopped egg, bell peppers, & more parmesan cheese!) – choose a salad dressing(you have eight to choose from, and i always mix and match. my favorite combo is their italian with some honey mustard. you get to control how much dressing they put in their so it’s like making your perfect salad without actually having to do the labor of washing, chopping, and preparing!!!) – croutons(sooo much flavor in them! i really think this is what makes the salad, haha!) This establishment is a break-even business, and for the quality of food that they provide, let’s just say, I am very impressed.

Croutons is an extremely solid choice amongst the dining options at the Davis food court. You get 7 choices of toppings of your salad, I find that around 5 I start feeling a little overwhelmed and am scraping for the last few options that might fit in the theme I’m working with. All the toppings seem to be pretty standard, nothing real premium here(no more blue cheese, sad face). Protein options are pretty good amongst the typically choices of chicken and tuna salad, they also have a little more variety with salmon and tofu salad.

So the new/old coffee house at UCD opened up again. There is a small food court inside where Croutons is located. Here there are a couple options, either garden salad or ceasar salad. Either option you can chose to add chicken or salmon to. I went with a garden salad with chicke, it cam to around $ 8. This was the most horrible salad I have ever had!!! The lettuce was still wet so there was a small puddle of water at the bottom of my salad. Ther bean mixture includes canned green beans, yuk! There were exactly two small pieces of brocoli. The cucumber was in chunks not slices. The salad was so bad that I picked out the chicken and threw the rest away! Skip this place!!! Plutos is just down the street, or go to the Silo or COHO to go and get a boxed salad which is way better!
