MandRo Teahouse

MandRo is another amazing bubble tea place. Their mango sago, watermelon juice and roasted tea with grass jelly are all amazing.
The mango sago is similar to a mango lassi but not as thick with white boba and the watermelon juice seems to me like it’s blended fresh watermelon.
That’s staff here has always been very friendly so if your in the area and like boba tea definitely check it out!

My friend was gushing about this place SO much that I just had to go. And… she was so right. It’s good boba (compared to the rest of Davis), but it’s in an inconvenient location. Pretty far from everything else, but plenty of parking. Furthermore, the store doesn’t have a big sign in front, which made it hard for us first timers to find it…
I ordered the kumquat lemon basil seed drink with aloe vera (which is an add-​on). It is very refreshing and delightful! The drinks only come in one size and the price is decent. Because we were in a rush, we didn’t get to try the bingsoo on that hot day. I definitely will try other flavors and the bingsoo when I’m in Davis!
One last thing, they accept credit card only on orders more than $ 8. Wish they didn’t do that because I only carry plastic. :/

First time here with a friend and we got the oolong milk tea (80% sweet & 30% ice) and hokkaido milk tea (50% sweetness & 80% ice). Loved the hokkaido milk tea– it’s a must try! The oolong was okay. It had a very strong tea taste.
I would definitely come back to try the other flavors.

Stopped by our beloved college town on the way to Tahoe over the weekend. We wanted to see what Davis has to offer so we opt for the highest review, most hype boba tea place in town. It took us 3 rounds in circles and walking back and forth & some up and down the stairs for 5 – 10 mins before finding this place. Why don’t they have a store sign?
Atmosphere: It looks unfinished. I can sorta see it’s vision and what it wants to look like, it it’s not quite there yet. The flooring and furnitures just doesn’t flow together as it should.
Drinks: I got the Matcha Tea Smoothie with Red Beans (30% sweeten). I liked it! It was refreshing and not too sweet or not too blend. The sweet red beans added a nice touch to it.
My friend got the potted plant milk tea & she wasn’t a fan.

I was in the area and i was debating to try MandRo or Lazi Cow, but i decided to try this place out since their ratings are higher.
MandRo is located inside of Westlake Plaza shopping center and doesn’t have a front sign but it isn’t hard to miss! MandRo is between Family Dollar and Shanghi town. Mandro also serves korean deserts other than bubble teas!
For drinks I ordered a Matcha Macchiato ($ 3.75), Hokkaido Milk Tea ($ 4.00), and Okinawa Pudding Milk Tea ($ 3.75)
Matcha Macchiato– It looks better than it tastes. POWDERY. I can still taste the matcha powder, and it wasn’t blended well.
Hokkaido and Okinawa milk tea– Average. I wasn’t impressed with the milk teas because it had this heavy-​sweet after taste.
Boba– Cooked well and sweet!
My first experience wasn’t so great but I will be coming back to try their non dairy teas!

One of the best boba shops in Davis. Their milk tea is solid and something I generally return too. I really enjoy their macchiato drinks and their kumquat tea. I’ve also had good luck with boba every time I’ve come (no sticky boba, cooked to a good degree). Although it’s not quite as good as boba you’ll find in SF and SoCal, it’s definitely a good one.
I also find the store to be comfortable. Although it’s very simply designed, they have a shelf full of games and a friendly environment.

The drinks here remind me of purple kow kind of. But I would say this milk tea place is better than the other ones in Davis.
You can never go wrong with their mango green tea here! It seems they don’t put a lot of ice in it and the sweetness level is just right. All of their drinks that I have tried never disappointed me so far!
I also tried their strawberry and mango bingsoo. The mango bingsoo is much better! On the srawberry bingsoo, they have two mochi pieces which taste gross but that’s just me. My friends and I ordered both small and we couldn’t even finish them! There were 4 of us, and I think one bingsoo is already enough to share.

The taste of milk tea always changes, but for this place its always great! This place is slightly hidden only because it doesn’t have a huge sign, but its fairly big on the inside. Minus 1 star because there is a minimum charge for card, but thats not really an issue.
I got the plant milk tea and it was great. The pearls were perfect and the milk tea itself was fresh tasting. I loved it all.

For Davis, MandRo Teahouse is most likely the best boba place around.
For boba in general? Well, the bay area has been graced with so many good spots that my hubby and I weren’t TOO impressed, but we definitely lamented about how this place wasn’t around when we were Davis undergrads.
In terms of design, MandRo doesn’t use up a lot of its space. It just felt too open and voices were loudly bouncing off the walls. But considering the number of groups there, it is definitely a common hang out spot for Davis students. The selection of drinks were pretty extensive which included ice milks, smoothies, fruit teas, and milk teas.
Per usual, my hubby and I always go for the basic teas on our first try so he chose the roasted milk tea with egg pudding and I got the jasmine milk tea with egg pudding. There is a minimum $ 8 charge for any credit card use and since our total came out to $ 7.60, we had to pay in cash.
Our drinks came out fairly quickly and from appearance, they looked pretty good. My hubby took the first sip and instantly he said, «It’s not the best, but it’s not bad.» So armored with that opinion, I took a sip of mine and quickly thought the same thing. MandRo’s milk teas are a lot creamier and the tea-​flavor itself isn’t very strong. The egg pudding had a strange coconut-​undertone, but still very smooth. Overall, it was just okay.
While we both finished our drinks, we can’t say MandRo is spectacular when compared to bay area boba, but for Davis, it is definitely a stand-​out spot. Most likely we won’t come back because of the distance, but we definitely recommend it to all Davis residents!

Out of all the boba places I’ve had in Davis, Mandro does it best and has the flavors I really enjoy. Some time back like maybe half a year or so, I had tried their regular pearl milk tea because my friend got me one, and at the time I thought it was fairly decent and the pearls were good, but today, I got the chance to try it fresh for myself.
As with most boba places, I try to get two different drinks whenever it’s my first time for some reason, so I went for the oolong milk tea and brown rice green milk tea, both 30% ice, regular sweetness, and with pearls. I had come with a fairly big group of friends, and Mandro was already crowded, so I had to wait a bit to get my drinks, but oh oh boy were they worth the wait.
For me, the oolong milk tea had just the right blend of tea to milk. The oolong flavor was strong, but I still got the creaminess, and then the pearls had the best flavor compared to those from other Davis boba places I have been to. I saved my brown rice green milk tea for a few hours later, but when I dug in, the tea still had a really nice flavor. The ice had melted, so yes the flavor was a bit diluted, but the rice flavor was still there, and it added a nice subtle background flavor to the green milk tea.
When I was still inside the store, some of my friends had ordered the mango bingsoo, and I got to try some of it. It was a wonderfully balanced sweet and icy dessert, and the mangoes on top tasted super fresh. Another drink a few of my friends got was the kumquat lemon basil seed. This drink is definitely on the sweet side, so I’d recommend getting it 50% sweetness, but it’s super refreshing and the citrusness really comes through.
Overall, Mandro makes some great drinks and boba. I haven’t tried everything on their menu, but it seems like you can’t go wrong with anything, and the price is reasonable. They offer a stamp card with buy ten get one free. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a boba fix in Davis.
Edit/​Update/​PS: I ended up coming here three days in a row, and I tried a different drink each day. Mandro, you’ve taken a bit of my heart. How is it that everything I tried was delicious!!! Their Hokkaido milk tea is BOMB, and it comes with pudding and boba. My friend got a Mango QQ, and it’s pretty mango-​y and refreshing and comes with a variety of toppings. Another group of friends got some of Madro’s bingsoo (aka korean shaved ice), and it was also yummy. The texture of the ice was really nice, light, and flaky. They had gotten the mango bingsoo, and the mangoes were super fresh tasting. I think it’s also topped with some kind of condensed milk sauce, because it has the flavor of condensed milk, but it’s not overbearingly sweet, and it’s a bit less viscous. Next time I’m back in town, I might have to try another bingsoo.

Roasted Milk Tea with pearls: at 50% sweetness. It was OK, if I were to get it again, I think I would get it at 70−100% sweetness. The drink was a bit milky, not very sweet and a bit bland. Since I got it at less sweetness, I was hoping to taste more tea, but it was more milky instead. Granted, if I had gotten it at 70−100% sweetness, it might have tasted better overall.
Iced Milk: Got to try this line of drinks and it was really yummy!!! Quite sweet with buttery smooth milk. Not usually my go-​to type of drink, but it was a nice dessert drink.
It’s nice to have a boba spot in West Davis, but this wouldn’t be my first choice if I needed a milk tea fix.

My favorite drink is their Mango Green Tea with no added sugar. I either get boba or grass jelly (or both if it’s one of those days). My hubby likes their Kumquat Lemon Basil seed, 50% sweet, and grass jelly.
I also like their milk tea and black, green or roasted tea macchiato with lychee jelly (has that layer of salted heavy cream on top). Mango sago is a long time special, I hope it stays as a regular!
They just started serving Korean shaved ice called bingsoo. I tried the injeolmi (soybean powder?) and strawberry, both were very good and enough to share with 2 people (regular size).
While I was on maternity leave, I would grab a drink before or after my afternoon walk! But the walk and the drink cancelled out each other so I didn’t gain or lost weight. Haha
I’ve since moved farther away from MandRo but always make it a point to stop by whenever I’m close by.

Definitely the best milk tea in Davis right now! I remember going when they first opened and they improved a lot. There is a variety of milk tea, fruit tea, and other unique items, so you’re sure to find something that will appeal to you. I usually get the QQ milk tea or QQ mango green tea (I love toppings and their boba is good and chewy) and it never disappoints.
Recently, they added a menu dedicated to different bingsoo flavors and they are amazing. Granted, I only tried the matcha red bean and mango ones, but they are really good! They don’t use shaved ice but instead, milk. So it tastes like a creamy ice cream. They’re also generous with their toppings as they include some extra red bean or mango pieces in the middle.

When I came to visit my brother in Davis, he told me that this was THE best place to get boba.
There was a long line when we came in, and all the tables were taken. I took that as a good sign, and was excited to try it out!
They have a variety of drinks, and their shaved ice (bingsoo) seems to be very popular. I went with the strawberry mojito, but they wouldn’t let me put boba in it… I found that super odd. I was willing to pay the $.50 and add boba to my drink, but they said I couldn’t, because the drink is carbonated. I’ve had carbonated boba teas before and really enjoyed it, so I was disappointed when they literally would not let me put boba in it.
The drink itself was delicious, and not overly sweet. (It would’ve been better with boba, just saying). But my brother got Hokkaido milk tea, which came with boba and pudding, so I got to try the boba out. It was perfectly chewy and not overly sweet either. The milk tea was delicious as well!
If I were ever back in Davis, I would definitely come here for my boba fix.

MandRo is definitely my go to milk tea place to go to in Davis! I love that they only have one cup size (which is usually a large at various other places), and they have a huge list of drinks to choose from, too!
I usually order the Hokkaido milk tea with egg pudding, matcha macchiato, or their slushies. Overall, I would say all their milk teas are solid! The slushies tend to be on the sweet side, so it’s definitely not a health fruit drink, but it’s definitely something to treat yourself to once in a while.
Although it’s not decorated at all, the place is very spacious and has lots of board games, so it’s a fun place to hang out and catch up with people while drinking some milk tea.
The only downside to this place, I would say, is that it’s located in West Davis, and they only accept card over a certain amount of money, so remember to bring cash if you’re only ordering one drink!

Love this place so much! Definitely my new favorite tea place in Davis.
I have tried the Hakkaido Milk tea with pudding, lemon basil seed kumquat drink, and the mango QQ. I loved all three! It’s going to be hard to try anything else here because I love these so much. The first one is perfect when you’re craving bubble tea– caramel flavored milk tea with pudding. I also added pearl to it because what is bubble tea without the bubbles, right? This drink is delicious, very filling because of the pudding and comes in a large cup! Their pudding is top notch. I highly recommend adding the pudding if your drink doesn’t already come with it. The second time I went here, I tried the lemon basil seed kumquat drink. Doesn’t the name itself sound so intriguing?!? Not gonna lie, it looks like a little weird when it first comes out. I had never seen basil seeds before– they are fuzzy little black seeds. I added grass jelly and pudding to the drink also and everything went together really well. This drink is perfect if you want something refreshing without any caffeine in it. I went for the third time and I was in the mood for dessert. I got the Mango QQ (all drinks with QQ mean that they come with pearl and litchee jelly). This drink is super fruity and desserty in my opinion. The litchee jelly has a bite to it and adds great texture to the drink.
The only thing I would change about this place would be the chewiness of the actual boba. I like my pearls softer than these guys do. Boba here is very chewy. Their drinks taste so good overall though that I’m okay with chewy boba :) They have lots of board games here too. I’d love to come back with a group of friends, get one of their huge desserts to share and play games here!

If I lived in Davis, I would come here all the time.
This place is awesome! It has board games, lots of tables and seats, great menu, good service. I was very happy to find it during my little time in Davis.
Definitely try their shave ice dessert (Bingsoo). I recommend getting the sampler (4 smaller bowls for $ 20), so you can try several flavors. But beware! The bowls are actually quite big. I especially liked the strawberry flavor and the caramel flavor bingsoo.
Their tea is quite good as well. And it’s not super sweet.

I don’t update my reviews much, but I HAD to come back to this review to write about their new product: Bingsoo, Korean shaved ice.
(Granted, I’ve never had bingsoo so I have nothing to compare it to, but I enjoyed it!)
This dish is slightly different than the shaved ice you normally get at Sno-​crave. The texture of this shaved ice is more flake-​y, and a bit lighter in texture. The lightness compliments well with the thick condensed milk they add on.
There are multiple flavors to choose from. There are the standard ones like Original, chocolate, and red bean matcha to name a few. Right now, they have strawberry and mango as seasonal flavors. My boyfriend and I opted for the mango.
The shaved ice was served right away. It was generously topped with mangos and condensed milk. They even added a extra cup of condensed milk on the side in case we wanted it sweeter. The mango were fresh and juicy. Perfect for a hot day and goes extremely well with the bingsoo. The extra condensed milk is a plus because after you dig into the dish, the top layer of condensed milk is gone and all you have left is shaved ice. Having and extra cup of sweetener really makes a difference.
The dish is can fill two people generously. Maybe 3 people if you’re looking for a light dessert. It definitely filled my tummy up.
Definitely coming back next time to try other flavors.

Another good spot for boba in Davis. For some reason, I think the store has a weird smell to it, like when I walk in, I just think to myself, «It’s Mandro.» Anyways, the drinks here are good, I come here for the stamp card, which expire quite quickly actually if you’re not a boba feind like me.
The boba here is really good, always chewy, and sometimes I get the lychee jelly if I’m feeling somewhat healthy.
They have seasonal drinks, which are listed at the register. Over the summer/​into the fall, they had a watermelon slush which is delicious! Yes, I realize it was just watermelon and ice blended together, but it was still good! I caught myself going at least once a week for it…

Man oh Mandro, why you gotta be so far though!!!
Am I a bobaholic? Sadly getting there. I take it back. I feel quite the contrary. Happily sipping these creamy, refreshing drinks since the dawn of my college years. When the fraps from Starbucks turned a bit mundane, and frankly a bit hostile with the wallet, the Asian peeps rerouted the senses to teahouses.

If it’s your first time, I highly recommend the Hokkaido Milk Tea — buttery toffee caramel/​coffee taste that just melts in your mouth like that last scoop of half-​softened ice cream before you run out and regret not buying 2 pints of old fashioned chocolate malt delight.
Don’t pay mind to the lackluster décor. I always feel like I’m visiting a crack fiend’s rented apartment rooming three other dropouts cooking something suspicious in the back… nahh I kid I kid, but seriously whatever it is your doing keep doing it, YOU ARE THE MAN. dro ~
