Positive: friendly desk clerk & low priced rates, decent wifi. Negative: rusted out heater/A/C unit, sticky filthy phone, crooked headboard, burn holes in comforter, red(hopefully pizza sauce) stain on an unwashed blanket, greasy tv remote, small tv with horrible reception, cigarette stained counter, crooked toilet, broken, non-existent towel bar, rusted shower head & handle, stained shower curtain, creaky floor in various spots(room was on the ground floor) and no coffee maker. I felt like I needed to take a shower after being in that environment for 5min. I didn’t want to touch anything. Book a room & see want else you can find.

Oh dear! Oh Dear! Yet another tragedy mystery-book from Hotwire! There is no way this place is two stars, let alone one! This is evident from when you walk into the room and take a whiff of the mildewed green carpet ripped as if Edward Scissorhands had stayed here before you. This is the kinda place serial killers come to plot, where bald-headed 50year old weirdos isolate from their overbearing mothers. Not ideal for cheating lovers, not even if you are cheating with a prostitute(even if you used protection) you’d both end up catching something from the bed or the dirty carpet, synthetic seats, linoleum bathroom, old furniture; creatures and bacteria lurking, just waiting for a pound of flesh to prey on. Luckily it’s so dangerous that police cars routinely patrol around it’s perimeters in case of a gun fight or murder. It’s totally my fault for cheaping out. When I know I’m only going to need a hotel for less than 6 hours due to long drives or early flights, I opt for 2stars to save a bit of cash. When I think two stars though, I imagine a Clarion Inn or a Best Western, not the perfect crime scene location. This place is so ghetto that the shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom came in mustard and ketchup-type packets. The soap did not foam, it was more like rubber. It’s so ghetto they lock the lobby after 11pm and no one is allowed inside so all transactions are done from a drive-by type window; like the kind they have at gas stations after dark when they take precautions not to get robbed. What kind of a hotel does not allow its guests in the lobby??? What kind of a hotel rents out rooms to guests they fear/expect might rob them? America’s Best Value Inn is the answer! To make things worse… Are you ready… BEDBUGS!!! Still crawling all over my body. I have red rashes and itching from my scalp to my back to my ankles. Remember the Itchy and Scratchy show on Nickelodeon?!? Well stay here and have your own Itchy and Scratchy experience!!! When I started itching and scratching like a dog infested with fleas I got out of bed and to no surprise… BEDBUGS everywhere! Little black dots with minuscule antennas all over my clothes and sheets going to town on my skin! I called the lady on duty who came into my room and affirmed that indeed those were bedbugs. Do you want me to bring you clean sheets? She asked. I said, they are not coming from the sheets, they are coming from the mattress. She inspected the mattress and without offering any kind of apology and after being somewhat defensive about the whole thing… like it was my fault the bedbugs were there… she offered to change me to a different room. I kindly declined and at 1:38am asked to check out. She called the manager and even though the room was in disgusting conditions and the bedbugs were confirmed, the manager refused to refund my money(though i’d been checked in to the room for less than an hour). Talk about lack of integrity and just NOT giving a F**k about the customer! I checked out anyway and received no apology from the front desk lady nor from the manager who refused to talk to me directly and dealt with me through the front desk lady as the intermediary. Luckily Hotwire refunded me for the room(as they should have) and they DID apologize for putting me in an uncomfortable dirty room. I ended up driving my rental back to the airport, putting on my eye mask and falling asleep in the backseat cuddled with my pups(who were also scratching and whining). Learned Lessons: 1) even if it’s just for 5hours, it’s always best to pay a bit more for comfort and safety. I ended up getting a terrible nights sleep and now I have to spend the day figuring out how to kill these bedbugs so I don’t take them back to LA with me. 2) Hotwire is a gamble and I don’t like to gamble. They give false information as to the star rating of a hotel and charge you for the printed star rating rather than the actual dump that you are randomly put in. I have been using Hotwire since 2007 and I am an «elite status» customer and even I am not exempt from atrocious rooms, so at this point, after 5 booking in the last week where 4 have been disgusting disasters and the star rating has been off you are better off going through a different site. Maybe Priceline or kayak. With kayak at least you know what you are getting into since you can see the rooms, star ratings and reviews before you book. 3) If you can afford it, never stay at a hotel below 3 stars. it’s not worth it; and the difference in fare is minuscule for the amount of extra comfort and service that you receive. And unless you want to punish yourself or someone else, don’t stay at America’s Best Value Inn!
