We used to go here quite a bit when I was in college. Nowadays. we go to the Eagle Tavern when we visit Greenfield Village. Eagle Tavern has more ambiance and charm. The Taste of History is a cafeteria with tables you can’t linger at. It’s cute but a bit frenetic. I’ve had good meals here and bad ones. When they first started out, they had chicken fricassee and hoppin’ john, railroader’s lunch and other old time specialties. The menu has changed somewhat and is more conventional. The beef in a bread bowl that people talk about reminds me of shepherd’s pie. It is probably a good place for kids who can’t sit still but for adults, I’d go next door. FYI-Greenfield Village is seasonal. The restaurants open April 15 and close at the end of the Christmas season. Call before you make a trip.

This is an especially festive restaurant during Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village. This is probably the 8th year we have gone here for dinner at this occasion. First of all the Holiday Nights experience is fantastic and the Taste of History makes it special. It is cafeteria style, but the seating and service are excellent. Between the four of us we had a lot of what is on the menu. My wife and daughter had the” beef in a bread bowl” and said it was delicious. My granddaughter had the«mac and cheese» and loved it. I started with the butternut squash soup – it is among the best around, and then added a scrumptious hot dog. The ambiance of the place at this time is outstanding and makes a great night perfect. See you next year.

This is a must stop for me when I come to Greenfield Village. They usually have something on the menu that has historical value and is tasty at the same time. This time I had a steak sandwich and«Bubble and Squeak», which isn’t something you see everyday, at least around here. It was excellent. I was tempted at the mountainous beef in a breadbowl, which over half the diners were eating, but I was happy with my choices. There is also a good selection of desserts and other offerings. I am really impressed with how they offer and even promote locally produced items like Faygo Pop and Clancy“s Fancy hot sauce which was unexpected but oh so good. This is a nice stop during a visit to the Village.

A Taste of History is my family’s go-to restaurant for Holiday Nights. This time the restaurant featured hot chocolate with marshmallow vodka. Super YUM! Every time we’ve been, squash soup has been on the menu, and it’s tasty. Another standard is beef in a bread bowl, which my daughter orders every time. Still another is turkey dinner with 2 sides — mashed potatoes, stuffing, or roasted carrots. New this year was a vegan offering: acorn squash filled with wild rice and cranberries. My mom ordered it and confirmed it was as good as it looked. I’m sure we’ll be back again next year. We love this place.

Located between the Martha and Mary Chapel and The Eagle Tavern in the back corner of Greenfield Village sits A Taste of History. It’s a cafeteria style dining restaurant. There are plenty of options to choose from. Menu changes from time to time, but basically you have a selection of sandwiches(hot and cold), dinners, baked goods, sodas and coffee. It really doesn’t have anything to do with history though. If you are looking for historic style foods, you need to go to The Eagle Tavern. The Eagle Tavern? Not for kids folks. A Taste of History? Much better for kids. Here, it’s good for lunch or dinner. Prices are pretty cheap here. One thing I give high marks to The Henry Ford /Greenfield Village is that they don’t gouge their visitors when it comes to food. You know what I mean? Prices are very reasonable which makes you want to try things and also doesn’t leave you with that«I’ve been robbed» feeling. So anyways, A Taste of History is a good place to get a bite to eat and relax, they even have a patio. Check out the cool décor on the walls, it’s very different from any other restaurants décor… Nope sorry I won’t tell what it is, go see for yourself! Happy Eating!
