I want to give Pizza Papalis a better review, I like their spinach deep dish, Philly cheesesteak, calzones… The only problem is that they are not very consistent. I usually have delivery and sometimes the food is undercooked, portions small and they miss whole parts of the order. For the price, one would think they’d do a better job? There’s been 3 separate occasions where I’ve ordered the cheesesteak with fries and there are literally 7 – 10 fries. Same goes for the salads, I’ve ordered dressing only to find that they’ve forgotten to include it. Ive ordered calzones and about half the time, they’re up to par. I’ve had the least amount of trouble when it comes to their pizza but still maybe 3 out of 10 times, the pizza has been really under or over cooked. I really like their food, but for the price, it seems that they often take shortcuts. I’ve tried mentioning nicely the problems I’ve had but i doesn’t seem to make a difference. Also, they recently«changed up their menu» but I have yet to see a new updated menu so it’s a bit difficult to order. I guess in summary, I like pizza Papalis, they just need to work on their consistency Also, it seems that the Dearborn location has closed? Tried to call in an order and the phone just rings, you’d think they’d have a message or something that says they’re closed?

Pizza was only luke warm, crust was super hard and not even buttered. Taste was comparable to a pizza hot pocket. The cheese sticks tasted like the microwave oven ones. This place sucks bad!

The go to place when in Dearborn. Friendly staff, good food, good drink specials. Love the seafood pizza during lent. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it. Love the addition of the great hamburgers to the menu. This is a place you can’t go wrong with.

This was very disappointing. I’m a huge Pizza Papalis fan and we go to the downtown location several times each year. We were craving some good pizza but my husband was hurt and we couldn’t take the trip down where we’d have to walk to get to our cherished pie. Instead I ordered carry out from the Dearborn location and drove 20 minutes each way to get it. The pizza was gross. I’m not sure if it was undercooked or what, but it was very doughy and didn’t have much flavor. I was so bummed that I spent all that time in the car to get sub par pizza.

I decided to give this place another chance after a couple of bad prior experiences, but after my 3rd awful experience I will not be returning. Let’s start with today’s experience. I placed a carry out order over the phone for a small pizza and a philly cheesesteak sub with fries. I was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. When I arrived about 40 minutes later to pick it up, my order was ready, but the philly cheesesteak and fries were completely cold! My guess is they made both the sub and the pizza at the same time and the sub and fries just sat there for the 30 minutes while the pizza cooked. I asked them to remake the sub and fries and they did. I thought it would take 10 – 15 minutes to make the sub, but unfortunately I didn’t see an employee for another 20 – 25 minutes. They were so busy I wasn’t even able to speak to a manager(unless I wanted to wait another 20 minutes and let all my food get cold!). Because of having to wait for the sub to get remade, my pizza got cold. I had to reheat it in the oven(I refuse to reheat a $ 20 deep dish pizza in the microwave, yuck!) and it wasn’t even that great. Most places would have offered to redo the whole order or offer something extra for the inconvenience and extra wait. They offered nothing. 4 months prior, I ordered a carry out and tried some pasta and it was terrible. Too much cheese which made it very greasy. And the garlic bread was hard. The time before that I had the lasagna, also too much cheese and very greasy(and I love cheese!). The sauce on the pasta and the lasagna was pretty good though. After the lasagna order, I called to complain and they offered me a discount off my next order. When I mentioned it the next time I ordered, they said they changed computer systems and had no record of it, so they couldn’t offer me any discount. 3 bad experiences is my max, so I won’t be going back, no matter how good the pizza is.

I have live around here forever and the one pizza place i have yet to try but recently finally did. As far as comparing it overall to chicago style pizza in chicago then yes it would be a bit lower, but as far as chicago style pizza in Detroit/Metro Detroit/whole state of Michigan, this is indeed #1. When I came here on a slow sunday afternoon, I started out with the starter of their wings. I tried the hot bbq and buffalo style and both were equally very very good(i’m not a 100% sure, but i don’t think their fried). For my meal i had a slice of both the pan pizza(Pepperoni) and the stuffed pizza(meat deluxe with garlic). Once again, Both are equally very very good. I know more people know this place for their stuffed pizza, but i actually think the pan pizza is the better of the two here, although its close. Overall for me, this is one of the 5 best pizza places in Detroit/Metro Detroit, and if you are including other pizza places throughout the country, then I would say top 10 – 15 for sure.

Probably the best deep-dish pizza I’ve ever had. Very, very good. And the breadsticks were also awesome. Would definitely go back.

I have done this for carry out, delivery and dine in. All are good options in my book. If you are doing dine in and want a Chicago deep dish call ahead. Otherwise the 30+ minute wait will make you pissy, I have seen it in action here. I can’t expound too much on the food here. I have stuck with pizza or salads. I also have done a soup and salad combo with the minestrone and have been decently happy. My fave salads in here are the antipasto and the Mediterranean(I add beets to it). The Greek is also decent. Always fresh and big portions. They do charge for any extra dressings though so be warned. The pizza is the star of the show. Not quite a match for my beloved Chicago Giordano’s but it is quite good for Detroit. It will feed an army of course, cheesy, heavy and just dense. The sauce is happy and there is always plenty of gooey cheese. If you don’t like Chicago style they do have other options, I don’t recommend them at all but there are other options. Chicago style is just the way to go here. Service has always been friendly and orders are always accurate. Happiness.

Great bar and pizza for a Sunday afternoon meal. Good parking in the back. The pizza is deep dish Chicago style came with a side salad. I also got a cookie cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to top things off. Great meal and cheap prices.

BEPATIENT– the deep dish pizzas all take 35 – 40 minutes. But are SO worth the wait. My husband and I chose the spinash on a Friday night and loved it! We thought we were crazy for ordering a large but it was good lunch leftovers for over the weekend, so it worked. We ordered the medium antipasto salad. That came very promptly and was good– plenty to take home. I loved the house dressing– my husband didn’t it. Worth a try. Pizza Papalis is unique, and it was great to be able to walk in and not have a wait like the Detroit location usually does.

The deep dish is as good or better than any we have had in Chicago. A must stop definitely. Stephanie was absolutely amazing and very helpful with her recommendations.

I absolutely loved Pizza Papalis pizza. I have ordered in-house, delivery, and pick-up many times. Tonight I tried to order pick-up at 9:50pm(according to my cell phone and the various cell phone numbers of my friends here from different carriers). The«manager» Janet told us that they’re already closed because their clock said that it’s after 10pm, even though it was ten minutes ’till. The manager clearly just wanted to close early and get their employees out early. She was also unpleasant about my request to speak to a manager. I worked for Giordano’s in Chicago and I understand employees wanting to leave early, but this deceptive manager really hurts business and it’s sad that a place with such wonderful food would tolerate a manager with such a non-customer-centric attitude. I would have spent decent money on a pick-up pizza if she hadn’t lied about the time. I am adjusting my review because of a deceptive, dishonest manager and don’t plan on eating here again. I guess that means sampling some deep dish pizza from other locations.

I give this place four stars because it is always consistent. Consistency is a huge thing for me, especially when it comes to restaurants that I frequent. This Pizza Papalis location is probably my favorite, because the service is always great. I have been here more than I can count on two hands so I can’t remember exactly how many times I have been to this location, but we usually always get the same server. She is always super polite and she always remembers us. Pizza Papalis always has about a 40 minute wait for your pizza to be cooked but that is obviously because it is a unique deep dish. I never mind waiting because the service is always great and they always let you know that you will have to wait a while for your pizza to be done. This is a very family friendly location and I recommend this place to anyone who loves deep dish pizza! The prices can be a little steep but it is totally worth it. My favorite pizza here is the Papalis Gourmet, it comes with chicken breast(which i usually substitute for pepperoni), garlic, spinach, feta cheese and black olives, super delicious!

We preordered our pizza so we can avoid the 45 min wait. When we arrived it was waiting for us, and I can’t ever go back to eating a regular pizza. I don’t like putting names in my reviews but Jessica has waited on us several times and she’s great! Brings extra napkins, refills, very friendly and welcoming. I have found a server to request and that doesn’t happen too often. They offer a pizza/salad/soup bar for $ 6.99 for lunch, can’t pass that deal up! Best Pizza in Town in my book!

Great lunch buffet(Soup, Salad, Breadsticks, Pizza) at an affordable price… All you can eat! It’s quick, clean and hot… at least when you get there at 11am like my group & I do! The only drawback is that it is only a lunch buffet, so the deep dish traditional Pizza Papalis pizzas are known for aren’t out there, but a smaller, more compact version of the original. So, if you’re looking to try them for the 1st time, and only get the lunch buffet, it is not an accurate experience of how good the deep dish pizza really is… Just keep that in mind…

We got a half-baked VIP special deep dish and it turned out very well. After 15 minutes at 450 degrees the Pizza was hot and delicious. A regular carry out is not hot by the time we get home. So this works very well. Good service and an excellant product. The only drawback to eating in is that the wait can be a little longer than most meals to fully cook this very thick and filling pizza pie. 4 stars.

Plates: Dirty. Had to scrape off food from it when it came out, and so did my wife. Service: Slow. It took about half an hour to get our thin-crust pizza. Atmosphere: Terrible. Loud with voices, with absolutely nothing to dampen it(owing the wooden walls which smelled of old pizza). Food: We had the breadsticks and the specialty spinach pizza. In both cases, I would have been better off buying the equivalent from Aldi for $ 1 each instead of $ 27 — the breadsticks just tasted like bread, not puffy and with barely any flavor. The pizza was somewhat better, but the cheese is tough while the sauce is thin. The toppings just slide off of the crust, which was not very exciting either. Overall, I can’t believe this place has 2 stars, let alone 4. This is easily the worst pizza place I have ever been to, and I will never be back.

My husband and I tried to go to Buddy’s, but we were in a bit of a time crunch and there was a 20 minute wait. We decided instead to head a few doors down and give Pizza Papalis a try. Huge mistake. The place smells horrible, first of all. That weird mixture of old pizza, dirty feet, and nasty carpet that I thought was unique to Chuck E Cheese. Also adding to the Chuck E Cheese-ness of it all was the inordinate number of screaming children all over the place. This seemed annoying at the time, but if their experience was anything like ours turned out to be, it’s totally understandable. We ordered breadsticks and a large, thin-crust, spinach and mushroom pizza. She didn’t ask us if we wanted anything to drink, so we had to specifically mention that we would like some waters. She also brought us plates, both of which had food still crusted on them. My husband was gracious enough to take the one with the mystery brown stain, and left me with the one that was clearly old pizza sauce. The breadsticks came out pretty quickly. They were dense, flavorless sticks of dough that tasted slightly raw on the inside. They were served with a cup of watery tomato sauce and one of weird neon yellow nacho cheese sauce like you’d get on stadium nachos. The pizza took way longer than a thin crust pizza should ever take in a restaurant that isn’t even half full. Maybe 25 minutes. It was really super gross. It tasted like frozen pizza, but not even like a name brand frozen pizza, more like some weird Spartan Store house brand. If you’re old like I am, and can remember the days of eating pizza at school lunch that was made in-house, and not ordered from Dominos or whatever… it tasted exactly like that. This horrible meal cost us $ 27.00, which I realize isn’t super expensive, but for the quality of atmosphere, food, and service… it was way too much. Honestly, this place wasn’t even worth the dollar we put in the meter. Will definitely not be back. Buddy’s is worth the wait… there’s a reason it’s crowded when this place isn’t even at 50% capacity. Oh, and the icing on the cake… as we were walking out, I noticed through the order window two cooks in the back who appeared to be playing catch with a gray wet rag. Sick. Don’t eat here.

Jake and I came here on a Friday night. It wasn’t too busy and the service was good. We started with the garlic cheese bread, and am I glad we did! It was so freaking good. It was flaky, perfectly buttered with a hint of garlic and topped with thick gooey cheese. We ordered the thin crust pizza because Jacob isn’t a big fan of deep dish pizza. Big. Freaking. Mistake. The cheese on the pizza was pretty good, if not a little too thick. The sauce was good, too. But the crust was hard, not crispy… and tasted like cardboard. Pizza Papalis’ thin crust pizza was more horrible than my worst Little Caesar’s Hot n Ready… you know the kind… with the cancerous-looking cheese that’s been sitting under the heating lamp for 20 minutes too long? Yea, it tasted WORSE than that. At least a Hot N Ready has some sort of flavor. This pizza was so flavorless, Jake and I couldn’t even force ourselves to eat more than half of the size small. Like I said, SO glad we ordered the garlic bread… Something had to save that awful pizza.
