Worst customer experience. Very rude and abrupt. They weren’t interested in helping me with any lock concerns. They can make duplicate keys although they are square and ugly.

These people are lightening quick to make a duplicate key and they know what they’re doing too! It took the guy about a minute or so to make 3 keys for me for around $ 6. And, unlike some hardware stores where I’ve gotten duplicates made and then they don’t work very well, the keys from this place worked perfectly upon first try. Not the friendliest of people but they get the job done and are very accommodating.
FYI: $ 15 minimum to use a credit card.

They guys are awesome. They truly helped me out when I locked my keys in my car. They came out quick we super nice and didn’t charge me a whole pay check to get into my car. I highly recommend them.

After dropping off my husband at the airport and arriving home, I realized that he had the house keys and I was locked out for the next few days, until he returned. Rather than camp out on the porch or bust a window, I called Decatur Lock and Key Shop to come rescue me. They arrived about 15 minutes after I called (which, I should note, was at 9 am on a Sunday — not within their normal business hours) and within 70 seconds my door was unlocked and my weekend was saved. The price was SUPER reasonable, and I was so impressed with the service. Will definitely use them again for all my lock needs/​emergencies.

Recommended. My Baldwin back door lock had basically fallen apart inside itself, rendering the door unlockable. Decatur Lock & Key came out the next day, on time, and fixed it even though it required a new spring or two. Reasonable price, given it was after hours.

I have dealt with these folks for some ten years and the experience has always been excellent. Most recently Carl helped me deal with the aftermath of a break-​in and way way beyond any expectations I would have for a service business like this. Highly recommended.

After locking myself out of my home office (after putting all the electronics in it to leave town for Christmas) I wasn’t sure what to do. On one hand, I could just kick in the door and feel all macho, or shoulder my way through the door, but then I’d be out a door and still not know where the key to the lock was. What else could I do? Cut around the doorknob? Also a logical choice, but again, I’d have to replace the door. Finally, it came to me… Decatur Lock & Key (Thanks for the solid reviews, Unilocalers).
I called them up to schedule an appointment for Wednesday morning. He called in the morning and was able to come out earlier than I expected. After quickly popping the lock, I sheepishly asked if he could re-​key it for me. No problem! Took him about 5 minutes. I think he was in and out in about 15 minutes, total.
Great work, inexpensive and he threw in a spare key so I wouldn’t lock myself out again. Now to not leave the keys in the office.

If every service company we dealt with were as professional and helpful as Decatur Lock and Key this would be a better world. Since returning to ATL from NOLA in 2005 we’ve had a couple of occasions to use the services of Decatur Lock and Key.
First, Dave made us a set of keys for our home back in NOLA (which we were selling) in 2005 after another lock company made us a set which didn’t work.
The locksmiths at Decatur Lock and Key have helped us secure both homes we’ve lived in since we moved here. And Dave helped us to open a safe which was installed in our ATL home. We didn’t have the combination, the lock didn’t work. He found us another lock for the old safe and installed it.
The walk-​in service is friendly and efficient. We took advantage of running errands by later dining nearby in Downtown Decatur.

Best customer service experience I’ve had in a LONG time.
I came here to get a copy of a key made. I had gone to Lowe’s three times and none of their keys worked. Dave took my key (I didn’t even have to take it off my key chain) and within 30 seconds handed me my copy. It works like a charm.
Then we just chatted about Decatur. I was getting a key made because I just moved to the area. He welcomed me and told me about some great places to check out whenever I was in town.

Quick, courteous, and reasonably priced house call. Plus the locksmith dealt with my cranky Baldwin with a smile.
24 hour emergency service (let’s hope you don’t need it).
I was hesitant to call – now I’m thinking about other random locks I could have rekeyed just for Ss&Gs.

One roommate moving out, another moving in means I needed to make another key to my apartment. Decatur Lock & Key helped me out with key duplication last fall upon the arrival of roommate 1, providing fast and pleasant service. It was a no-​brainer that I would return to them to make roommate 2’s moving in smoother!
Decatur Lock & Key is located in a converted house across the street from Taqueria Del Sol. If you park on that side of the street, take full advantage of the pedestrian crosswalk in front of Decatur Lock & Key. Make the cars wait for you =)
The inside of the store is a little bit creepy – there are at least three taxidermied animals and four fish mounted on the walls and it smells a little «old» inside. But the owner and master locksmith Carl (I know his name because of the many awards, certificates, and newspaper clippings also displayed around the store) is extremely friendly and gets the job done promptly and for $ 1.80 a key.
I haven’t needed to utilize more locksmith services than key duplication, so I can’t speak to personal experience to evaluate Decatur Lock & Key. But from my limited interaction with the store and its owner, I’m a fan!
