Good Location, Decent Food. I lived right on Lucinda, and when I got a hankering for chinese, Great Wall was the place to go. Nothing fantastically flavorful, but good prices and decent food. I want to give it 4 stars, but that little boy(owners son) was extremely annoying when I used to order.

We took my mother here for Mother’s Day, this is one of her favorite restaurants. It’s been around for a long time, but I never remember it when we talk about going out. That will change now. When we were there the service was fantastic. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. We never waited long for anything and he checked on us a reasonable amount of times. We couldn’t have been happier with the service. The food was pretty good too, depending on what you ordered. We all had the egg drop soup and we thought it was okay. We were also given complimentary crab ragoons for the table. They were pretty good. My Father had the Sweet and Sour pork that he loved. My mother had the Sweet and Sour Shrimp, which she loved, it’s her favorite. My son had the chicken fried rice which was okay, nothing great, not bad. Just your standard fried rice. I had the Princess Chicken(Kung Pao Chicken) and I thought it was bland. I’ve had much better at other restaurants. This is not a slam on The Great Wall, not all places make all of their dishes the same and I prefer it elsewhere. It didn’t taste bad, but wasn’t what I was expecting. My wife ordered the Mongolian Beef and she had a mouth-gasm. Many years ago I introduced her to Mongolian Beef at Yen Cheng’s. She loved it and we would order it for take-out monthly. They went out of business and she never found another place that made it like they did. After years of lamenting the loss of her favorite dish, she found one that was almost exactly the same here. It was the best unintentional mother’s day gift ever! The restaurant itself was clean. It had that cheesy Americanized Chinese atmosphere with the cliché decorations and drinks. If you’ve been into one Chinese restaurant, you’ve been in this one. I will say that it seemed larger on the inside that what it appeared. They are located right on State Street. This can make getting in and out difficult if the traffic is heavy. If you’ve ever driven on State Street most evenings and weekends, you know what I mean. Trying to take a left out of the parking lot can be just about impossible.

This place used to be amazing in my first 3 years of college but not that I’m in my senior year and the owner has changed. it’s lost its touch. We ordered about a month ago(on a not so busy Tuesday) and it was just a complete and utter disaster. My roommates and I ordered delivery and the woman on the phone said 20 minutes and hung up. no total given. After 30 minutes, I called and asked if our order was on its way and what the total would be, a man answered this time and just said 10 minutes, 40 bucks, bye. At an hour wait, I called again to ask if our food was actually coming, the woman answered and told me the delivery boy left a while ago and«had other orders to worry about». At an hour and 20 I called to cancel our order because we were just going to go grab subs and I was put on hold for 3 – 4 minutes before the woman told me the driver was outside my home with our food. She then hung up and we paid for our food, which tasted as if it had been hanging out underneath a heating lamp for a while and had gone a bit soggy. Mind you, the food tasted okay minus the temperature, but for the money we ended up paying, the time we spent waiting, and the total lack of service recovery by the employees. makes it not worth our time to check them out again… My suggestion, just go to China House Buffet if you want good Chinese food and just stick to Happy Wok if you just want a quick Chinese food fix.

I’ve eaten at this place for lunch every Monday and Wednesday for roughly the past month. The interior is nothing special but it’s clean. There are quite a few outlets along the wall if you want to plug in your laptop but there is no WiFi(understandably). As someone else mentioned, it appears to be family owned and every member chips in. The only downside is like any family there are arguments and this means you’ll often yelling if you choose to eat there.(in Cantonese I assume) None of is particularly angry though and I like the«family» vibe it gives off so it’s a comfortable place to study. Finally, I can’t comment on the food much as I haven’t eaten at a lot of Chinese places and tend to stick to the cheaper plates. Also, I’m a creature of habit so once I find something I like I won’t stray from it. As a result, I’ve only had their Chicken Lo Mein, Beef Lo Mein, and House Special Lo Mein. All of them have been great and if you choose to eat in-shop they’ll pile your plate high with food(and that’s just the small size).

As a broke college student, this place was heaven for me. The lunch buffet was reasonably-priced. Dinner combinations are amazing; for about $ 7 – 8 you get an entrée, rice, soup, and an egg roll that lasted 3 meals. The best food there is the sesame chicken, hands down. I’ve eaten at dozens of Chinese restaurants(both high and low quality) and nothing matches Great Wall’s version. This is one of the few places I miss in DeKalb.

Best Chinese food in DeKalb. Average to good crab rangoon. Clean, family run restaurant with an impressive lunch buffet. Always get the Broccoli and Baby Corn vegetable combo for takeout. Delicious full flavor in concentrated sauces best mixed with rice or noodles. No overbearing stale grease flavor.
