Was I impressed? No Was the food edible? Sure Is it a truly French restaurant? No After being seated we were given a stack of menus. Each had a different promotion. We ordered off the Winter 2015 menu even though it was 2015. Same fixed price but just $.01 more than the previous year. Onion soup was ok. Pasta with seafood was doable but not spectacular. Crème brûlée was the highlight. This place was also fairly quiet compared to neighboring restaurants. Time to explore other choices.

Mediocre at best. Escargot was tasteless. Onion soup I could get at Ruby Tuesday. A major disappointment

It seemed like nice spot for lunch on a weekday so my friend and I stopped in for a glass of wine, salad. D crepes. The waitress was lovely and took our order quickly and brought us our work e and a lively salad immediately. Then came the disaster. My friend urged me to bite into my crêpe it was so sour! Imefoble as was hers. Left such a nasty taste in our mouths! Either the eggs or the cream had gone bad. We called our waitress and quietly and politely told her our problem. She askked if we would like to. Choos a different kind of crêpe from the menu and we did. Within minutes, the nasty owner came over to our table, denying vehemently that NONE of his crepes was sour and that we should get out of his restaurant immediately! We were trying to be quiet and discreet and save him embarrassment and he was railing against us! We poid for wine and salad without finishing either and left stunned and hungry! I hear the food is pretty good most of the time but the owner can be a Nazi.

The sign outside says Carpe Diem. Went for lunch. We were early 12:00pm we were the only ones in there.. The server was ok. Not social, at all. Ask us three times if we we’re ready finally we told him. He told me that it came with a salad, I asked dressing, he told be Balsamic vinegar. I asked if there was anything else. I was told no but there was a raspberry sauce but to sweet.?but I choose that and it was very good. Then a couple came in and she got a Lemon, honey vinaigrette. Really food was Ok look

Nice seating area out on their balcony with comfy couches and pillows. They played music and the overall atmosphere was nice; it’s a great spot for people watching since its right on Atlantic. Loved their Sunday brunch menu which had omelettes, crepes, croissants, mimosas etc.

I would give it a 4 star. Food was good and waitress very nice. However, the happy hour menu very misleading. Careful you get a appetizer, entry and dessert for $ 32. However right below in entrees they also have entrees that have an additional $ 6. For many people it would read you get one entry for $ 32 and for an extra $ 6 you get an additional entry. NO luck what it really means is that this entry is extra $ 6 and you pay $ 38 for a full set meal. For a group of 4 we ended up paying for 5 full set meals and another separate sandwich entry. Probably happened to quite a few customers, as the waitress did not say anything about the numerous entries. Also even though we paid for 5 full set meals we only ordered 3 appetizers. The waitress did not tell us that we still had 2 more appetizers to order. She just said to us «you only have 3 appetizers?»

Tried this place and I am glad I did. Food was excellent WILD salmon was delicious, roasted braised lamb shank best we ever had. Can’t wait to go back and try out the desserts. Quaint quiet place, very pleased with the appetizers as well. Inside outside seating… bar area too.

Love this restaurant! We were here for Happy Hour this week and prices and the selections are amazing! Best flatbread pizza we’ve ever had. The cheese platter was so wonderful! My husband, not a big cheese fan, could not keep his hands off the cheese. The wines-by-the-glass selection are very good. Friendly and efficient wait-staff make this a truly memorable experience. We will be back!

Well, well, well! I have to admit, it has been a long time since I’ve dined at a «French restaurant.» That said, I left with a full tummy and feeling quite happy if I do say so. The complimentary bread was really great. The crust was perfectly crispy. I think we went through three or four baskets between four of us! We had two appetizers: Coquille Saint Jacques and Foie Gras. I would give them both a four-star rating. Rich in taste and presented very nicely. As I mentioned, we had four people in our party, so I had the opportunity to try a variety of food. Personally, I ordered the lobster ravioli and had the chicken kabob added to it(rather than the shrimp kabob). The raviolis were large and filled! The sauce was creamy and delicious, and the spinach was awesome. The kabob was a great addition to the meal… I am glad I ordered it. One of the people at our table ordered one of the specials… it was a chicken gnocchi with a vodka-type sauce. I have to say, his was ABSOLUTELYOUTOFTHISWORLD. The duck was also very good, and the veal schnitzel was good. I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the sides I tried…(risotto, quinoa salad, potato gratin). We finished off with desert… we had the profiterolles and the chocolate fondant, and I thought they were decent. We will go back!

I got a kick out of reading the other reviews for this place, especially the guy from Manhattan, who was saying Café de France’s cordon bleu was better French food than places such as NY’s Bernardin. I got news for you, guy. CHICKENCORDONBLEUISN’T FRENCH! ITWASINVENTEDINAMERICA!!! Guess he probably prefers American food to French. This restaurant serves food meant to appeal to Americans. It is no more French than it is anything else. I had their Croque Monsieur. First of all, it was 85% brioche, and by that I mean in total volume. So strike one. Then it had cheese on some of the brioche, but not all of it. And it was cheap Swiss cheese. Strike two. Then it had packaged cheap deli ham in it. Strike three! No frying or broiling, no butter. Bleah. The booze list was depressing. I decided to have the special Bloody Mary. BTW, THATAIN’T FRENCHEITHER! But it was ok. Folks, maybe some of the dishes are actually close to French, but please don’t come here expecting«French» food. Expect cheap American food with a French«flair». The waitress was Romanian. Not French. She was efficient and friendly. The hostess was Indonesian? Not French. The french fries(not French either, the french fry is claimed to be invented by the Belgians, who of course live next door to France, so close one there!) were decent.

I’ll get straight to the point. It looks great from the outside and the inside for that matter. The food is par worthy. it’s not very French at all. Just because you put a quasi creative sandwich on a French baguette doesn’t make your restaurant French. This place lacks real French cousine. In all fairness I have to inform you that the chicken condon bleu is the most fantastic thing on the menu. However, that sandwich on its best day is average at most of the other restaurants on the Ave. Sorry Café. You aren’t that great.

The food is pretty good, but the dessert is really amazing. If you love chocolate, definitely try the chocolate fondant. The reason I had to give it three stars is for the menu price tricks. We got there by 6pm so we had the sunset menu and 2 for 1 drinks. Beware: the 2 for 1 special is not per check but per head. Also, although it doesn’t say it, the onion soup is an additional $ 2 on top of the menu price. When we got our check we thought this was a mistake. We asked our waitress, and she said even though it only said +2 by the escargot, it’s actually for the onion soup as well.

I couldn’t have asked for a better Birthday dining experience! This is the second time I have visited Café de France and they did NOT disappoint. This time around I tried a number of items and all were cooked to perfection and very flavorful indeed. Appetizers: Escargot and Bruschetta trio The escargot came out piping hot with the right amount of garlic and spices, so good in fact I had to use the bread to soak up the rest of the goodness when i was done with the dish! The Bruschetta was equally tasty offering 3 cheese toppings, goat, bleu, and brie. Each set had additional toppings that complimented the rich cheeses to perfection. Entrees: Full Rack of Lamb and Del Mar Risotto Definitely get the full rack, its just the right amount of meet with an amazing herb rub. I am a big fan of mashed potatoes but this last version did lack the full flavor I prefer. The julienne cut squash was a very nice addition to the plate. The Risotto was delish and the seafood, mussels and large shrimp, were ideally tasty. It is a very rich dish so i was more than happy to take a small bit home to r reminence over such a great meal later on in the week. Wine: To compliment the meal we added a bordeaux blend that truly did enhance the taste of the risotto without a doubt. Not too dry and extremely smooth. Dessert: As an encore the waitress was kind enough to bring out a strawberry tart for me as a Bday dessert. I am not much for tarts but is was the perfect light bite to end such a fabulous meal. The service was excellent and very helpful with the menu selection descriptions. This is one French/European cuisine stop I will keep on my short list. Bön appetit!

Been wanting to go here for awhile, and finally made it with some visiting friends of ours. Something to note — they are now called Carpe Diem, but it’s all the same place. We settled in at one of the tables outside. I really wished they had seating down on the sidewalk(I thought they did in the past, no?), but nevertheless, we were still outside and could people watch. In the next 10 days, they are expanding and planning to open more outdoor seating around the corner. I ordered the Provencal sandwich which was tasty, tasty, tasty! My husband had the special quiche with onion soup, which was surprisingly vegetarian! Usually French onion soup is made with a beef/chicken broth, but this veggie broth was a HIT for us! The quiche was a bit over-the-top with the spinach, be he liked it nevertheless. For $ 10-$ 12 you can get a great sandwich, soups, and quiche, but if you’re looking for an entrée salad or crêpe, plan to spend $ 14-$ 18, which are typical French fare prices. For me, I loved being served by a French waiter and experiencing a meal that really took me off the Ave and into France. I’d dine here again for lunch in a heartbeat!

I hadn’t intended to go here, but(long story) stumbled onto it while browsing my way down Atlantic Avenue. From the outside it looked good, the blackboard on the street had some interesting specials listed, it’s French, has some pretty good Unilocal reviews(no agreement of Unilocalites could be wrong), so why not? I was there for lunch, found the place to be on the small side and rather cramped, particularly the bathroom which is only one room, unsex, which can end you up with a long, tedious wait because, as you wait, you’ll be standing right smack in the middle of the busy entrance way to the restaurant and the patio. Ugh! That problem aside, it’s a rather charming restaurant, or should I say bistro? It’s clean, well decorated, nice table cloths, glasses, comfortable seats, good ambiance, and well decorated. They’ve even done those usually horrid suspended ceilings in a dark paint with a little gold fleur de lis pattern. The menu, though somewhat limited, is adequate, encompassing a good offering. However, I would strongly suggest that you inquire of the wait staff prior to ordering as some of the menu items are not accurately set forth on the menu. For example, certain items from the oven though from the oven are sandwiches but listed under hot items rather than sandwich items. The flavors of everything I had, such as the chicken salad sandwich and the eggplant with cheese & etc. sandwich were clean, crisp and well balanced. The food items were also reasonably priced for Delray though I found the house wines running about $ 11 a clip to be rather high but very good. I also enjoyed the choice of indoor or outdoor seating, finding either seating arrangement more than suitable.

We weren’t intending on going here. Cuban food was on the menu, but it wasn’t in the cards, so across the street we went to check out the menu to Café de France. The guy at the front desk was charming and made us feel welcome immediately. Despite it’s small size, we only had a short 5 minute wait for a table and we were consistently updated about the party we were waiting to leave. Once seated, the service was impeccable. We all got the prix fixe, Royal Menu… and each course was perfectly timed. I had Coq Au Vin, French Onion Soup, and Crème Brulee for dinner… I could outline it for you, but I won’t. It was ALL excellent. Café de France earned it’s five stars on every level. I highly recommend it.
