I’m not really into bar scenes, but this one is very relaxed. Lots of tables and they have coffees and food. I’ve tried some of their paninis and they’re pretty good. Iced green tea is good as well. Bonus, they have free wifi, so occasionally when other places are too crowded this can be a good place to study, just make sure you avoid open mic night if you want a quiet atmosphere– the speakers tend to be up pretty loud and you can barely hear even people sitting right next to you.

Good place for chilling and have a beer w some cardinal sin soup. Music is interesting kind of folksy most of the time.

Food is always delicious. The atmosphere is great. Nice quiet place to come when there’s not concerts going on. Wide selection of beers. Only flaw is that the food takes FOREVER to make. Simple sandwiches on the menu, very few ingredients. Every time I have come there has been no one waiting for food and not busy and it still takes up to an hour to get a sandwich. Budget 30 – 45 if you want to get your food and not be late to a meeting.

Banter is a great place to chill, to have a meal, and/or to get some work done. The live music, food, and ambiance give this place a special kind of charm, that is definitive of Denton’s. Banter embodies all of the good things that Denton has to offer.

We found Banter on Unilocal… thanks again, Unilocalers! We enjoyed our meals and the service was friendly and timely. Free Wi-Fi. Local beers on tap, but they have everything else in bottles. It seemed to be mostly college age kids on laptops at lunchtime when we were there, but we did not feel out of place at all.

I must say, this place has great food. And it’s chill. I mention the food first because I was pretty suprised when I order a sandwich and it was delicious. Unlike other coffee places in Denton this place makes good coffee and good tasty food. Also, the music here isn’t blasting or obnoxiously loud. The volume is set just right. Love that!

Loved Thursday night open mic night. There are some seriously talented people up there. Each one gets 10 minutes or two songs, and I could have easily listened to more. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. Brick walls and wood tables and chairs keep things casual. The bar is where you will find the menus and the order line. Place your order, and then go find a table and enjoy the chips and salsa, the humus, the vegan items, as well as many, many other options. Love their menu. Located just a half block from the Denton old courthouse, the neighborhood seems family friendly, charming, and safe.

Went last night & liked the atmosphere. Had the southwest wrap & it was pretty darn good. Staff arw über helpful with picking food & cool different beers. Had one that has coriander & lime that was refreshing & light & im usually a dark beer gal … ill be back but maybe before the live music starts. It was kinda loud & hard to order but rhe crowd seemed pretty chill. I just grabbes food drank a cold one & had to split, but I plan on going back & hanging for a little bit.

Awesome selection of food and beer. Coffee is available too. Very relaxed feel. Live music some nights, which makes for a fun(though not study-friendly) environment.

Banter is amazing in every way. They have a bottomless coffee option for somewhere around $ 3.00 which is great along side their free wifi. They also have a really detailed menu — bagels, sandwiches, vegan freeto chili pie, and a ton more. Plus a wide variety of beer and wine. They also have open mic on Thursday at 8:00pm which is always really fun. It’s pretty quite during the morning/afternoon and is great for long hours of studying, editing photos, reading, etc. It really livens up at night though! The only thing I’d want to change is their opening time — they don’t open until 10:00am which is sometimes later than I want to get started on my editing. Aside from that, everything is wonderful and the employees are all super nice and easy going! One of my favorite coffee shops in Denton.

Lovely venue for live jazz, different teas, craft beer, and wine. Fun, and relaxing for myself and friends. Many ppl even bring the kids in for the live jazz bands. The food is fresh and healthy and pretty tasty.

Great vegan options, and they offer gluten free cider. Best of both worlds. They also have bands play here although I haven’t seen many myself. We’ve had Denton Veg meetups here and they have been very welcoming. Love the vegan frito pie!

Decent coffee but I definitely wouldn’t bother going for the food. Over priced and uninspired.

Great Denton spot. Live music on weekend nights. Great study/read spot during the middle of the day. They have transitioned a bit more into the music venue. But still have nice selection or beer. Haven’t tried the espresso or coffee drinks. But the food is usually very good and well prepared. Great pita and hummus.

This place is one of the greatest coffee shops to go to in Denton! I love their coffee and the food is great and healthy! Every day on the weekends they have great bands play or comedians! It has a great feel to it. I promise you won’t be disappointed

Though I rarely check-in when I come to study at Banter, you should know that I’ve been here no less than 100 times. It’s a wonderful spot for graduate students and older Denton folks to meet to study or grab a bite or enjoy live music and poetry readings. I say graduate students because it’s a little too eclectic for the undergraduate scene in Denton.(Thankfully, a place for the grownups!) The coffee and craft beer selections are nice. I typically order the Gobbler which is a fantastic, toasted, turkey sandwich slathered with this jalapeño-berry dressing and topped with cheese and greens. It’s wonderful. If I’m only needing a snack, I get the pita and hummus — also quite tasty.

The concrete floors and wood chairs signals a local coffee house where eccentric. Conversations echo about the room from tense erudite philosophy students to lyrical gossipy older women to tattooed hipster studs. The enigmatic simple lesbian barista pointed out the $ 3 minimum credit card charge and when I shrugged she charged me the $ 1.50 and suggested I leave a tip to meet the minimum charge. Oh how I remember the economical hardships of an edgy small college town. Like maybe being in a scene from«Slacker» I did my own thing and skipped the sandwiches. Draft beer, wine, sound stage, loose rules.

For someone who doesn’t live in Denton(my brother does) I sure have been to a good amount of the eating establishments in the downtown area. Banter is first and foremost a bar, but they make some really good and interesting sandwiches. Or at least the one I had was good and interesting. I wanted to get a sandwich to take with me on the airplane home. My brother had heard good things about this place but had never been. This was as good a reason as any to make the drive over. We were just there to get sandwiches and get out. It was early afternoon and there were a few people inside on their computers with their cups of coffee and such. We sidled up(that’s what you do in TX) to the bar after looking at the menu that was posted on the outside of the place. I ordered the Gobbler($ 7.99). Whole Wheat Bread dressed with homemade Cran-Raspberry Jalapeño Cream Cheese, stuffed with melted Swiss, Smoked Turkey Breast, Red Onion, Avocado and Spring Mix. These sandwiches aren’t huge, but they certainly aren’t small either. The woman behind the bar who made the sandwich brought it out in a container that I knew wasn’t going to work for the trip I had ahead. I asked if she had any tin foil and she happily removed the sandwich from the container, wrapped it in tinfoil as well as a plastic zip lock bag. It was very nice of her to do that. I ate the sandwich a few hours later and it still tasted very fresh. I’m not really a cream cheese fan, but the raspberry jalapeño part caught my attention. It wasn’t caked on the sandwich and that was a good thing for me. Would like to see how this place is as a bar. Might have to check it out the next time I visit my brother.

I’ve heard of Banter living in Denton, usually related to sandwiches. Some people swear by Banter, some by Weinberger’s as the best sandwiches in Denton. I will admit to being in the Weinberger’s camp. Heck with over 100 to choose from… well, another story for another time. This is Banter’s time. Banter is an art house type bar that you could replant in Soho in New York City. Art, illustrations and music related photos a strewn about all over. Couches, chairs and tables and neon beer signs about. Just add some laid back music and you’ve got a winner. I was here just to get a sandwich to go. So as for the live music aspect of this place, I can’t say… maybe another time. As for the food? I had the sublime melt. It’s a pretty good sandwich. Cheddar, Swiss, and Provolone Cheese melted on Smoked Turkey, topped with Red Onion, Spring Mix and Dijon Mustard on Ciabatta(Borrowed from their website). There were plenty of options including wraps and veggie items. It was a good sandwich. It wasn’t out of this world, or make me want to go back there tomorrow, but I will venture in there to hear some music and enjoy a beverage.

Banter had a really cute atmosphere. It’s half bar half café and they have such a variety of food. Everything is hand made right there when you want it so it takes a little longer. The cashier I had was so nice, and was very accommodating to my indecisiveness. I ended up getting the pita chips and hummus as an appetizer, and the Raybecca sandwich with a side of couscous! WHATOTHERRESTAURANTGIVESYOUCOUSCOUSAS A SIDE?! It was great. I really want to try everything on the menu :)
