Welcome to El Azteca, where we make our breakfast burritos with CRINKLEFRIES. Seriously?! What a joke.

I have ate here about 5 times. The soda fountain seems to always be out of order and the carne asada seems to taste like it came out of a can. I have exhausted my taste buds here.

This place is disgusting. I ordered a vegetarian azteca burrito and it was just gross. The pile of green stuff is not guacamole, its something else. It was half sour cream inside. I tried to eat a little bit of it until I felt sick. Its probably from how old /gross the ingredients are.

Fast, cheap, pretty good Mexican food. This is a perfect«go-to» if you work downtown and just want to get out and get something fast.

I love the breakfast burritos here especially because of the hot sauce that comes with them, and have been eating a few per month for the past 7 months. But no more — this morning I was almost to the last bite of the burrito and bit down on something very hard. I pulled it out of my mouth to discover it was a piece of BROKENGLASS in the burrito. This of course left me feeling queasy the rest of the morning. Very sad because I will miss the burritos, but it says a lot about the quality when something like this happens.

I was wandering aimlessly on my lunch break and stubmled in here. The sign that said«Best Burrito in Denver!» lured me in, although I think they gave themselves that designation. I wanted something cheap and fast so I ordred the bean and cheese burrito with green sause(I think it said $ 2.95 on the sign). She asked if I wanted lettuce, tomato, guac and sour cream on top, and I said sure. Well that brought the total up to $ 6.95. Oh well. The food was ready fast, but the green sauce was SUPER runny, almost watery. Now that I’m thinking back on it, it was actually kind of slimey(gagging a little now). I pulled the burrito out of the slime and salvaged what I could. The beans and the tortilla were good, the cheese was almost non-existent, and there was hardly any flavor. I don’t think I’ll be going back here.

I knew I should have avoided El Azteca after reading Unilocal reviews and reviews from co-workers. Alas, I love Mexican food and really wanted to give it a try. As previous reviews mentioned the service was less than stellar. I could not decide what to order and the elderly cashier seemed agitated by this. I decided to order a beef enchilada and the chips/guac/salsa combo. The enchilada was pretty uneventful, but this is how I determine if I like a Mexican restaurant or not. The red sauce covering the enchilada was alright, but nothing to write home about. When I opened my chip and dip combo I was a little bummed out to see nacho style chips instead of tortilla chips. It was something I would expect from a movie theater, not a Mexican food joint. The salsa had really good flavor, but after three bites my mouth was on fire. I am fairly tolerant to hot foods. I actually brought the salsa home to my significant other to try because he likes hot foods. He confirmed it was not just me, and that the salsa was pretty hot. It would be nice if they offered a milder version. Since eating the salsa was out of the question I moved on to the guacamole. It was oddly smooth. Probably the smoothest guacamole I have ever seen. It was at least edible, but it lacked any distinct seasonings. To top the meal off the nacho chips were on the stale side. I am super bummed out that the food here is just meh at best. It is so close to my work, and I really wanted it to work out. This is worth skipping and finding some where else to eat. I have worked in customer service for many years and it is a shame they act like they are doing you a favor.

Not much on ambiance(they’re in the food court, after all) but the salsa is great as are the breakfast burritos! So yummy!

I needed quick, so I make a quick run across the street to the Republic Plaza food court. After glancing around the selections I see El Azteca and a banner that says best burrito as voted by Westword. Hey, a burrito sounds good. Score! Best Burrito, really? Not the burrito I ordered I will tell you that! For some reason I got a ground beef burrito(I never order ground beef, but apparently I had a brain cramp). What I got was a ground beef burrito, with refried beans and rice(all inside) smothered in cheese and green chile. The beef was either unseasoned or under-seasoned and the rice mixed in made it all taste like really plain Spanish rice. And the chile, well it was um, unique? It was a very thin consistency and really peppered(like black pepper). It wasn’t good. It was kind of odd. Cost me $ 5, which had it been good would have been a decent price in my book. I think I will skip it next time!

I should have known better than to stray from my tried-and-true Chinja pad thai but something snapped when I walked into the food court at Republic Plaza and I decided to order a veggie burrito here. Rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, salsa, cheese, sour cream and guac for $ 4.50 after tax. I ordered it un-smothered but it came smothered so I couldn’t pick it up to eat it. Or whatever it was, the burrito was sitting in a pool of unidentifiable liquid. Also the beans were refried, I should have figured they wouldn’t be healthier whole beans. Also, the shredded lettuce tasted like bottled Italian salad dressing. Also, there was no salsa. Also, just a hint of unmelted cheese on top, none inside. Also, though there were just a couple people in line, it seemed that all the orders were wrong. Annnnd they weren’t that friendly to boot. Next time I’ll keep walking!

um yeaahhh… i’m gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there bob… should have waited for the chick-fil-a dammit. long line and no time pushed me over to el azteca! translation: overpriced dick-fil-a(or dick-fil-é depending upon your cultural preference). not to mention they are touting a sign that says«best burrito in denver» or some shit like that. well, how could i order anything else? burrito fail. and i’d like to echo the complaint of the tricia because the little old ladies there are quite evil. i don’t care if i possibly ordered the wrong item and i should try something else to make a fair assessment, but i won’t be back. i’ll make it up to you chick-fil-a, i promise. we’ll make out in the corner of the food court soon enough…

I would give this place 5 stars if only the cashier and workers weren’t so condescending. Prices are a bit high for a downtown food court and mexican food in general. They are in the Repulic Plaza food court, now the only food court left except for the much nicer Tabor Center food court.(Boy do I miss the California food court!) They have combos, but god forbid you try to alter the combo! Good green chili, excellent moist tamales. I love their tacos, deep fried(although they don’t have to fry them that much!). Never a line but that could be because they are sort of mean to you. It’s like the soup nazi, so good but you have to get treated like crap to get the food. Another thing, they have really good breakfast burritos. You can get them smothered if you want too.
