The bartender and the waitresses were not efficient at all. They never acknowledge you when you have been standing at the bar, for over 5 minutes. The waitress came over, took my drink order and never brought it. Went back to get my drink, at the bar and was ignored for another 5 minutes. It was not that busy either, on this Sat. night. No excuse for this, None. I know things get busy but to just outright ignore everyone who was waiting is unprofessional, at best and I won’t be going back for that crappy service again. It was nice that the proceeds went to Denver Hospice, Saturday night. Hermans Hideaway is a GREAT place to see live music, just don’t expect to see any drinks your way unless you commit to a HUGE tip every time a drink order is delivered.

This is a great place to watch and hear live music. The drinks are generous, the atmosphere is casual. You can hear the person next to you if you are in a conversation. For special events you can purchase a table in a great location to watch your favorite band. This was my first time here, and it was packed! I was with my sweetie, but if you ain’t got your sweetie yet, it’s my opinion that you could meet one here! Drinks are good, so get Über or taxi to take you home!

Was here for the first time last night to watch a friend of ours in a band. Only 2 bartenders at the main bar, the second bar wasn’t even open and what looked like one waitress working her ass off as the only one on the floor. Worst of all was the sound. You could not hear what ANY lead singer was saying, and there were multiple bands playing. The rest of the band sounded great but if you want to hear the actual vocals, I would avoid this place. Or maybe they should get a new sound technician, who btw when I told him of the problem responded by saying«it’s a weird room but I will try to soften it up». Really dude? 4 bands with the same issue and you blame it on the venue? Classy.

We played for the first time at Herman’s last week and were impressed at the marketing put forth by the venue. We were on 6 different websites! Also, the sound was wonderful and the staff took great care of everyone. Looking forward to many more shows and the Best of The West competition this year!!! Hugs and kisses from Float Like A Buffalo

great place to see music. terrible, slow service. Last time we were there, i waited 20 minutes for chips and salsa, and while I was waiting at the bar, they kept serving everyone else who came after me and continued to forget my order. Then every couple of minutes, the bartender would ask me what I was waiting for. If you like dive bars and horrible service, this is a great place. If you want good service, food, and cleanliness, stay away. I still give them 2 stars because I do go once every few years to see a band I like.

Let me start this review by saying the bartender was very sweet, the one star has nothing to do with her service. However, the door man was absolutely horrendous and completely ruined our entire experience. We walked in to a 10 dollar cover for the band, where he made no comment that the band was going to play one more song then their live music was over. After the band had finished, this young man decided to open the garage door(mind you, the temperature was at best 3 degrees outside) and allow all the cold air and smoke to enter the establishment. When I approached him to ask him if they were closing and said it was disrespectful to their bar patrons his response was«Is it really that disrespectful? Am I freezing you out or something?» Our entire group was thoroughly disgusted by his attitude and how an establishment allows their patrons to be treated with such disrespect. I truly don’t recommend this place to anyone, save your money and choose a much cleaner, better place!!!

My new band played at a fund raiser here on Saturday night. It was the first time I’d ever been a performer here and from that aspect I really liked the stage set up. The acoustics and lighting were great! The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was even a Green Room! I felt so legit! I would love to come back and play here again!

Been coming here for 2 decades. Still a great place for small local bands. I am definitely getting older, as one of my favorite features are the ear plugs near the door. This place is super loud and can get quite crowded. My biggest complaint is their make-shift patio(graffiti says it is the best patio in Denver — it’s not!!!), which serves as a smoking chamber. The smoke shoots straight in and you feel like someone is blowing cigarette smoke and ashes straight into your face if you are anywhere in the place, except the bar near the front door. They really need to do something about this as it feels like we are going to suffocate once 2 or more smokers hit the patio.

Herman’s is a great place to see local bands and has been around since the dawn of time in Denver’s music scene. Pretty much everyone who is anyone in the local scene has played here. However, even if you reserve a table, this place gets so packed that there is no guarantee that someone isn’t standing right in front of you blocking your view. And the little high top tables are really close tougher, so you’re basically sitting on top of each other the entire time. If you’re really unlucky, a group who purchases a 4 person high top will invite ALL of their friends to cluster around the table just making space even tighter. This can be a fun place, but it’s not great for casual conversation nights with friends. Once inside you can’t hear anything anyone is saying, even if they are on your lap. Just be prepared for standing room only and a constant flow of people stepping on your toes — other than that, it’s a staple in Denver and worth seeing some great local bands there.

I like this venue. $ 5 Jäger shots are a plus. I saw Lola Black, Omniism & Cathercist here and really enjoyed it. The smoker’s patio has a vertical fire pit on it which is nice. The place is easy to maneuver, bathroom stalls are plentiful, & staff seems to like to have a good time & are good at what they do.

Saw The Samples on new years eve. Been a while since I’ve been here but I now remember what a great local gem this place is.

Here for the Best of the West band competition! My daughter got VIP tickets from Westword which consisted of having a reserved table and the first round of drinks on the house. This is the first time I have been to this venue and I like it! Lots of tables, the sound system was great and Jill, our bartender/server was awesome. Place was jamming with people dancing on the dance floor and everywhere else. They have a small place out front with an overhang and a heater for smokers(pretty cool). Got to see the following bands perform: 1. Starcraft Sunday 2. Portabello Road 3. Color Didn’t get to see the others because it was already 11pm and wanted to hit Matador for Late Happy Hour. All the bands were great, but our favorite band was Portabello Road – hopefully they will get to the finals! There was plenty of street parking and since we were hungry, we were able to go down a couple of blocks and get GB Fish & Chips and bring it inside – awesome! The drink prices were very reasonable. All in all, a great venue and experience!

As far as bars go — it ain’t bad. I stuck to beer, but I never felt like I was stuck waiting for attention. As far as a music venue goes-I caught Lion SoulJahs, Mono Verde, and Sol Authority-and I dig the layout of the place. A nice dance floor up in front, surrounded by tables, so you can sit/stand or lean at the bar at your leisure. Not exactly a staple in my Colorado experience, but it was totally worth catching live music here!

One of the best venues we have played on tour in 5+ years of touring! All the staff were super accommodating and the locals were super into it! We can’t wait to come back! Pulsar /MINISTRY OFLOVE

One of the old standbys for live music in this city, I’ve been coming to Herman’s for years, with the exception of the last 4 – 5 where I’ve been on something of a hiatus from it. Herman’s always has great local bands, when we were in our post college days we were here every Friday night. Last weekend we were cruising looking for a show and they had a Battle of the Bands happening. I like the layout of the place, it’s open and roomy and there’s a big dance floor. the sound quality is decent but not superb, and I love the neighborhood. My main gripes are the parking(there isn’t any, and the neighborhood isn’t terribly friendly for this), the draft beer list is minimal and not very tempting, and the bar is small, it gets overly crowded quickly making it tough to get a drink. Also, it just seems dingy, run down, and dirty. It isn’t the best place for music when I think of all my usual haunts, but it’s not the worst either.

Not sure if I like or dislike this place. The set up is alright, the ladies bathroom is good, and they have a large water jug available. They cater to local acts and have a fun fire in the smoking area. The sound quality is good and they have a lot of tables and a dance floor. They often have deals for the cover, but still… The drinks are overpriced and the vibe is off-putting. One bartender pours watered down b.s. and the other pours em so stiff you feel poisoned. Note to self — drink those PBR tall boys like everyone else, they do it for a reason. They give some personality to this stretch of south Broadway, but I will only go here when supporting a band that deserves a crowd and a loud mouth like myself.

Herman’s Hideaway. Where to begin? Well, how about we start with how to get there? For some reason, I always space out where this place is on South South Broadway(which is the official name of that neighborhood, by the way), despite its marquis and lighted sign. The construction doesn’t really make it any easier. But once I find the place, I usually walk in and think, «Man, am I glad I didn’t have to pay a cover.» Yeah, I’ve never been here without being on some sort of guestlist or with comp ticket in hand. And I never will. This venue just isn’t worth me paying money to get in. The place feels like it was designed to be more of a huge bar, and, oh by the way, we have a stage, than it an actual music venue. The bar serves your standard dive drinks at above dive bar prices. The bartenders are actually pretty fast and nice people, so that’s a plus. This place just doesn’t «work» for me though. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. It’s not a dive bar, because it’s to big and open for that. It’s not a great concert venue because, well, I dunno, it just doesn’t feel like it’s laid out right. Or maybe it’s because whenever I go there, it feels like half the bar is ignoring the musical performance and just going about their business like it was a bar and not a music venue. Each to their own, I guess, and this is definitely not my favorite place to go see a band play.
