This place was directly across from where we stayed on vacation. We came in late last Friday night and still received excellent service. Very friendly staff, helpful in answering any questions and keeping your drink full. The décor was classy and not cheesy or cookie cutter. Nice relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the shrimp ceviche appetizer. It was a little too spicy, even for me and I love some spice. Very tasty otherwise. My husband had the steak with the queso over it and it was delicious and tender. It came with garlic mashed potatoes which were probably the best garlic mashed potatoes I’ve ever tasted. I couldn’t stop eating them off his plate. Now for me. I had the chicken with the mole verde sauce. I will be dreaming about that sauce. Seriously it was that tasty. Great smooth texture with some thickness and body. A touch of spice but not too much. The chicken was moist and they complimented each other perfectly. The dish came with beans and rice with mixed vegetables. That was prepared almost like a stir fry or fried rice style. I enjoyed it. This was definitely a highlight for us food wise on our trip.

Food was good, a bit spicy, especially the salsa. We sat quickly but the service was slow. A waitress from another section took out order when she noticed no one had even greeted us yet. I’d give it another chance one day. Nice patio for summer.

After going to this place often since the day they opened, I will never go back. Service was so slow it was incredible. The drinks came at least 15 min. after ordering. The food was cold and not the flavors we had come to expect. And they were not busy on a Saturday night at 6:00. Sorry it’s off our list.

Food was good, sadly so slow therefore cold. And more disappointing there was a hunk chunk of raw steak in my Guac, makes you wonder about the conditions in the kitchen. Willing to try again.

Paxia transports me to Mexico upon entering the restaurant. Slightly warmer than outside, the smell of spices, this place truly is authentic. Located in a family neighborhood on Tejon, Paxia definitely has this great family style atmosphere. It’s one of those places you are looking for an authentic experience away from the hustle and bustle, Paxia is for you. FOOD: Molcajete is definitely the way to go. Similar to what you could get in a place like Guadalajara, molcajete is something more off the beaten path of Mexican cuisine that most people don’t see. Served in a volcanic rock(how cool is that!), the stew is definitely very good. We got the carne version, but I believe the mar y tierra version is also very tasty according to other reviews on Unilocal.Definitely serves two and great portion size and price($ 20) for dinner. A win on authenticity and price. Overall, the molcajete has that umami flavor from the chilis, onions, and tomatoes, but I think there’s something about that volcanic rock that enriches the flavor and experience of the dish. SERVICE: Very good! Overall, Paxia definitely hits the mark on Mexican cuisine in Denver. I highly recommend this place for anybody taking the time to look for great Mexican cuisine!

I love their shrimp in mushroom sauce! A too hot inside the restaurant, they had the fireplace and the heat going… way too hot in there. And tight space to move around between tables. Otherwise, the food was great!

I really wanted this to be our go-to mexican neighborhood spot but alas, the service was pretty terrible. We sat outside and had 2 separate servers come out to take our orders. They didn’t communicate and blamed a duplicate order on us. We had to go inside and ask 3 times to get our water refilled. The food was strictly dece. I had the green chile shredded beef burrito — the beef didn’t look fresh. We also had the cheesy mushroom queso. It essentially just looked like melted cheese thrown in the microwave. I’d give them a second shot but I’m going to check out other mexican spots first.

Molcajete! Molcajete! Molcajete! Eat it and enjoy. The broth/sauce of the molcajete was as good as it gets. The tortillas were freshly made. I decided to get it instead of fajitas and I doubt I ever eat fajitas again, especially at Paxia. The food was incredible. The service was also very good. I liked that they brought three different kinds of salsas and warm chips to begin. Even the quesadilla was excellent. My only complaint was the lack of fried ice cream. I mean, come on now! Very disappointing. 5 stars for a Mexican restaraunt is hard to get and this place gets it.

We liked this places’ ambiance, service and food. The fireplace and comfy chairs are great! The ceviche was good, but the dinner entre was better. We didn’t get any margaritas but they looked good.

We used to come here a lot. Service has gone downhill. We had a 20+ minute wait for guacamole and when it came it was mild not spicy. We are now 40 minutes in and still waiting for the appetizer. Food here is good but not worth this kind of a wait.

Been here 2x. Some things are good, some need improving. Great Happy Hour margaritas for only $ 5 and good salsas and mole. Guacamole is bland and the entrees are too pricey for what you get. It is not that much better than less expensive Mexican eateries. Three of us last night had 2 Happy Hour margs, one soda, one $ 5 app and 3 entrees for $ 70 before tip. They would be busier if they lowered their prices. At La Cocinita, it would have been less than $ 50 and just as good, if not better.

I had dinner here on a recent business trip to Colorodo. Me and a coworker decided to eat here based on its four star rating. Let me say that I live in Southern California were there is a Mexican joint on every corner, and all I can say is people in Colorado don’t know good Mexican food. At least not based on the ratings this place was given. I had shrimp enchiladas and there was no flavor. My co-workers chicken enchiladas and the meat was very dry. I guess it’s good if you don’t know any better.

I had high hopes for this place, but my first trip was a disappointment. The biggest issue was that their fancy prepared-at-the-tables guacamole wasn’t guacamole. It was just avocado mixed with onion and lime juice! And totally tasteless. We had to pester the waiter for garlic, which at first they said they didn’t have, then we had to chop it on our appetizer plate with our dinner knives and mix it in. It read still tasteless, so we had to add salt bit by bit until it tasted right. By this point half of it was gone because the people at the table were so hungry. When we complained, we were told that ‘customers didn’t like garlic’. Apparently they don’t like it in guacamole, because it was in other dishes! I guess they don’t like salt either. While the entrees were tasty, the price was on the high side and the guacamole episode had ruined the dinner. Otherwise, service was friendly and prompt.

Awesome food and service! The table side fresh guacamole was phenomenal and the server who made it was very friendly. The menu offers options that are different from what I am used to, but the fajitas were fantastic. It’s tucked into a neighborhood off of 70, but worth it. I would definitely come back next time in Denver. I searched for about 45 minutes trying to decide which restaurant to choose on Unilocal and I made the right one for sure. The restaurant was updated and clean too which is always a plus.

This place appears super cute and all my friends were raving about it so I was super excited. After unsuccessfully getting into Chubby’s, my friends said this was the place to go. We got seated promptly and that made us very happy. The server seemed annoyed from the very start. She did not smile once and barely came to the table. Not to mention, she never checked to see if we enjoyed our food. When my friend thought there was something missing from her order, I spent 10 minutes trying to track the server down. I don’t know if she was in a bad mood or what but service can make or break your dining experience. As an appetizer, we ordered the guac and I thought it was super fascinating that they come to the table to prepare it. I literally have never experienced that, so that was awesome! The kid preparing it even waited to make sure we enjoyed it. I really appreciated that. Sure, it was not the best guacamole, but we did not want to complain because he was so nice and made a great effort! For our actual meals, 3 of us ordered the enchiladas verdes. The verde salsa was a bit overwhelming for my taste, but I can see why spice lovers would enjoy it. I also thought the spanish rice was fantastic. My other guest ordered flautitas and said they were quite odd because of the mixture of meats into the tortillas. At the end of the night, I was just not that impressed. I really did want to like this place, but I do not think I will rush back anytime soon.

I am so glad Paxia is in my neighborhood. The first restaurant to raise the tone for Sunnyside’s new era. I love their happy hour and margaritas. They’ve always been great at seating and serving large groups when I call ahead. Best fajitas I’ve ever had. Wonderful specials. Fun décor and ambiance. Service is usually pretty good.

Protip: If you ever get the opportunity to have guacamole made fresh right at your table, DOIT. You end up with perfect guacamole that’s got just the right amount of spice and, mercifully, no onions, much to both Tiffany N and my contentment(neither one of us likes onions all that much). I got the Tlacayos and enjoyed them just about as much as my spellchecker hates that word. Meaning I liked them quite a bit! It comes with three corn cakes and I got chicken on top with all the other veggies and it was more than enough food, which was kind of a bummer, because I really wanted to get a tamale as well. Oh well, next time, Paxia. Next time.

Not too shabby! Hubs and I have been on the hunt for decent Mexican grub since we arrived in this joint(Denver) and I’ve gotta say I was a little skeptical about this place… till I tried the salsa. That was the first hint that it was going to be good. They give you a 3 salsa platter with tomatillo(delish !), tomato based & another chipotle flavored salsa… next, the tableside guac… well the Guac boy wasn’t there so there was no pre-dinner show. :( the main courses were pretty good. the pechuga con mole has a dark chocolate flavor that reminded me of my abeulita. the chile relleno was good, but the cheese caught me little off guard as it was so soft it basically melts in your mouth. They do have a mariachi band on weekends… which I’m not rating because, well, it was a little sad… and I love me some rancheras! But all in all it was a good date night!

Paxia, however you want to pronounce(is the ‘x’ silent or no?), is quite the delicious Mexican cuisine. With extremely fresh offerings ranging from the table-side guacamole to the coin margarita, Paxia definitely delivers on authenticity and quality of flavor. They even serve the Traditional dish, The Molcajete — meats, cheeses, sauces, and peppers melted in a bowl made of lava rock. The only other Molcajete I met was in Los Cabos, so to find here in Denver was not only super exciting, but pretty damn delicious. The décor is extremely laid back and offers all dining scenarios: patio, bar, family style, and two tops all under one roof. And when the service is attentive and the margaritas aren’t too sweet. I’m sold.

This place takes the award for the worst service I’ve ever had in my life. In fact, I probably would have given it a three stars had this rating been based solely on the food. We are here on a Friday night around 7:30, but it wasn’t full enough, in my opinion, to justify the lack of service as the room we were seated in only had 2 other seated tables. The waitress first came up to see if we would like to order drinks, but then we explained we hadn’t been given a drink menu. No big deal, that can easily be done. The Mango margaritas were very good and I was drinking them pretty quickly. They do not offer frozen margaritas. Someone else ordered the Mango margarita as well, but without the orange liqueur because she is allergic to orange and that request was ignored. Next, we ordered guacamole for one of the appetizers and I liked the fact that they made it in front of you and so you knew it was fresh. We ordered mild guacamole, but the waitress then asked, «you ordered medium right?» Someone asked, «which is less spicier mild or medium?» and she laughed to his face. She then started rambling on about how she has to make guacamole for every table who orders it and that it was a job. She seemed annoyed, unhappy to be there and I’m pretty positive we heard her complaining about her job… awkward. The guacamole was delicious though and I kept saying how good it was. Our table ate it right up. The beef marinated fajitas were actually pretty good and I would order them again. We ordered the two person portion and they didn’t give us enough tortillas. After I asked for more it took about 30 minutes to get some. They also didn’t bring us plates and made us use the extremely small appetizer plates, which had already been dirty from the various appetizers we ate, for our fajitas/rice/& beans. I went to the restroom at one point and when I walked in you could see a waitress in one of the stalls had removed her checkbook apron and literally spread it out on the floor in front of the toilet, as if it was a rug, while she peed. She then put it back on and left. This actually made me want to throw up and questioned how clean this place actually was. Clearly we all know how dirty public restrooms are and how people don’t always aim correctly there. If there had been any pee or anything on the floor her apron picked it up. Moreover, she was going and serving people and carrying food, drinks, etc. after doing this. I also noticed large food chunks on the floor of a table they initially tried seating us at, but I said no to the table. It took us about 30 – 45 min to get the check. She assumed a table of 4 people would be paying on one bill when we weren’t and so she had to redo the checks, which took forever again. All in the meantime, I had been staring at her various times throughout the meal because our service was terrible and I could see her 10 ft away chatting with other employees, leaning against the wall and talking, and even sitting down at a table and chatting for a while. I would not recommend this establishment. The guacamole cost $ 8, the mango margaritas were $ 8 each, and the fajitas were $ 22. Although the pricing was not overly expensive, I just don’t think anyone should have to pay this much for the level of terrible service they provide.

Dammit! I want these people to be better. We were out for a 6-mile Sunday walk and Paxia was on the path to home. I called and confirmed that they have a Happy Hour(1400 – 1800) in the afternoon. Great! We arrive and there are 15 other people there. All sitting on the cozy patio in the warm(Summer is just around the corner) Spring weather. The hostess gives an UNwarm welcome. As if we had disturbed her restful slumber. We confirm HH and she says: «You can seat yourself on the patio». Happy we are in spite of the not-welcome. Five minutes go by. No water. No hello. No acknowledgement of our presence. I am too fat to be invisible. We left. Grumpy. Really grumpy. I so wanted to have a beer, an appetizer(and spend $ 20) and enjoy the perfect day. It has been 3.5 years since they opened. 3.5 years and their service is crap.

My husband has been begging to go here since we moved to the neighborhood last year and I recently gave in. The whole experience got off to a weird start when our waiter took our drink order then came back 10 minutes later asked if we wanted to order and interrupted me by saying«wait, you don’t want a drink first?» when I started ordering dinner. When we reminded him that we’d already ordered drinks he seemed confused but then pretended to remember. Immediately after, we watched him walk two tables over, remove two drinks from a couple that had literally JUST sat down and definitely hadn’t even been greeted by a server let alone had time to order drinks, bring them to the bar then walk back to us and served them to us. Uh what? The food seemed to take an oddly long time to come out and when it did it was just okay. I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t love it. And Mexican-food-loving husband was way underwhelmed. It’s a shame the food and service were a let down because the drinks ended up being really good. I had the St. Germain margarita and thought it was awesome. Maybe we’ll try Happy Hour there one day but for now, I’m not really in any hurry to go back.

Good Mexican food is not easy to find. REALLY good Mexican food — even harder. Paxia delivered. BIGTIME. I started with a St. Rita — a margarita made with Saint Germain and it was SOGOOD! And strong. I had two of those bad boys. Their chips and salsa are really good. 3 types of salsa — one that was smoky, a salsa verde that was delicious and spicy and a red salsa that was traditional and yummy. We shared some fish ceviche as a table which was very good. It was a bit non-traditional in the sense that most ceviches are limey and tangy. This was very fresh but not as citrus-y as most are… still very tasty. For dinner I got a chile relleno(you can get two for just a couple dollars more — but I assure you, they’re pretty big). This was so good. I usually like cripsy rellenos. This one was soft but AMAZING. Just the right amount of cheese. The sauce was so good. Big fan of that. If you like good Mexican food — and like REAL Mexican food… not just beans and rice rearranged on a plate for too much money. Real, flavorful, authentic Mexican good. Paxia is the place. We’ll be back. And soon.

New fave place alert!!! First of all this place has plenty of parking. We made reservations on open table for 6 on a Saturday night but the place didn’t look that packed and we were seated ASAP! The place hits you with delicious smells right when you walk in and the free chips and 3 salsas are immediately given to you at seating. The menu is full of apps(queso con chorizo made my day) such as fresh ceviche and the main entrée options are legit Mexican dining: fajitas, enchiladas, sopas, etc. Also the cilantro jalapeño drink is amazing. Great service with live music. I’m in love
