3 years… 3 years… I have loved this place. I have really loved this place. SO much that i got kicked out. BUT… I have eaten here 30 plus times and had some amazing girl night’s out here. Tonight i was sad. We came with expectations of our favs! not the case. It has been a while… since i don’t live over here any more… the menu has shrunken. massively. OK so that’s not a bad thing… I like when places stick to what they are good at. BUT not one person at the table really had a good meal. I remember the amazing Tomatillo salsa and the flour tortilla chips… we got a basket full of crumbs. I am not exaggerating the server even laughed!!! Food wise… Mine was COLD. I hate cold food! Everything had some weird sour cream sauce as a garnish… We all love this place. We spent so much time here before we moved and now we are sad. I miss this place!!! 1 star for dollar Tecates on Mondays! :)

Preface: I received an email from Liz, the new manager at Señor Rita’s, she said to come back to try them and the meal with margaritas would be on the house. It took a bit of convincing to get The Husband to go but I got him with Free is Free. I will list the changes so you too will reconsider Señor Rita’s and give them one more chance: 1) Service. The service has greatly improved. Everyone now works as a team making sure you have what you need and making sure all is well. And most of all enjoying what they are doing. 2) Recipes: In the past I had tried the baja tacos so for judging purposes I thought I would try them again. Oh yum, gone is the fish and chips fish, the cole slaw, and white creamy sauce and now is a choice of a fried cod or blackened Mahi, a pico which can sneak up on you, pickled onions, and an Agave vinaigrette. YUM!!! Also, the husband had Pollo asada enchiladas with a green chili which is a tasty pork in a tangy tomotillo sauce. They have a 10 oz pork chop and the rubs on the meats have changed. The salsa was still not that great but Liz listened to me and brought out a small bowl of Habernero salsa to spice it up. Woo-Wee, that fluffed my hair. Be sure to ask for it if you like it hot! 3) Happy Hours and specials anyone can afford. M-Thur.(3 – 6), F-Sun(11 – 6) that is correct 11:00AM!!!, $ 1.00 tacos(5 – 6: M-F), $ 2.00 Tecates, $ 3.00 House Margaritas, and $ 4.00 Frozen drinks. And along the lines of happy hour libations, they also have a wonderful list of tequila shots. The husband had a $ 21.00 shot(we paid for that one) of a tequila aged in oak barrels and it was so smooth and caramel tasting. 4) Community Outreach: 25% of your Wednesday bill goes to schools in the Park Hill neighborhood. Now you can actually support a school by drinking and I say that is better than taxes. Things that are good and have not changed: 1) The space is still really nice. I have always liked the interior. 2) Ample parking which is a plus for Colfax businesses. 3) Walking distance for me. So as you can see, Señor Rita’s has made many changes and is reaching out to Unilocalers and the community to show how they have changed. It makes me happy to see a business reevaluate its situation and understand how to make changes and most of all realize the potential in one of its employees and promote her to manager. Señor Rita, you have a valuable jewel with Ms. Liz. Keep her and keep letting her make changes as I could tell by last nights business she is doing a great job. The husband and I will be back and we also want to thank you again for last night’s delicious meal. It is great to have you«back» in the hood and offering such a great place to have drinks and then stay for dinner.

It makes me sad when a small business is THISBAD. The food was cold and gave me a stomach ache for hours after I ate it, the music was weird, and the waitress kept sticking her boobies in my face. Um, that didn’t work for me. Honestly, this place might do well with a visit from Gordon Ramsay.

Got take out from Señor Rita’s last night. I’m torn. They have a decent space, and great happy hour specials. However, I gave very specific instructions as to how I wanted them to make my burrito. Very specific. When I got home, they weren’t even close to what I asked. So, I’d give them one star for not following instructions. I decided to give them an extra star because their refritos were really good. You could tell they were made with lard, because damn — they were tasty. My sweetie got the chile relleno/cheese enchilada combo plate, and it was just ok. Not great. There are still a couple of things on the menu that sound interesting to me, so I’ll probably give Señor Rita’s one more try and see how it goes. However, if you don’t live in the neighborhood, this one isn’t worth your time(unless you come for happy hour for $ 2PBR or Tecate and $ 3 house(Sauza) margs and well drinks!).
