The prime rib special!!! This unassuming place doesn’t look, from the outside, like it would have good prime rib… but it does. Served exactly like you like it, it comes with a crisp salad served in a cold bowl and a baked potatoes with all the fixings. The Yardarm has been a fixture in Des Moines and a gathering place for MRHS alumni for quite awhile. It’s got a hometown feel with friendly staff. Don’t just go there for the prime rib, try the burgers as well. Big sloppy bar burgers thst drip down your wrist as you chomp them down.

Good bar food at reasonable prices. Burgers are the best. Steaks are not that good. The specials are good as well as the soups. The BLT with avocado is awesome. Good bar food.

Love this place, i would recommend it to anyone looking to have a drink in a low key atmosphere during the day or early night or if you wana have a night out with the girls, anytime after 10. The food there is great, its not your typical bar food. From salads to steaks to burgers, all of it is really good. And to top it all off, all of the employees are exceptional! Crazy huh?

The YardArm is in an excellent location. Kind of hidden, a neat little place. The décor is normal bar décor. Nothing inappropriate or uncomfortable for women.(And certainly not a girly girl martini kind of place). Atmosphere is comfortable for all. I walked in found a cute table to two, and sat myself down. 15 minutes went by. I was not greeted by the bartender or the two waitresses. At 25 minutes my girlfriend went up and ordered our drinks. Not one time on 4 ½ hours did they come to our table and ask to get us something/check on us. I went up to order some food, and stood at the bar for a good solid five minutes. Two waitresses were clearing ONE table. No one acknowledged me. Then one girl follows the other to the kitchen empty handed. Finally the bartender takes my order. I’ve heard their food is outstanding, but the Nachos were awful! The chicken tasted very strange, and had a grey color to it. We stopped eating it. When my friend cashed out the tab, she didn’t leave a tip. Because let’s be honest the service was Awful! And the waitress actually had the nerve to sarcastically thank her. I’m very disappointed in the first time experience. The atmosphere and location is to be desired but the service is seriously lacking!

I went on a Friday night, and it was kind of empty, so a lot of options on what table we wanted to sit at. They had a good happy hour menu, and tried the Fried calamari. It was pretty good, nice and crispy batter. We ordered vodka and soda, and they were good drinks; I mean, you didn’t have to question if there was alcohol in it. Staff was very friendly, it’s just our waitress didn’t come around often enough as we would like. Everyone had to keep going up to the bar to order more drinks. So far, it seems like a nice place to just hang out and have some drinks and talk with friends without having to yell to hear each other.

We have had so many exceedingly good meals and gatherings in this Yardarm but lately we had so much confusion with orders taking, timing, coordination between kitchen and waters, all this with less than the best food preparation/service. I recently invited 30 for dinner, members of our«regular» diners and half decide against, while many did not even RSVP. We personally noted that the French Fries quality has lost that crispy, seasoned flavor and the prime rib was, for some of our group, inedible for gristle, not cooked to the right degree, and even arrived only warm to th

I wake up… looking at the ceiling in my kitchen… Why is my next door neighbor in my house, looking down at me, like an angel from the sky, saying ‘Mike… Mike… Mike… Do you want me to close your door? «I wake up thinking OMG, I need to go to work! It takes a minute or two to realize… Its Saturday. Huh. Why do I only have one Shoe on? Who put these empty wine bottles on my counter? Why is there a dress on my sofa… The last bit of cognoz-i-zation I have is… drinking«Last Words» at Star Brass. And a luvverly memory it is, too. Star Brass IS(utterly) the bomb. Go. Word.

Food is good but the service is Terrible the staff would rather sit around and talk amongst each other then help customers numerous times I’ve been in there and waited over 15 minutes before someone even came up. Was in there Friday night with some friends and explain to me they have the same circumstances numerous times when you want to drink you have to go up to the bar and get it yourself definitely needs more customer care its like the waiters don’t want to be there.

Beer was cold, mixed drinks ok. I had the bacon cheese burger with fries it was a great burger. Me and wife came back again had great drinks and ordered the appetizer sample plate. I would not order this again. It all taste like its straight out of the freezer. Not worth the price. I would think this place would be way better with home cut fries, beer battered onion rings and home made mushrooms. The onion rings taste like the burger king ones. mushrooms were nasty, poppers, cheese sticks frozen, nasty. Other than that the burgers and sandwiches we had we awesome. Please get rid of the frozen stuff and make fresh. It does not cost any more and more people would come back. Wait staff could use better training. It took a long time to get drinks, and had to ask for everything. You think they would bring all to your table once you order food.(Catsup, napkins, salt, pepper.)

Good food, good beer selection, good service, stiff drinks, good price. A good place to take a group because you can hear each other across the table. Pool tables if you like that. The specials are great deals. Fun place to go after sailboat racing or during local parades. Whatever your age(21 plus) you won’t feel out of place. If you’re by yourself, sit at the bar and people will chat. Plenty of parking. I’ve been going here for ages and it’s never a bad experience. When you have a place in the neighborhood with a personality, I don’t know why people would go to Red Robin.

I used to frequent this place, but was forced to stop when a slew of bad decisions would inevitably follow. However, the drinks are good, strong and fairly priced. The food is good, but they stop serving it rather early(like 11?) which is weird for a self-proclaimed pub. Service is okay, busy nights you’ll probably have to fight someone for a spot in line for a drink. Reason they got 3 stars: they serve minors, a lot. I don’t know if it’s intentional or what but I know wayyyyy too many minors that frequent this place and it weirds me out. Just be careful… that chick you’re trying to pick up could quite possibly be a 16 year old studying for the WASL.

Finally tried the breakfast here on superbowl sunday. This place keeps impressing me more and more. I started with a good bloody mary and then had the chicken fried steak which was very good as well. Always get good service and keep coming back.

Its my local bar… I have nothing bad to say about this place. I’ve been coming here for 10 years. The only reason I’m writing this review is to tell you about Steak Night. This place has a steak special every night of the week. For example Tuesday is $ 10 Steak night. On Wednesday you can get $ 16 Rib eye with sides. Its awesome. If you are looking for a good dinner, that quick and reasonably priced give this place a shot. There aren’t many places you can get a $ 16 Rib Eye, plus they have good beer on tap and a nice happy hour menu. $ 5 Nachos is a deal… there regular Nachos are also worth the price as they come with an entire bag of chips worth of food.

I walk into this pub, based largely on recommendations from my fellow Unilocalers. 5 minutes into Thursday Night Football, no one has greeted me. I flag down the bartender. «Do I just seat myself, and someone will be over?» «Oh, yeah, yeah.» Not promising. I’m ready to leave 5 minutes later when someone does come over to take my order. Very quickly, I am supplied with adult beverage, and soon after my order is taken, the delicious(thick, creamy, salty, full of clams) chowder is served, and I’m on my way. Wish I could have ordered the burger rare, though I didn’t ask after the doneness. I had the bacon/bleu cheese — it’s generous on the bacon, reasonable on the bleu, more than adequate on the other toppings. You get a soup or salad or fries with the burger, or $ 1 more for chili or chowder(which I did) — really, why get fries when you can upgrade to chowder? I’ve now done seafood 3 days in a row in the Pacific NW and still going strong. After a fine meal, I moved to the bar, had a few more drinks, and chatted with the locals. Beer selection is reasonable — move up to the $ 4.50 options for your best choices. Totalling it up in my head, my entire bill really ought to have been more than it was, or at least it seems that way, but multiple beers and a very filling burger/chowder combo came out to under $ 30. Package that with friendly locals and an ambiance that manages to avoid being downscale, upscale, or hipster — just right. Hell, maybe I’ll be back tomorrow? More than decent. I did not ask about dessert. No idea if they have any.

Ordering a steak at a bar can really be a scary experience. Request«medium rare» you are more than likely find yourself chowing down on something resembling boot leather than an actual piece of beef. Knowing this to be case, I asked(the super friendly wait staff) for a rare steak(and hoping for something around medium well). The biggest surprise of the night, my steak came out of the kitchen bloody rare! Wow! Kudos to the cooks! My filet was a quality cut, served with a loaded mashed potatoes I was quite happy to the last bite. Yardarm is casual, warm and staffed by super talkative and entertaining staff. The service is attentive and the food pretty gosh darn good. And lesson learned, no need to order your steak rare, just go medium rare and you can trust that you will get exactly that.

Nice little tavern, that has some of an older persona to it and with a pretty friendly staff. I met a buddy here to do some work and grab a burger and a beer. Pretty solid burger(graded on how messy I was when I ate it) and a pitcher. Not much more that I could ask for. Might be a good place to land to watch a ball game(uh, the M’s were on but we weren’t really watching).
