We had a great time at Café 78. The egg sliders were delicious. Billy the bartender was very knowledgable of the different products and cocktails that they had. We had a great time and surely will return. The Dj music was great too!

I love this place. They have creative drink options including Pantone themed cocktails! We also had the butterscotch Panna Cotta which was delicious. Also, our bartender was super cute and attentive!

This is a great place for coffee, meetings, and reading/working. The atmosphere is perfect for quiet work. The coffee is strong and well done. You ask for a power strip to be lowered to your table and it’s magically descended by a kind barista. There is a light plates menu for lunch and dinner and also a full bar. It’s not a pretentious space in spite of the fact that in the past mocad has been known to be a somewhat insular space. They’ve moved beyond that with the addition of café 78 and I think a shift in their way of working with the public. I had a wonderful soy café mocha. The cups to stay are a lot smaller for the same price, but I don’t mind that. A slower infusion of caffeine is better anyways, for long sessions. You can ask for a to go cup to get 12oz versus the 8oz in the to stay cups, at the same price. The barista didn’t mind people having to go cups actually to stay, if a larger coffee was desired. Ahh the importance of coffee. Cheers to caffeination!

Stopped in for a quick lunch and enjoyed it. Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Mushroom soup was excellent with lots of flavor. Mac and cheese was OK. Would like to try the drinks in the future because they looked interesting on the menu.

We went here for brunch for a group of about 12 – 14. I ordered the antipasto salad which was really good and an egg salad sandwich without the bread. Unfortunately, this café is not very gluten free friendly. I had a bacon-infused bloody mary which was okay. They also have anchovy-infused bloody marys, but no thanks on that :) My boyfriend ordered the egg salad sandwich and the shrimp rolls. He liked both of them. Overall, the environment is cool with an open air scene, but it was about $ 60 for those items I listed above. And you have to order yourself at a register and then the food is delivered to you. It’s an artsy scene, but for a big eater… I’d recommend somewhere else.

Probably unfair to be reviewing a place after a brief stop-in for a pre-dinner cocktail. Love the idea of adding a cocktail bar with small bites inside a warehouse space(MOCAD), and I’m always welcoming of another drink spot in Detroit. Interesting take, and embracing of the surroundings, by naming and modeling each drink after a color. Grabbed the mezcal blue and gin orange. Ended up being slightly less enamored by the mezcal, a play on the Gun Metal Blue cocktail, as I was the gin, ginger and carrot infusion. Recommended. Didn’t get a chance to try anything off the tasty looking small plates menu as we were on our way to Chartruese for a much anticipated dinner, but looked good enough for a return visit. Perhaps the greatest positive was the utter simplicity and ease of parking and the instantaneous service, given the crowded nature of other various watering holes in the area. I’ll be back.

Great for brunch on Sunday. Shrimp rolls were really tasty. Croque madame had an inch of ham on it!

I love this place for meeting up — big enough tables for multiple books during study sessions, and they’re spaced out well too. The music can be a little loud at times. Food/drinks are on the pricier side, but to be fair, the coffee and cocktails are superb. Big caution, though: they host a LOT of events, so if you’re planning to meet someone, I recommend checking to make sure they’re open to the public.

I’ve been to Café 78 several times and always order the shrimp rolls. Those are my absolute favorite thing on the menu. The celery soup is very filling and delicious. The chocolate panna cotta is rich, just a few bites satisfies that chocolate craving. Everything I’ve had has been delicious. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food you get. The service is quick so it’s a great spot for lunch. They open at 8AM for coffee and also have baked goods from Pinwheel bakery.
