This is basically a shack on the side of the road. The seafood is fabulous! Ed is wonderful! It seems to remind me of the old fish camps in the Carolinas. I love it! I always get t. he steamed shrimp or crabs. The breaded stuff is not a favorite(except for the onion rings). anything there that is steamed is off the charts. If you are prissy this place probably won’t work for you.

Leave the seafood, take the chicken. An expensive disappointment. Precooked & over-cooked crabs, dry & fishy shrimp. Some of the crabs tasted spoiled, not a good thing for seafood. Wish we’d read reviews before going there. Years ago we used to get decent chicken, sorry I tried it again. We won’t be back.

Don’t bother going. Not only the cashier was rude to us my fish came out raw and it had a kind of mass they put with the fish prob to make it look bigger. Then I asked for buffalo shrimp instead and they send me something else that had a bite of shrimp and tons of breading. Never coming back.

After going to Dewey for many years I always overlooked this place, either because it appeared«gross» or I was simply not looking for seafood. But I really wanted crabs this time and after calling a few places in the area, this was the cheapest(either $ 60 or $ 65 for a dozen large — I can’t remember). I read several reviews online, mostly neutral or unfavorable. But in addition to being the cheapest, it was also within walking distance and it was a nice evening to sit outside and eat, so we went for it. We were all pleasantly surprised. First of all, if you’ve never eaten crabs and don’t know how many to order or how to pick them, don’t go here. You will not have a server to help you. You order at the window, they provide you with all of your crab eating essentials, and call you when they are ready. The larges were legitimately large, and they even threw in an extra since we had 1 – 2 more medium sized crabs. They were conservative with the Old Bay and I appreciated that. All crabs were meaty and steamed just right. Some of the best crabs I’ve eaten. They do not serve or allow alcohol here. That is disappointing but it wouldn’t deter me from going back. Actually, nothing would deter me from going back. Yes, it’s run down and looks totally unappealing but give it a try. There is also an Italian ice stand right in the dining area. The owner brought us samples of her flavors that night and they were great. She makes it herself.

The blue crab claws we ordered had a distinct«over» smell, and when we took them back and told them the staff person said, «yes, we know» and gave us our money back. Even if not spoiled, crabs were definitely over seasoned with Old Bay. Too salty to eat, even with beer(they don’t sell or allow beer, FYI). Broiled fish came deep fried. Broiled scallops came deep fried. Cole slaw was good but one order had hair in it. French fries were very good. If you’re a foodie, avoid this place.

Wasabi shrimp, crab claws slaw and corn on the cob, enjoyed on outdoor picnic tables. Pricey but a must try.

Somewhat pricey for what you get but still worth a try. Whole crabs and crab claws are substantial and perfectly seasoned with Old Bay. Corn on the cob is crisp, hush puppies were warm are had a nice flavour– but would recommend passing on the coleslaw. Staff is friendly and ordered items are brought to the window quickly.

We went there twice. 1st time we got half dozen large crabs and they were good. The 2nd time we were there we got a dozen large crabs but probably 3 or 4 of them were either so dry and rubbery or had a foul smell. Giving them a benefit of the doubt I give this a 3 star. My advice to this place is not to put dead crabs in the pot and mix with all the other good crabs. Overall this place is just a local crab shack and I hope they take my advice and keep the place going.

Delicious and perfectly cooked crabs. Pricey, but worth the occasional splurge. We ordered a dozen large crabs($ 75) one night and went back for 2 dozen more a couple of nights later! Both times we got the crabs to-go; and they gave us brown paper for the table which made for easy clean up. The crabs were meaty and cooked just right. Our visit was in mid-June.

Where’s the 6th star? The best. Apparently you can’t leave a witty«short» review so I’m typing worthless words for no reason.

Been eating here all my life. I think it’s delicious. However, competing with the flies outside is tough. Lots of noise on rt. 1. Conditions are less than sanitary. Dirty community sink to wash your hands in. Prices are extremely high, in fact, much higher than they should be. Portions are small too. Parking is limited. Go, but don’t expect much. For exactly the same price you can have all you can eat indoors at someplace like Phillips(fine dining) in Ocean City. Seriously, you sit outdoors at a shack, like you’re in the sticks of Alabama, and eat small portions off of a dirty table that’s the same price as all you can eat at any of Rehoboth or Ocean City’s fine dining restaurants. No joke. See for yourself.

Love the vibes of this beachy seafood joint. It’s an easy place to pick up from or stop at on your way back from the beach. The crab cakes have way more filler than Woody’s so that wouldn’t be my first choice here but I do love their clam strips and steamers. They have a huge menu and service is generally pretty fast.

If you want a peel-your-own crabs experience in Dewey Beach, you are probably going to wind up here. The trouble is that the crabs are only okay, the service is unfriendly, and the place itself is very basic/rudimentary. Considering how many better places there are for crab in MD and DE, I could have done without this experience. The staff was unhelpful in trying to help us figure out how many crabs we would need to make a meal. In the end we had to walk down the street and get a crab cake sandwich elsewhere to split to feel full. After our bad experience at Ed’s I don’t see myself attempting to peel-my-own crabs anytime again soon. They also don’t have beer for sale, which might have made the experience more fun and entertaining.

The worst place I ever ate down the shore. Never again. Vacationers please stay away. The eating area outside was dirty and all the stools were held down with a cable making it a tripping hazzard. I guess they didn’t expect for people to sit outside on such a nice day. They wouldn’t toast the bread on my softshell sandwich. The owner of this business should be ashame of himself. The health department should shut him down. Tables aren’t even wiped down and there’s a dead fly next to me on the table. I would give it no starts but this app will not let me do that.

We’re from Baltimore, we know how to catch, cook and eat crabs, and we know good crabs when we get them. These were the worst we’ve ever had. They were obviously precooked and reheated. They were seasoned as an afterthought, not before steaming. The crab soup was watery, crab meat was scarce, it tasted like canned vegetable soup with a bit of low quality crab meat tossed in. The outdoor eating area was filthy. All this, and they charge top dollar too. If you are a visitor seeking a traditional steamed crab experience steer well clear of this place. They haven’t a clue. We frankly haven’t found any decent Rehoboth area crab restaurants. Head to Ocean City and try PNC Crabhouse. They know their crabs!

Ed’s has always been a fun place to go for crabs and sit outside to enjoy to eat and enjoy the casual fun of summer at the beach. Sadly, I can no longer eat crabs so thought I’d get the fried oysters; however, I asked and was told they were frozen(not fresh) so I didn’t order them. I ordered the whole lobster with roll and coleslaw at $ 19, but didn’t ask if it too was frozen. Perhaps I should have! The lobster was terrible, freezing cold in the middle and all the lobster meat was dry, tough, and had a strange unpleasant somewhat spoiled taste. Even the steamed corn was a disappointment. My friends enjoyed the crabs although at $ 5 each they seemed a bit pricey. Glad to see Ed’s is still here but hope things improve. Syl S.

First of all… dont go here unless you know what eating crabs is all about — THECRABS. I met Ed and his wife when I placed my order of XL crabs. The crabs were fresh, seasoned well, and the size did not dissapoint. ED himself delivered the crabs, greated us, and made sure we liked them. I didnt have one spoiled crab in the whole bunch and the group of us couldnt stop talking about how good they were. We also ordered shrimp which were freshly cooked as well and seasoned lightly. I notced some people around us ordered the chicken and it looked like it was literally just cooked fresh… I wished I had room for some. The prices here are VERY reasonable for seafood and its supporting a local business that cares about their customers… GOTOED’s you will not be dissapointed!

Ed’s has a few things going for it: the quality of their food is pretty good, and the damn SEAFOODMEDLEY. We came here for dinner the other night, as out of town visitors, and a majority of us got this meal… It included scallops, shrimp, king, snow, and stone crabs, corn with butter, and lobster tail. I thought it was pretty damn good — some will agree and some will disagree. I loved the environment, as its perfect for a street-side dinner of bashing some crabs. The AMOUNT you get isn’t too great, as I was left hungry after I finished my Medley. Also, the service was a bit odd. Me and 6 buddies all got Medley’s, but for some reason the cashier had to ring us up on a form with our names being filled out with our orders? It took about 15 minutes just to PLACE an order… very odd. Either way, good food, a-ok, nothing that stands out!

While on a bachelor party this past weekend, my friends and I made the executive decision to find some crabs, hit them with mallets, and feast using only our hands. Based upon location, only a block from our house, we went to Ed’s. Almost all of us went after the Seafood Melody, which had various seafood from a lobster tail to king crab claws to shrimps and scallops for $ 20.99. A few others ordered the Crab scale sandwich and various Po’Boys. After about five minutes, we all were feasting upon the seafood crushing shells to find the good eats. All of the seafood was delicious including the cocktail sauce, which we all agreed we’d drink because it was so good. My only beef with Ed’s was the amount of food we all received for the money. Yes, seafood is expensive but we really didn’t get enough for $ 20 and I found myself looking for more food when I left. Also, the staff of Ed’s except for one younger girl were all very confused and taken back by the size of our group. We ordered one by one, but if it wasn’t for the young staff, I think it would have become very frustrating. I’d try Ed’s if I was in the area, but I wouldn’t make it a ‘must try’ when down in Dewey. Overall, I found the food selection in Dewey Beach to be terrible, but Ed’s was one of them on the higher section.

Seriously delicious! My boyfriend and I shared the seafood medley and an order of fried clam strips. Tons of food, exceptionally good. It’s a seafood shack so don’t expect amazing service. Just go, order, and enjoy. You are at the beach, it’s time to relax!
