After receiving a recommendation from a local lady, we stopped in for a late lunch. Awesome fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cheese biscuits, greens and other veggies. Some of the best I have ever had. It’s just a shame that this place is off the beaten path, but maybe that’s why it is so good. We also browsed the little shop and came home with fudge and a whole pie. All were a big hit. If you are near Dillard, this is a must stop.

We stopped here while on vacation. Great food, there was 6 of us and we all ordered something different. Everything from liver and onions to a philly cheesesteak. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. Our server was very friendly, everything she suggested was spot on. we will definitely stop here again on our next trip to the mountains.

This is an adorable little café, cutely decorated and clean. Our breakfast was delicious. The«famous» biscuits and gravy did not disappoint — it reminded me of what my grandmother used to make. The service was fast and friendly. We’ll be back! Those pies looked great — i’ll get one next time.

I’ve eaten here for years and always enjoyed the food, atmosphere(great outside deck) and staff. The only reason it’s getting 3 stars instead of 5 is because of a bad managerial experience on my last visit where my order was undercooked and took almost 20 minutes to be replaced. At this point I just got the food to go because I didn’t have time to eat it there. The Server apologized but there was no effort from the Manager to show any type of empathy. Such a shame and I hope it’s not signs of things to come for the Cupboard Café. With that being said in the past it’s been a great experience. They have a wonderful eggs benedict and my daughter loves the popcorn shrimp they have on the kids menus(not bad for an adult sized portion of shrimp & side for only 5.99).

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had! Okra was crispy and yummy. The banana pudding is made from scratch the old fashioned way.

We just passed on Dillard house to come here. No wait here. Table service and some of the best country homemade food ever. I had the pecan crusted catfish. I only wish I had taken a picture to post. The yummy fried chicken fed two of us and all the sides were very satisfying. I only wish I saved room to take the super bomb challenge of 10 scoops of ice cream in an hour. The only negative was being told they don’t make any of the speciality coffees on the menu only to walk by the espresso machine in the gift shop and they lady there said our server was just being lazy. Would have gotten 5 stars with the caramel latte I wanted.

We had a very good breakfast today. The food was truly southern and delicious. The ladies there were typical sweet southern folks. Such a great experience. We will definitely be back.

The best Fried Chicken. I love the skin/crust. I come about once a month. The homemade Pound cake is delicious. Most always get good service.

My review is only for the breakfast fare here. On vacation from FL, our party of 4 had a really excellent breakfast here before our trip to NC. I just had biscuits and gravy, but the gravy was loaded with tasty ground sausage, and the portion was far bigger than I could finish. Every menu item our party ordered was excellent. Top-notch service too. No complaints! We have some excellent and near-legendary breakfast joints where I live, and my Mom still swears the Cupboard Café is one of the best she has ever experienced. We are looking forward to our next trip North for another visit! Thanks!

Excellent down home restaurant with great variety of menu items. Tonight I had the Monte Cristo sandwich. Excellent cook, outstanding ingredients well presented. The wait staff is always friendly, and just the right amount of attentiveness. Prices are very good for a sit down meal. Always coming back to this place.

Perhaps this is the place that inspired the Cracker Barrel concept. Family owned and operated. My roast beef dinner had rich gravy with sautéed mushrooms and came with two sides. My husbands prime rib looked great and he liked it(didn’t offer me a taste). Our friend had a cold plate of different salads, picked beets, ripe tomatoes that looked good and he really liked. The server was having a rough time but the rest of the crew made it right. Delicious dinner.

On a recent retreat at the Dillard House, I dined at Cupboard Café twice. After battling traffic driving from Atlanta for nearly three hours, I arrived at Cupboard Café close to 8pm on a Friday evening. Although they close at 8:30, the hostess and server were very accommodating to our group and welcomed us enthusiastically. There were a total of 7 people in our party and they served us and honored all our requests quickly! For dinner, my girlfriend and I shared a fried chicken platter and also ordered a vegetable plate: creamed corn, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes of the day, and sliced tomatoes. After a long evening of driving, this meal hit the spot! Everything arrived at our table quickly and all the portions were much, much larger than we anticipated. We gave a valiant effort but weren’t able to come close to finishing all of the food. The fried chicken was very delicious – crispy, juicy, and hot! The sides all tasted like something you’re grandmother would make, and it’s very clear Cupboard Café doesn’t take any shortcuts when it comes to their food. We returned again for breakfast before heading back into town and I ordered the Chick a Dee hash with a biscuit and side of sausage gravy. This was an extremely heavy breakfast but tasty and filling. Again, the meal reminded me of everything that would come straight out of a southern grandmother’s kitchen. I enjoyed both meals here and the service is phenomenal! We had two different servers on each visit but they were both very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. Each time they returned to our table, they had beaming smiles on their faces! This place gets an A+ in my book and is definitely worth a visit!

Stopped here for a late lunch on the way from the Smoky Mountains back to Atlanta. It’s an old-school roadside southern restaurant. You enter through a touristy gift shop. The food is solid. The fried chicken was seasoned nicely, although the breast was a little dry. The sides we tried: –mac n cheese was just so-so –butternut squash soufflé was very sweet, but delicious –fried okra was great –cornbread was decent, cheddar biscuit was pretty good, yeast roll was not as good. –banana pudding for dessert. YES. Best thing we tried. The real deal. The food reminds me of Mary Mac’s or Colonnade in Atlanta. Everything is mostly pretty good, everything is entirely un-healthy, and the recipes don’t seem to have changed in half a century. Won’t knock your socks off(with the possible exception of the excellent banana pudding), but not bad. Service was very friendly and quick. Good value /low prices. Overall a good experience. Worth a try.

Stopped here on the way back from Asheville to Atlanta. We had seen the signs for Dillard House which put us in the mood for Southern comfort food, but when we looked it up on the web, it was not quite what we were looking for. A quick search on Unilocal while on the road pointed to Cupboard Café as an alternative more to what we were looking for. We were very impressed — olé fashioned Southern comfort food done properly. I had the onion-encrusted chicken, which came with a peach glaze that was both wonderful and completely not what I expected — think applesauce, but with peaches, not at all sticky-sweet as many fruit-based sauces are. Butternut squash soufflé(very good!) and potato salad as sides, and my partner picked up a few fried pies to go. Service was great, friendly ladies all round. We don’t get up to the mountains that often, but we will definitely come back here on the rare occasion that we travel up 441 again.

Service was very good. Our server was very kind and helpful with helping us decide what to get. Food was okay — nothing exceptional. The omelette was massive, as what my wife’s Chick-a-dee hash, but was mostly onions and peppers as a filling for both, and not much meat. I got a side of potatoes and they were more boiled than browned and had an unusual taste to them. Kids had pancakes and sausage. As a guy that makes his own sausage, this was pretty good stuff. Prices were pretty high at over $ 40 for 2 adults and two small kids, but the place was always packed when we drove by, so I guess they aren’t scaring away business.

I stopped by here on the way up to Asheville for lunch. I decided on the fried chicken, since it seemed to be one if their specialties. The fried chicken was moist and tender, but there was a little too much breading and not enough meat for my tastes. The mashed potatoes were standard fare and nothing special. The steamed vegetable of the day was cauliflower. The steamed vegetable is just that: steamed vegetables with no seasoning. They were, however, cooked about right, not mushy and not raw. I got a cheese biscuit when I sat down, and another with the lunch. The biscuits were good, but they’re not something I would go out of my way to try. The service was exceptionally friendly and quick. Overall, this place was decent but nothing in the meal stood out as exceptional. I might come here again, but would probably try some other restaurants in the area first.
