Brother Jimmy’s BBQ

I have frequented this mall quite a few times, and never have I gotten the urge to stop in and try this place. It just looked like I’d be disappointed by it. The only reason I came in Sunday is because someone else in my party suggested it and she was becoming hangry.
So just a brief rundown here…
Our server was terrible. She spent more time leaning and chatting it up in the servers station than she did at her tables. (I could see directly into the kitchen, that’s how I know)
My soda was flat and the other people I was with ordered pins coladas and they lacked alcohol.
The food wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t good either.
Hush puppies didn’t have any taste or seasoning. Super bland.
The mac and cheese was boxed mac and cheese with breadcrumb topping.
The baked beans were from a can and cold. (Word of advice: If you’re gonna fake baked beans, AT LEAST cook the can taste out of them)
The fried chicken had all of the flavor on the skin. There was absolutely NO flavor in the actual meat.
And the fried chicken is coated with breadcrumbs and deep fried. Who coats fried chicken in breadcrumbs?! And the menu definitely states that it’s coated in flour (as it should be).
There was only one server in the entire place that was even remotely pleasant to deal with.
Experiences like this are why I very seldom let someone convince me to go against my better judgment.

This restaurant really lacks quality in all areas: from the drinks to the food to the customer service. However, it seems to be only this location because I love the one in Brickell. Last night was my second time giving the dolphin mall location a shot and it failed… Our waitress had an entitled attitude and it took 15 minutes just to get our drink. Our food was bland… We all got burgers with different sides and the only item that really stood out was the Mac and cheese. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. Plus, there are so many new restaurants opening up in dolphin mall that this restaurant won’t even have to be an option anymore!

First off, I think the majority of these reviews are from out of towners. Let’s just put that out there.
Second time eating here and it will be the last time.
Your hostess sat us in the back, we looked at our menus, waited close to 15 minutes for anyone to appear.
We saw what seemed like your waitress chit chatting other patrons but ignoring us.
Restaurant was empty by the way.
We walked out.
Your service sucks.

I tried to like it but the food just plain sucks. Nothing special at all. Right down to the guacamole and chips. Just blah. Food has no taste, no creativity. Despite it being almost empty the service was super slow and they got my order and my husband’s order wrong. The burger was watery, not juicy or moist, watery. Yuck. Don’t waste your money and time here. So many other great places nearby. Should’ve gone to cheesecake factory…

This has been by far the worse establishment I’ve ever been to. The waitress wasGOD AWFUL. It’s a Friday night and it’s not even busy. The waitress took 45 mins to even serve us. We are so frustrated and hungry at this point. The only thing we ordered were appetizers and it was incredibly slow. We flag down another waitress to even get our check and that took forever. The worse part about it is I ask for a manager and it takes 5 mins. The manager takes another 5 mins to get the waitress. The manager never even came to the table and waived at us as we left. What king of establishment is this?! A manager that doesn’t care with terrible servers. That’s why it was so dead on a Friday night. Not worth your time and I’m so pissed that I even wasted a Friday night trying to eat here!!!

We came here in the late afternoon to grab drinks and outside seating looked like a fun place to people watch. It was happy hour so I ordered a whiskey coke. The boy got a bottled IPA based on our server’s recommendation. We took a sip of our drinks and simultaneously informed each other «this is gross» haha! The coke in my drink was super flat and his beer tasted like how feet smell. We briefly debated whether or not to be polite and continue to suffer or just cut our losses and opted for the latter.
I can’t comment on the food but if a whiskey and coke can’t be decently poured I don’t have much confidence in the restaurant.

Haven’t eaten at BBQ joints in Texas and at Shivers down in Homestead I was excited to have another BBQ place so close. I was very disappointed after trying this place. Their ribs were not that great, neither was their pulled pork. Their BBQ sauces weren’t anything special at all.
Their service was great though!

Nice place, good atmosphere.
The waitress was very nice, good recommendations.
I just was not fond of the barbecue sauce, it was so salty and the ribs were not fall of the bone like the ones from Flanigans.
On the other hand, the corn bread, guacamole, and fries were amazing.
Would not return.

Came here for lunch on a Thursday with my coworkers. I had been dying to try Brother Jimmy’s mostly because I love the vibe at BBQ places (country music FTW!)
It did not disappoint. Our large group was quickly seated and served. After lots and lots of contemplation, I decided to get the BBQ burger. It was a difficult choice because I like pretty much everything on the menu AND I was pleasantly surprised at the very decent prices.
My BBQ burger was pretty good! Not the most amazing burger I’ve had but definitely a solid choice. I got a side of mac & cheese which I must say was the only disappointment — I found that it was very very dry and rather tasteless. Next time I’ll try a different side.
I loved the feel of the place and the cute/​funny/​typical BBQ place decorations. I LOVE that they were playing AWESOME country music! I also loved the prices — my check came out to a whooping $ 8.50, pretty darn good!
We didn’t drink but I did notice a ton of drink specials. I will definitely be back.

So, we decided on BJ’S and oh my glad we did. $ 5 Margaritas!!! $ 10 bucket of delicious wings!!!, fries with cheddar and bacon! Holy moses!!! And game on tv! With songs in between! Lots of fun!!!
The wings aren’t breaded and are very flavorful. The fries are excellent with ranch dressing to dip them in, and the margaritas are made perfectly. We will be back for sure!

I was in the mood for some BBQ and my boyfriend wanted to see the Mayweather fight on Saturday we had called to see if the fight was playing we were pleasantly surprised to know they had ordered it and was playing in the inside and out of the restaurant. To begin the parking in Dolphin Mall is horindous especially at night time around the restaurants hopefully when they open the parking garage it will get better. When we got there the restaurant was not packed we decided to sit outside where the bar was they had loud music that was driving me nuts. The pork ribs were OK nothing out of this world but what really killed the platter was the mashed potatoes with there suposite gravy. There corn bread was also ok there salad was better then there actual ribs. I will def. Not come back for anything in this restaurant other then having some drinks outside and that will be only if the other restaurants are packed.

Walking in your welcommed with loud party katie perry teenage dream beat. The menu is diverse. With funky drinks & bbq meal options.

BEST SPOT AROUND! Had dinner here and ate some life changing Nachos and had some delicious mojitos from our AMAZING bartender Kitty!
I was skeptical about this place because I dont eat meat but Kitty recommended a great salad and was very knowledgeable about the menu. All in all I was happy we went and will definitely be returning!

I love stopping in here after shopping in the mall. I usually just sit at the bar, have a couple of drinks and get one of their bbq sandwiches. And I love the hush puppies! I even have a favorite bartender, Kitty! She’s hilarious! And she knows how to make my drink perfectly!
It’s a great place to watch a game and hang out with Kitty!

This review is solely based off of my service/​bar experience.
I have been to Brother Jimmy’s only twice to have cocktails, and both times I have gone the service has been spectacular! Maybe they don’t have the most «creative» cocktail list, but they never fail to present a special or treat you kindly. In comparison to other chains at Dolphin Mall & Sunset Place, they have a decent beer and whiskey selection. The music is always lively and the staff seems to be having a great time. Most recently, I visited the Dolphin Mall location with Drew as my bartender. He was kind, helpful, and made well whiskey actually taste good– I KNOW RIGHT?! Overall, I will be visiting again, and look forward to trying their food.

We’re locals living a bit up north of Miami but decided to try Brother Jimmy’s since we’re originally from New York City and visited their NYC locations numerous times (both Upper West Side and Union Square locations).
We got there around 12pm on July 3, 2015 just when they’re opened up for lunch at 11:30am. Place seem pretty lively but not packed. The hostess promptly seated us and a server asked what do we want to drink. Ok, service seems pretty good. We asked what comes with the ribs lunch platter and she (I think her name is Knakesha) said it comes with one side. So, we each ordered a rib platter since we’re ordering hush puppies as appetizers and the rib platters come with 4 ribs each so it’s perfect.
Our appetizer came out as the normal time which was around 10 – 15 mins. Then after we finished our appetizers, a few minutes the rib platters came out. Wow the servings were HUGE! Then we counted that there were 6 ribs per platter. Woah, that’s a lot of food! So we asked our server why was there 6 ribs instead of 4? She said the kitchen placed the wrong order so we’re fine. Uh… ok. Still skeptical. So later we asked again and she said she typed in the order wrong so we had the regular platter instead of the lunch platters. «Sorry.» So… the bill came and there was a BIG price difference. Instead of paying $ 14.99 per platter, it was $ 21.99 each! What can we do now? We’re done eating. We both had leftovers which was exactly 2 ribs each that we couldn’t finish. Give them back the 2 ribs each because they put our order in wrong?
So we didn’t want to make a big fuss about it because it’s the July 4^th weekend and we were enjoying our weekend off from work.
What they could have done was fix the difference because it was their mistake. But somehow they dismissed it and we were «forced» to pay more on their fault.
Overall we would NOT come back here again. Even if they apologize we’re not coming back. We’re just telling everyone else to be careful when coming here. I mean we’re ripped off about $ 14. That’s like one lunch platter! Plus the quality and flavor of the ribs does not do the Brother Jimmy’s legacy proud. I’ve had better at their NYC locations.
So, AVOID THIS PLACE unless you have lots of money to waste.

Went here with a group and had a solid experience. After reading the reviews I was a little nervous but someone in my group of 10 recommended the place and it really wasn’t up to me.
The atmosphere is like a lone star mixed with a smoky bones mixed with a sports bar.
I ordered the marbled brisket with Mac and cheese. We had cornbread hush puppie things and nachos for an app.
The marbled brisket was absolutely to die for. Just incredible. I didn’t need any of the 3 sauces they provide on the table. The Mac and cheese was ok but was over shadowed by the main dish. I did not try the side dish of corn bread. I was full.
My buddy had the baby back ribs. They were good and the meat fell right off the bone but the sauce was very different. Hard to explain. The brisket was better. He even agreed but he liked the ribs a lot.
The service was 5 stars. Vanessa was on top of things and very attentive. She catered to everything our group needed. The management gave us two free pitchers of some drink for literally no reason. This was really nice of them, to bad it was a work function :)
I wish I lived closer.
Now we went during the NBA finals and it was really loud like expected and the sports bar side shown. So be prepared if you go during an important sporting event. It was not packed on a Thursday.

I graded this place just based on my dish and my experience alone.

DO GET: their bucket of BBQ wings.
DON’T GET: pulled pork [a little too dry for my taste].
I’ve gone here a number of times, because I’m so impressed by their customer service and their food. The service was AMAZING and the BBQ wings were the best I’ve ever had. Their hush puppies are also really good. I’m truly impressed by the level of care and hospitality they provided to me and all of their guests. They even had a raffle where I won shots and a dessert!
This place also has huge TVs, and is a great place to watch a game. In this big city, it’s hard to find a place that is so warm and inviting but also a lot of fun and this place has it all!

A friend of mine brought me here. I’m glad he did. Great first impression of the place with prompt service and good food.
Not your typical lackluster bar food. These guys put some effort into it so they’d stand out. Plenty of beer and booze on hand, and they do military discounts for those still in uniform.
Overall, good food, great drinks, and bring your friends.
