Everything we ordered was flavorless, and the noodles were undercooked.

If you want authentic Japanese, and more than sushi. This place is a treasure. It is small, friendly, and has many specials. The appetizers and side dishes are a refreshing change from the usual fare found in Japanese restaurants. There is a large assortment of noodles and some dishes that can’t be found anywhere else. It’s just plain fun to eat here

PRICESAREWRONGONMENUONLINE so expect to pay an additional 1 – 3 $ for every item. Which is really annoying to have to show up and dish out more cash by surprise. I prob should have spoken up cause I would imagine like a retail store they should honor their listed prices. I don’t know if this was on purpose or they just haven’t updated the website. So it started there… It was my first time eating here, I ordered take out for lunch. Perhaps that was my fault, for ordering at a place the first time and not eating in but the reviews were really good so I didn’t think I could go wrong. The tuna tataki came on a Styrofoam tray wrapped in saran wrap for $ 13! Probably trying to save money on closed containers but it just dosen’t look very appetizing. The taste of the fish was fine… nothing crazy as some have raved on about.(Can’t believe someone said this is better than Makoto LOL) and the ginger dressing was kind of bland. All in all I will not be returning here. I hope they take this as constructive criticism, cause i’m just beinnnn honnesstttt(future voice). Bye now :)

Great lunch specials. Delicious bento boxes. The onigari salmon and salmon fish eggs are really good. The grilled mackerel was nice as well. The shrimp chive dumplings were lightly pan-fried and not oily. They were very fresh, packed with veggies.

Defiantly a place to visit for real authentic Japanese Cuisine. This is not your typical sushi place… The staff is friendly, courteous and visit just a few times and they’ll know what you like the next time. You’ll feel like you’re in a restaurant somewhere in Japan… Must try the grilled Hamachi Fish Cheeks.

Hubby was in the mood for sushi on a Saturday night. We decided to try out this place based on Unilocal reviews. We stepped in the door at 10:06pm, fully aware that they close at 10:30pm. The place was empty besides a couple and another table of 4. We stepped in assuming we would be seated let alone be greeted, but the first thing they say is «Kitchen is closed, we’re not taking anymore orders.» Bummer. Good thing though because it allowed us to try Green Plate Asian Bistro that was 3 minutes away where we had a much better experience.

Very good home made food Love their kimchee soup! Most people don’t know about this place or just pass by, but when you find it you’ll probably go again on a week night when you just don’t want to dress up and just want something close to home.

Last word first, Best Sushi in Miami. I mean it. Other top spots of mine are Zuma, Makoto and Matzuri but this little hole in the wall, a shopping plaza spot exceeds them all. Do not judge by interior modest decoration. This place has been my usual lunch spot now for the past 2 years. Super consistent, Not even once they dissapointed me. Almost half of the tables are Japanese clients which is a great sign. Ramen is not my thing so can’t say large words for it, but Sushi, is so fresh, you almost feel fish was just caught same morning. Sashimi teishoku is a great way to sample all the fish sashimi, kaisen don is amazing. For people who likes little fried fish, do not miss the fried little blue runners, imported from Japan. They have all kinds of daily specials to try. great service, very reasonable prices.Enjoy.

This review is for the lunch experience only. They get very busy during lunch but service is still great. You never have to wait to get the menu, water, food, check, etc. I stick to the daily Japanese lunch special which usually consist of a cooked main item and a few sides. Not everything is Japanese in the daily special(I’ve gotten Kimchee before) but it’s always delicious. The best part is that it changes daily so every time I have lunch there it’s generally something different.

This is my lunch spot! I try to go at least two times a week depending on my schedule. I would have to say the best thing about this place is the service and environment! Don’t get me wrong the food is fantastic; I would say this is one of the few genuine sushi bars I have found in South Florida. But I have to tell you, every time I walk through the door its like I’m home! The staff is fantastic, accommodating and the food is extremely well priced! I feel guilty even going anywhere else for food! Defiantly try this place if you love sushi and authentic food! If it’s in the week, I may see you there!

I was hesitant at first but walked into a packed restaurant. I hate when sushi rolls have a ton of rice on them. This was not the case here. Everything was fresh and reasonably priced. I definitely want to come back to try more dishes.

Needed ramen closer to home and discovered Maido. While not as good as Go Bistro the Tonkotsu was still tasty. It’s good to have a more convenient spot for Japanese fair. Extra broth charge was a bit steep and my mouth was left a bit salty afterwards. The draft Asahi paired well. Service was slow but helpful. Don’t let the photos throw you off for the portions, the spoons are really big, seriously. I’ll probably come back to try the rest of their offerings.

I’d start off with saying that I’ve had better quality before, however, given the bento lunches are such a steal and customer service was good, I’m going to inform you that this place would actually be 3.5 stars… If only we could do that though. I had the sashimi bento box which included miso soup, ginger salad, a Cali roll(8 pieces), shrimp & vegetable tempura with the tempura sauce, and sashimi(6 thick slices) — all for only $ 9.50. It’s the cheapest bento I’ve ever had and it wasn’t so bad. The tuna took some gnawing but the salmon was good enough and the yellowtail was okay. I absolutely love their ginger dressing. My honey had the kaisen-don bowl(assorted sashimi on a bed of rice) for only $ 15 and it had a little bit of everything. I really liked their uni and eel(it was our first time eating uni). So for what it was all worth for lunch, it was pretty good. I wouldn’t come for dinner though; would rather take advantage of their lunch specials!

Great sushi and sashimi combo, but I’ve had better — certainly in Japan and Okinawa — and CA. Strip mall ambience, so there… Wouldn’t go out of the way, but a solid choice if you want sushi near SOUTHCOM.

Best Sushi and authentic Japanese food in town. Their lunch is very inexpensive less than $ 10. Draft Asahi !! Go there quite often with the family, owners and waiters are very friendly.

The ramen at Maido was pretty awful. It was the saltiest soup I have ever had in my life and I’ve eaten a lot of high sodium one bowl meals in my lifetime. I could have forgiven the error if it was salty and scrumptious but it was not. They need to find a new source for their bamboo too. It was extremely fibrous. It felt like I was chewing on tree bark. Young bamboo can be delicious, but I did not find that here. There were three paper thin pieces of pork in my bowl. I could barely taste it. Thank goodness the noodles were alright as well as the bean sprouts. Awful outing overall. I was tempted to(but didn’t) ask the server for a bowl of hot/boiled water to add to the broth since it was so salty. We also tried some of their lunch time sashimi special. Sadly the tuna was a bit stringy. 2 stars. I can’t honestly say it gets an «A-OK» rating.

If you leave in Miami, come to Maido for its authentic Japanese ramen. Suggestion /tip: if you are indecisive I would suggest you to get the kimchi ramen — here it is like a tonkotsu ramen but with filthy cents extra you will get kimchi on top. Not a bad deal for your buck. For anything authentic Japanese, besides the bunch Americanized(fake) sushi chains which Americans like, it is hard to find an authentic Japanese restaurant like maido in south Florida. No, I’m not referring to the asian fusion or ‘sushi’ in restaurant names, those are targeted to Americans. I am referring to Asians liking real Japanese cuisine. Food: tonkotsu ramen, kimchi ramen, agedashi tofu, and more. On top of this maido is centered in the heart of doral. You will find this place easily.

Update — January 09, 2015 I keep coming back because the Ramen and Udon noodle soups are really the best I have had in my neighborhood. The service has improved remarkably and you actually feel like a welcomed guest. The sushi is fresh and more in line with the traditional concept of minimal rice, the dab of wasabi, and the presentation is always a work of art. I am upgrading my rating to four stars in light of all these changes. If you’re in the area and have that hankering for traditional Ramen or sushi, this is my best recommendation. Here’s two tips… *Slurp a lot! When it comes to noodles, nothing says you love the soup more than loud slurps! *Tip in cash! There’s a lot of hard work that goes into making sure you have a wonderful dining experience. Nothing says«You did a great job!» like a good cash tip!

I love sushi and I’m always willing to try new places. This restaurant is located in a shopping center in Doral. The menu is varied and includes a lot of small Japanese plates in addition to sushi and sashimi items. I particularly prefer simple nigiri or rolls and tend to stay away from Americanized versions of sushi usually found on most restaurants which include chunks of cream cheese or spicy mayo. So after perusing the pictures posted by other Unilocalers I decided this was my type of place, we headed there and ordered the sushi moriawase, a side of japanese pickles, sake and a couple of hot dishes. The food and the service were good and the prices were reasonable.

i’m a party of 1 for lunch so its easy for me to get sat… especially if there’s a bar area. I went in for lunch(around 1ish) and sat immediately at the bar(big groups, you might have to wait a bit) I ordered the bento box. I’ve honestly had better boxes but you can’t beat the price, $ 9.50. and $ 3.50 so a small warm sake, which is like the PERFECT size for lunch. the sushi wasn’t bad, the miso soup was good(not too salty) overall, I’d come back to this place. :thumbs up:
