Peggy’s seems to be under new management and is now flying the rainbow colors. I have hope!

I’ve been in here twice now. I’m a dive-bar aficionado, so consider that when evaluating this review. Cons: No credit cards. They do have an ATM in there, but I love to use plastic for everything(and subsequently earn miles). Bottles are expensive($ 5.50 for a Sam or Magners). No draught beer. Pros: Dive atmosphere. A truly local joint. Bartenders who serve the patrons, and do it well. After 1 a.m., it’s the only joint open on the Ave., so people gravitate toward here. It’s certainly not the yuppified Boston you find everywhere else in the city nowadays.(I grew up here and I’m a yuppie, so I know how places have turned over in recent years.) I dig the realness.

this is my favorite dive bar in the entire city. why? because you can show up here at 10:30 on a saturday and you might find a handful of people drowned in a great dj’s tunes. i don’t even like top 40, and this man can spin some good beats. HOWEVER — when the clock strikes midnight, the deluge of people walk on in and suddenly the party is started and you’re outside chain smoking with the rest of the bostonians in on the secret. it’s in the middle of the not-so-great part of dorchester, but honestly, i like that. this place has character. i always feel safe walking in here because the bouncers are enormous, and the bartenders don’t take any sh*t attitude. while they might have had a tarnished reputation lately for profiling, i’m thinking there might be two sides of the story because one of the bouncers is dark skinned and they let in my flamboyant friend. the only time i have ever been denied from entering here was because i wasn’t wearing a real t-shirt(didn’t know there was a dress code? so they gave me this XL t-shirt from the mass lottery– HA!) and i understand that. i think that one should definitely take into consideration the location of this bar and respect that accordingly. have a bud light and a shot and get yourself a pool stick or your butt on the dance floor. this is southie/dorchester realness.

Don’t judge a book by the cover! It looks like a hole in the wall but its actually kind of fun with the right group of friends who are pretty much down for whatever as long as it includes a couple of beers and great dance music! Worth checking out on a chill night when there’s not much else going on in the city.

The place is a nice hole in the wall, but I will never go there again because of the questionable practice of blocking people of minority races from entering while allowing entrance to people who are obviously heavily inebriated.

Oh Peggy’s I have had quite the hangover from you and your late night allowances. Kind of expensive but to stay out late and not irritate my roommate it’s worth it. Just make sure you’re not too loaded when you get there or you just wasted your time coming to Dot Ave

My friend and I arrived here a little after nine to finish up a sox game. It was dead. There were probably 5 people total. We hardly believed our bartender when he said, «just wait until midnight, you’ll hardly be able to move it’s so packed. And behind those doors, there’s dance floor and a dj.» We had a great time even though there wasn’t anyone there, we sat and talked with our bartender for about an hour and a half. He even ended up giving us a couple free beers! At about 10:30 these giant doors were rolled up, and 80’s music started playing, not too loud, but just enough to remind you that it’s a Saturday night and you shouldn’t be sitting at the bar. Dance lights were going and by midnight the dj had a mix that included the latest top 40 with n’sync, madonna, and michael jackson thrown in there! And the bartender did not lie, as 11:45 came around people started coming out of the woodwork! The music was turned up and next thing we knew the place was packed with all sorts of people playing pool, getting their grind on, sitting on couches, just having a good time. They had cheap bar food and our bartender told us that if you come in on Wednesday and buy 3 drinks, your food is free!

Figured I would update my review of Peggy O’s. It’s a great place to have fun, always playing some great music and there’s always a great mix of people(culturally, lifestyle, etc.). I’ve been here with friends from all different backgrounds, city kids, kids from the ‘burbs, I’ve seen friends that are an inter-racial couple here, I’ve hung out with gay friends here… never once have I, or anyone I was with, have any problems. I hope the best for Peggy O’s in the fate of the future.

This place is the epitome of dive bar: Grimy, cheap, filled with hard core Dot locals, greasy fries available on request, and a banged up old pool table that slopes slightly to the left. Just off the main bar room is a reasonably sized«dance» floor(it’s really just a room with no furniture in it) — what makes it so special is the disco ball. When 10pm rolls around and the ball starts spinning, this place transforms into a hilarious and fun venue with cheesy music and happy dancers. Worth dropping in I’d say.

Kind of love this place. Open later than other bars around and generally just a good drunken time. Large dance floor and they play good music. Lots of people dancing and making fools of themselves so it makes for good people watching or just joining in with them. There is a cover and the bar only takes cash which is lame but there is an ATM inside.

After walking/driving past this place numerous times, we decided to give it a shot. we were looking for a local place to have some drinks and shoot some pool — it was exactly what we were looking for. Cheap drinks, cash bar, friendly bartender. It was mid afternoon on a Saturday so it was pretty dead, there were a few regulars sitting at the bar watching TV. I kinda want to check out this place late night when the disco ball is spinning — it could be awesome.

it’s your average Sunday night, it’s 1AM and your shitfaced. naturally you say to yourself, where can I go to get steak tips, fries, cheap cocktails and dance to r&b while watching myself look super sexy in a giant mirror? more specifically I want my bartender to grill and fry before my eyes from behind the bar, and I want the entire establishment to reek of marijuana. oh right-peggy o’neils it is then. i’ve got 5 on it.

I don’t know about this place. There’s no parking and people are already well beyond the limit when they go there. The place always seems full of rowdy individuals who seem eager to start trouble. If your OK with that that’s fine but enter at your own risk.

We met up with some friends for drinks and all around merry making on a cold Saturday night. I wasn’t too impressed with the beer selection(Bud, Bud Light, Amstel Light, Coors and Corona,) but there was a pretty full bar of the hard stuff to choose from. There was also a pool table, a decent sized dance floor, and some nice little couches to lounge on. I left semi early(around 1am) when the place was still a ghost town. Apparently, after I left, the flood gates opened and the place was packed until 2. Maybe one day I’ll be a night owl and get to enjoy late night Peggy Oneil’s.
