3.5 stars… Well done, Doug Deli. I enjoyed a roast beef hero here recently and the meat was commendably rare and generously portioned. I skipped the upcharge for lettuce(really?), but I did pay for cheese, which never made it onto the sandwich! How could you do that to me? Ah well, I’ll survive. Besides, I’m more concerned about your prices than the quality of your food. I also got some containers of tuna salad and potato salad. Both are touted as being«the best,» and they were fine, but let’s not get carried away. I could easily make both at home with some quality mayo and albacore tuna or(the correct) potatoes. And both were vastly overpriced. How do you charge $ 6.99 for a ½ pound(small container) of tuna salad? Not happening again guys, sorry. But I will back back for another hero I’m sure, and probably another square of the coffee cake they stock from a high-end bakery. So good job with that, at least!

One of the better neighborhood establishments in Douglaston. Food is fresh, service with a smile, and try any of their signature sandwiches. I love their signature Arnold Palmer iced tea. And they have an awesome variety of hot soups. My personal favorite is the tomato. Their snack prices can be a little pricey so always ask before throwing it in your order.

I ordered a few sandwiches and a drink. I was extremely surprised when they told me the final price. Also, my order was completed inaccurately. I think the environment is great, but the pricing needs work.

I saw the picture of the ham and cheese and dwcided to try it. Got a roast beef for my dad and a ham and cheese for myself. Taste wise, there was nothing special. It was a taste, a bit bland. The thing that bothered me was that I ordered a hero, so in the middle there was average amount of ham and cheese but on the edge and the rear part of the bread. it was just bread. So basically they give you a while hero bread sandwich but it feels like only half the sandwich is actually filled with meat. The greatest part of this deli is their potato salad. Decided to try it and I’m glad that I did. It’s the best I’ve tasted so far. Kind of reminded me of school potato salad with a better taste. I would go buy a sandwich from elsewhere but would get the potato salad from here.

This gets 5 stars for being one of the last old school delis, the kind I grew up with. The Boars Head, rice pudding, jello, cole slaw the neon sign and NY best potato salad. I didn’t get to have a hero here since I was on a 3 hour bike ride but I did have the potato salad, which was very good. I wish that more deli were exactly like this one but they are fading

My family’s been coming to this deli since the early 70’s, when we moved to the neighborhood. I lived out of area for years, but moved back about a year ago. I started going to the deli regularly shorty after I returned. All of the guys behind the counter are very friendly and many know me by name. The food is fresh and all of the soups, hot foods and salads are homemade. My personal favorites are the mac and cheese, veggie tuna and health salad. The chili is pretty awesome too.

My parents moved to Douglaston in the late ’70’s and I’ve been coming in here ever since, mostly for their salads but also to pick up a few knishes for the ride home to NJ. Nice Carolina cole slaw and the best health salad you’ll find anywhere.

Great old school deli at a time when most mom and pop shuts are struggling to survive. I just moved to douglaston and tried this place out. Had a chicken cutlet hero with their carolina slaw. Both were excellent and fresh. The staff are really nice and when you walk in here it feels like a real NY deli.

An institution in this neighborhood that continues to make quality products every day. I have been coming here since my family moved to Douglaston 17 years ago. SOme of the same friendly faces are still there and the staff that surrounds them are brought up with the same type of spirit the«old-timers» have. They know a lot of the names in the area, but even strangers are treated just as nice. The sandwiches are always excellent and huge. The salads are truly the best around.

Love the food here! Not many deli’s left that still make the salads and sandwiches the traditional way. This deli has been around for a long time and it’s nice that they remain unchanged and focus on quality!

not too much to say — it’s a deli and I only swung by to get coffee before the Unilocal event. short walk from the Douglaston LIRR, which is convenient for commuters. $ 1.45 for a small coffee — giddy up, Jerry. usual mix of soups and sandwiches on hand here. I always like to find places that still have that old-school New York feel. the menu is the old lit-from-behind style, which I really like for some reason.

Deli… in every meaning of the word. Homemade turkey? what? In NY and your not using classic Boar’s Head oven gold? Get the F%&$ outta here!!! It was delicious!!! Forget Katz… You walk in this quite little shop, it’s clean and the old school wood paneling welcome you in.

As you walk into this deli you get a sense of community and care for the items they serve on their menu. Cauldrons of soup on the counter, an array of baked rolls, heros and bagels, and a slew of salad options greet you as you walk down the gallery of this quaint deli. What impressed me was their homemade items, oven roasted turkey, roast beef and«steam» item specials ranging from meatballs to BBQ chicken… But let’s talk about the real stuff… Rice pudding with… wait for it… Toasted meringue on top!!! I tried their homemade turkey sandwich on a roll, Carolina cole slaw and this decadent rice pudding. The turkey was delicious, didn’t taste like cold cuts, and wasn’t too salty. The Carolina cole slaw was sweet and tangy and perfectly crunchy. The rice pudding was cool, very vanilla-y and creamy… just the way I like it! The meringue was spongey, chewy and slightly crispy texture was a perfect touch to cut the pudding’s mush factor. For a NY deli, it is rather on the high-end pricey side, but sometimes you just have to pay more for quality!

The salads are absolutely phenomenal. I have yet to have a better potato salad anywhere. Health salad, macaroni salad, and cole slaw are also frequent pick ups of mine. Although the salads are the main reason I come here(buy them by the pound!), the sandwiches are also good. The only reasons to not give 5 stars are the terrible parking(you might find it best to go with two people so that one can wait in the car) and the expensive prices.

I heard about a good deal right around town. For lunch? I’m down. $ 3.99 for a sandwich indeed. But when i came by at 1 i was a little less pleased. Much of their options were out of stock! Salisbury steak, Swedish meatballs were gone! I asked the counter what i should devour. They said the next best was their meatball sandwich. I did partake in this option. The meatballs was a little salty, but with good consistency. The sauce was just… bland. The Kaiser roll was really nothing special at all, the type you can get at Stop & Shop everywhere. Overall i felt like this was a bit bland. I probably needed to pick up a .50cent bag of chips to make this a lunch. But for $ 4 i can’t complain. I’ll give this deal one more shot because the rest of the sandwiches seem rather expensive.

As far as sandwiches go this place is above par for the Douglaston area. That being said, I had their chili soup for the first time today and I’m probably going to go back tomorrow to get more. Deli is very clean and the staff is friendly. A bit overpriced though.
