First timer, and loved it. It’s a super tiny place, but places like this one are always a good choice! Food is delicious.

This place is really an oasis of deliciousness.
I highly recommend the won ton soup. Simply the best soup i have had.
The Mongolian beef is full of flavor.
Their spicy salt shrimp is definitely a favorite.
The house special fried rice is always a great introductory dish if it’s your first time here.
Their fried won ton is always fun to eat especially when it’s dipped in the sweet and sour sauce mm-​mmm.
All in all this place is good. Highly recommended. The price is fair. The staff are friendly. And there are Far more dishes that i still need to try. But hey, don’t take my word for it. Actually yes, take my word on it.

I have been coming here to eat for about 15 years and will continue to until the day i die or they close, which ever comes first. Sure, the place is small and still has the same Everything (tables, décor, menus, etc.) but the food has also not changed and continues to be great. There is a small language barrier when ordering (Chinese female owner) but just be patient and you will be rewarded with great tasting Chinese food. Let me add that at least this is a Chinese food place that does not have Hispanics making the food.

Best delicious Chinese food in the area. Friendly family owned restaurant, always with a smile. Great quality and price. Next time we are gonna try the orange chicken because it looks delicious!

Never been here, so figured we could go in and get some help ordering. NOPE! THAT WASN’T THE CASE. We asked if we could order combos and the lady answered rudely that we couldnt. DIDN’T EAT AND NEVER COMING BACK.

I have been eating at the Hong Kong chef since the late 80s/​early 90s and the food is always delicious!!! It is a very small restaurant, that has never updated a thing, which I love! I love the nostalgia, the familiar smells coming from the kitchen. I love the swishing sound the hot wok makes and gentle taping of the metal. I love the hot jasmine tea, and fried rice. The bbq egg and pork is a must have. It is an omelette stuffed full of chaShu pork and topped with a delicious salty brown sauce. Love their pork chops with spicy salt, love their beef and broccoli, love the egg drop soup and chow main noodles! When I visit LA, this is on my top 3 places to visit!!! So I finally made it here to try their Hong Kong style dishes.
I suppose I was really expecting something better to the eyes inside this hole in the wall type eatery, than what I saw.
First, I was so thrilled that I finally get to try their food due to the raving reviews.
But I was truly disappointed & am really surprised that they have an «A» from the dept. of Health.
I mean talking about having only one person doing the orders, money handling, & server of the food to the tables.
It is horrendous !!!
The open for viewers Kitchen really is unkempt with dirty dishes laying everywhere on the floor.
It was about 90 degrees outside on Saturday & they have NO AC in the whole hole.
There is one chef & an asst chef in the kitchen ‚& a one woman band
Woman who tries to do all the customer services herself
The food I ordered were:
Seafood pan fried noodles: it did not have the fried noodle consistency & texture that I expected & am used to eating from authentic Asian places.
Orange chicken had tough cuts of Chxn, not the best tender chicken, that is nice to the palate.
Rather, it was hard to eat,
The sauce was okay, too tangy, but the tough chicken was the deal breaker
I don’t think I will be back.

Glad I checked Unilocal for somewhere local. It’s pretty hard to find if you’re driving I have lived in this area my whole life and passed it on my way to the mall so many times. There’s not a lot of seating but it wasn’t very busy when I went so it wasn’t a problem. Good prices great lunch menu. They give you a lot of food. I ended up having some tasty leftovers the next day.

After reading the reviews I had higher expectations. It could have been that I ordered the wrong thing. The eggrolls were greasy and the chicken in blackbean and chili sauce was a complete mess.
On a good note the service was excellent.

My mother brought me here and my daughter 3 years ago. We fell in love with the food here! It’s delicious! I brought my husband and he liked the food as well. We have been coming here ever since. It’s not over priced like other places.

Love food places like this, small yet the food is delicious and the service is great.

WOW. They accept credit/​debit cards now! Just had dinner at our favorite restaurant. We use to eat here at least 2 times a week when our office was in Downey, but being in Riverside now, its a special occasion when we are in the area. There is no comparison to cook to order chinese food. Our favorites: Pan Fried seafood noodles, his crunchy and tender pork chops, seafood egg drop soup. Start with his shrimp appetizers. They are not 80% breading/​20% shrimp.
In almost 20 years of coming to Hong Kong chef, I think we’ve tried everything on the menu and other of Lee’s specialties that are not. Visiting Yen and Lee is like dining with family. Can’t wait to be back.

As I sat here thinking about my gains. I was blessed with the presence of amazing food. I enjoyed my meal very much. The staff here is amazing and very friendly. I will be returning for more.

Holy crap! My favorite Chinese food EVER!!! I’ll be SO sad if they ever close.
Only issues: my favorite item, lemon chicken, is not as good as it used to be. Also, cash only. Other than that, this place is GREAT!

I love the husband and wife team! Her mom used to take care of us but has now retired. Hard working honest restaurant fresh ingredients and flavor to match!

This a small little hole in wall place. It’s doesn’t look appealing from the outside but don’t judge it until you try it. My son and I had dinner there tonight and it was good. Food was fresh made to order. The hot tea was really good too. We order dinner for two with fried rice (pork & shrimp) chicken with lemon sauce and mongolian beef. Our order came with one egg roll, one fried shrimp (big) and wonton soup each of us. All for around $ 24. Service was really good too. Friendly people. I was definitely be back.
