All around great dinner experience. The food came out in a timely fashion, was delicious and we got 10% off just for sending a text message. After we had finished our meal and were waiting for our check, the sushi chef sent a little dessert our way. It was wonderful.

We go here often and the food is authentic, fresh, and excellent overall. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but most times fine. You must walk up stairs to the main dining area. One of the better restaurants in the area for sure. Recommended!

When you pull into the parking lot, you arrive at an unexpected historic-looking building. Enter through the left door and you’re(eventually) greeted and led upstairs to the main dining area. The downstairs sushi bar area was empty when I arrived but had a few patrons on my way out. Service was undeniably slow on this particular Wednesday because there seemed to only be 3 employees operating the whole restaurant: one waiter, one lady bussing tables/working back of house, and one chef. My boyfriend and I ordered a mini sushi tower with yellowtail on special to start. Then we decided to split a chirashi bowl and 2 rolls. We had also attempted to order an a la carte uni, but unfortunately they did not have any this night. Not sure how often they do carry it… We had chosen the Corona roll and the Ninja roll, which blew us away. The unique and subtle flavors of the lime in the Corona roll and sweet/spiciness of the Ninja roll were unexpected. My boyfriend said it was some of the best«fancy» rolls he’s had(especially of the Corona). Then our chirashi and mini sushi tower arrived together. Unfortunately these two were a little lackluster for us. The chirashi featured mostly half-pieces of sashimi(at a full-piece price). The sushi tower is nothing special. It’s completely overwhelmed by sauces, kani salad, and a warm wild rice. None of the textures or flavors lend themselves to emphasize the fish. I’m very glad we got the mini version to try because I would totally recommend skipping this signature dish. Overall, the ambiance is updated and clean with a beautiful chandelier in the center. The service is slow because they seem understaffed. And the fancy rolls are the star of the sushi here.

For a weekly sushi eater, I have a rule that I do not get sushi on Mondays because it is usually a day you see a lot of specials — buy one get one, etc. this is due to the establishments clearing last weeks inventory. Hence the specials. I feel like some of these places should get rid of everything on Sunday’s and be closed mondays. Some really good places do this. A friend convinced me to go to this place I have never tried on a Monday and she knew I am picky with fresh sushi and the overall experience both in presentation, taste and creativity, not to mention the menu selection. This place has a great menu selection. I will definitely be going back. The service was a bit slow for us being only one of two tables. The ginger salad was nothing to write home about with the dressing and it used iceberg lettuce. Big portions but pricey. Wonderful presentation but definitely looked a lot better than the taste. Although it was not bad tasting, the was a hint of fishiness throughout. Not too bad and it could be the fact that it’s a Monday. I will update my review next time I am back and I already count on adding more stars?

This restaurant has great service and potential but the sushi is lackluster, with no heart. It’s as if the chefs were cooking at gunpoint. Adequate at best.

This place was a big disappointment. We chose this place because it had of great reviews, which frankly, I don’t get. The service was pretty good, contrary to what many others have said. What I take issue with is the food! My sister and I live in Colorado, and were visiting family for Thanksgiving. I had a hankering for sushi, so we picked a place based on Unilocal/google reviews. Yuck. I had one roll that was somewhat good, and other than that, we were roundly disappointed. The sushi was not particularly fresh, and I honestly came away just hoping not to get sick. My sister didn’t even like her miso soup, and how hard can that be to get right? The prices are really high, especially considering how mediocre their sushi is. The atmosphere is… odd. They can’t decide if they’re an izakaya or a grand old stone Philadelphia building. Anyway aside from the good service, this place actually rounds out the bottom of the list of all the places I have gone for sushi – skip it!

Can’t believe we’ve never tried this place before. Outstanding! Went on a Friday night and surprisingly it wasn’t crowded. Folks are missing out. I started with their signature sushi tower(the small one) and it was really really good. I can’t even begin to imagine how big the large one was. My wife had the bulgolgi and even through my head cold it smelled delicious. The meat was flavorful and tender, and not overly fatty. Our daughter had the tempura and it was crispy, not greasy and super flavorful. I had a medium 10 piece assorted sushi as my main and everything was fresh and delicious. The individual pieces of fish were some of the largest I’ve ever seen on a sushi plate. Highly recommended.

Read the reviews at Unilocal and figured the food was really good and could worth the visit. Ended up getting to the restaurant with my husband 15 min before closing. There was no costumers anymore and were about to star cleaning up everything. When we entered the lady told us they would be closing in 15 min. I asked her: what about take out?! They promptly gave us a smile and YES we brought to the hotel a delicious, well made and fresh japanese food! Try Hawaii and Fiji rolls!

Go here for lunch often. Bento boxes are definitely the way to go, inexpensive but comes with a good amount of food including soup and salad. Only problem, but depends on when you arrive(ie before or after 12) service tends to slows down due to limited number of servers.

Celebrating 47 years of marriage at our favorite local restaurant. Having a tough time ordering anything different from the umami sampler — ninja, dragon rolls and mini salmon tower. All beautifully presented. My wife’s Dresher Roll was spicy-sweet delight. Business was slow so we had a great chat with Courtney about the way they select their fish. They have blind tasting to get the best and freshest meats. Also, we were warned, «Jalapeños are hot just now — we grow our own and, for some reason they’re hotter than usual…» Go soon and often to eat here. You won’t regret it.

Really great sushi if a bit on the expensive side. Service is generally prompt and friendly and they will give good advice on how much to order. Some very creative sushi options.

Great bento boxes for lunch. Takes a bit of time though to get your food, but it’s always worth the wait. Wait staff is great to be around.

First of all I didn’t know it would take 30 minutes for food for takeout on a friday night., i was salty i was soo hungry. The sushi was delicious after all the wait. I had california and shrimp tempura roll. I interior was soo nice, the stairs are high but its pretty upstairs. The servers seem lovable. I would love to go on a date here! The outside looks like a old house. Would recommend it 5 stars

Let me start by saying — this is the best sushi in Montgomery County. Better than Ooka. I’ve driven by this place hundreds of times, but finally decided to take the plunge. Impeccably clean. Friendly staff. And the sushi is absolutely beautifully prepared and delicious. Try the Tour of Japan, the Rainbow Roll, and the sampler. Outstanding.

Nice décor and comfortable booths. Friendly staff– served us even though we walked in the door after 9:30pm. This place is a Japanese and Chinese place. The steamed dumplings were excellent. I would recommend the tiger roll which had a lot of fish and tasty roe. The Mizo soup and Ginger salad were pretty good. The food came out quickly. I had the spicy roll combo, which was solid. We were served tea right as we sat down. Then came fried won tons and at the end of the meal was traditional fortune cookie and fresh orange slices which were a nice touch.

This is my wife’s and mine favorite sushi place. Love the food, waiters are great(Eric is the best) and its a nice quite little place. We moved in the are 1year ago and now are regular customers at umami .my favorite is the Ninja(bit spicy), wife loves the Hawain. If you dig sushi have to try umami and hope Eric is your waiter. :)

Had lunch here with a group of four. Everyone enjoyed it, the food was fresh and very tasty. Great for those who love sushi. I don’t eat raw seafood, but they had plenty of other selections. Food was excellent but service was very slow and we had to keep flagging down wait staff. It took 20 minutes for a waiter to give us menus and then take our order. Then we waited over 35 minutes more for some fairly simple lunch dishes. All had versions of bento box lunches which from all reports were good, everyone was happy with the food. If I hadn’t been with other, more patient people, I would have left. The service should have been better. It was like we were forgotten. I would consider trying again but if service is this bad again, I will never go back or recommend it.

First and foremost, the host/waitress was amazing and so hospitable to us. Wish I had gotten her name, but thank you so much! I enjoyed my meal at Umami Umami, despite the seemingly out of place outside décor and generic insides. There is certainly ample parking here, and when you approach the outside of the building it looks a bit like a plantation style old stone building. Inside is split into 2 levels, the bottom being just the sushi bar and the upstairs a main dining area. Maybe it was because we ate at an off time, but the upstairs just seemed a little isolated and there wasn’t much to see or look at. The food was excellent, and really was tastefully done both artistically and for the palette. Everything we got was prepared fresh and looked amazing on the plate. I do think for my taste it was a bit salty(overload of sauces), but overall really enjoyable. For 5 people and 5 rolls/dishes our total was $ 95. I would definitely come back.
