Average place, convenient location, and Kelly at the front desk was very helpful, giving us a third-floor room so we could see the lake. The housekeeping service, though, was about as bad as I’ve seen. Our bed was just smoothed over, not made(we didn’t need fresh sheets, but they could tighten and tuck). We hung most towels to reuse, but the two we left on the floor to be replaced were still there when we returned. The dregs of coffee in the in-room coffeemaker weren’t emptied, and the ashtray attached to the trash can at the base of the stairs wasn’t cleaned during our three-day stay. We passed a tray full of soggy cigarette butts every morning on our way to breakfast. I think the manager needs to walk around more. Also, the free«breakfast» turned out to be a few bread items and some tepid, congealed oatmeal. I didn’t plan to eat it anyway(I just went down for coffee), but if you advertise it, it should be there…

We stayed early February 2015 during the week. We visit Duluth every few years and picked this hotel due to other reviews, and cost value of our budget. There are a few convenient stores/gas stations with a few blocks which is handy for a last minute snack run. There is a pop machine($ 2) at the hotel(and ice and laundry machines). We had a refridgerator in our room but no microwave(there is one in the breakfast room). One nice touch was the lamp on the nightstand between the beds… it had 2 built-in front panel AC power outlets which my wife used for her fan. Staff was very pleasant and we had a nice clean room. Breakfast was comparable to most hotels… cereal, fruits, toast, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, microwavable egg-cheese omeletes, and a waffle maker along with a USA Today at each table. LEDTV in the room had a clean remote. I didn’t notice a TV guide in room so I had to flip around a lot. I was too lazy to ask for a channel guide, or I just didn’t see it. Traffic(noise) on London Rd was not a problem. Parking is OK but understand the building is essentially built in front of a hill, I just wasn’t happy with another guest who decided to park sideways one night across 2 parking stalls near a main guest interest. I used the north entrance to the front parking since our car front-end bottoms out a bit on the south entrance. We will certainly stay here again on future visits to Duluth. It’s a great hotel and, oh, the WIFI worked great(our room was nearer to the front of hotel area if it matters). Oh, I also clicked«moderate» for price but it doesn’t imply it’s expensive. It’s actually a great price and a fair value. I just didn’t want to click«inexpensive» and imply it’s a «cheap» hotel. I’ve stayed at cheap hotels… and needing the staff bring a space heater to provide heat… THAT’s a cheap hotel.(yes…been there). Days Inn Lakefront is a great motel… great price, great staff, great rooms, simple and easy for me. I look forward to the next visit! —– May I suggest something to fellow hotel guests everywhere? I’m just an average Joe,(I’m actually a pleasant person) but could you pleeeease NOT let your room door SLAM shut behind you at 6am when you leave your room? Some of us are on vacation and like to sleep in until 7am. And, could you STOP using your car remote to lock your car and HONK right in the room windows? Your mommy thanks you.

Pros: 1. Extremely clean room, linens, and bathroom. 2. Free breakfast. 3. Kind and welcoming staff. 4. Within ~1.5 miles of historic and iconic places to eat such as Fitgers(Fitgers is on Unilocal also, 4.5 stars/245 reviews) 5. Great view of Lake Superior if your room is on the correct side of the building. 6. Very short driving distance to canal park(maybe 5 minutes driving). 7. Free wifi that doesn’t stink. 8. Cold and quiet A/C. Neutral: Breakfast tasted kind of bad. Don’t get me wrong, everything was well stocked, what was suppose to be cold was cold, what was warm was suppose to be warm. Days inn has your standard waffle maker, pour the batter in, close it and flip it, wait for it to finish. It just didn’t taste right though. Maybe it’s just me, though I’ve never had that problem at a hotel before. Cons: The parking is horrible, there is not enough space in the parking LOT. Notice I said parking LOT. If you don’t mind, there is parking available on the road that is easily accessible. If you drive a truck or a larger car I highly recommend parking on the street. I almost gave days inn 4⁄5 stars but I figured it’s not entirely their fault that the parking lot sucks. After all, space is limited.

I really appreciated that Ellen read my review and responded in such a positive way — another plus for this hotel. And I feel compelled to mention that this hotel room was WAY nicer and way more comfortable than the room we rented the following night for a price that was 50 percent higher.

The overall experience at this hotel was very poor. Initially, when we called we asked if there was a pool and were told that there was. No one bothered to tell us it was«under construction» until we got there. Staff was unprofessional. Parking was absolutely horrible. They direct everyone to the back of the hotel which is on a hill and barely wide enough for a car to fit through. A sign clearly states they aren’t responsible for damage to vehicles and I can see why, because its almost unavoidable. Really just a poor hotel in every aspect.
