Best pizza I have ever had. Prices are good and owners are friendly. They give you a lot of toppings and each topping is only $.30 each unless other places where they can charge you up to $ 1.00 for one additional topping. Their garlic knots are pretty good too but are not available everyday.

Really great pizza run by great people. I’m pretty sure it’s a guy and his mom. I know different people like different types of pizza. If you like Domino’s or Papa John, this isn’t your place. Its traditional NY thin crust. Very awesome.

This is my favorite pizza in the area. Mr. Assante’s is good too, but Rome has them beat in the pizza department. This is usually one of my must stops when I am in the area, since I live over an hour away now. it’s either Mr. Assante, Rome, or J&G Texas Weiner.

Honestly, this place is over-hyped. I went with the Rome Special, sausage, pepper and onion. The slices were floppy in the middle and all the cheese and topping slid off. The distribution of the sausage was bad, mostly in the middle where the topping were falling off. That said, the actual taste was pretty good. A shame they can’t figure out how to make the crust hold up to the toppings. For everyone touting this as the«best pizza in central NJ»… There is better 15 minutes away, closer to my house. No reason to drive all the way over here for this.

Best brooklyn style thin crust pizza in the area and I’m real picky about pizza. Everything including dough made fresh daily. The only place that is comparable to Rome is Lubrano’s in Somerset. Their focus is pizza, no subs and parm sanwiches so what they do they do well. Cash only so you clowns that carry no cash and charge small items like a cup of coffee are SOL — go to Papa John’s where they’ll accommodate your silly purchasing habits and serve you crappy pizza(«better ingredients»…lol). Rome is the real deal. I’m amazed when I travel to the south what the hicks down there think is good pizza. Rome would blow their doors off or who knows… they’ve been eating crappy pizza for so long down there they might not like it… lol.

Rome Pizza in Dunellen is my favorite pizza ever. They’ve been doing it right for over 40 years and the taste has always been consistent. Highly recommend.

As in most parts of NJ, there are a ton of nearby pizzerias to choose from. I found Romes by chance a few years ago and can honestly say they are the best pizza in the area if not the state. Everyone has different pizza preferences(bar pie, thick crust, lots of sauce, etc) but if you like the standard type pie that most pizzerias make, you should definitely give it a try.

Bought 2 of the extra large plain pies and ate them at home. This is some seriously good pizza, people. I like their dough which made for a great thin crust pie. There was a generous amount of cheese, topped off by a tasty sauce. The overall taste was very good. The owners take great pride in their fresh ingredients and really care about their craft. The place has that old school charm going for it. An extra large pie is only $ 12.95!(cash only) I cannot give it 5 stars, because I only reserve that for the top 3 or 4 pizza places .This place is in my top 10 for sure.

Yes — finally found great pizza. Moved to the area a few months ago and have been on a quest for a good pizza. Rome’s pizza is the best we’ve had by far. Keep in mind it’s cash only(we don’t carry too much cash anymore these days). Also they only serve pizza and calzones — no sandwiches or antipasto. Give it a try you will not a disappointed.

I walked by this place one afternoon and saw a sign«Best Pizza in Central NJ» I was intrigued so I went in and tried it out. The place is dimly lit, but has a homelike feel to it. I asked the lady behind the counter how the pizza tastes, she said they’ve been there for 40 years, so that must say something. The pizza was really good. I loved the crust. I would go back again when I’m in the area.

We recently discovered what is probably the best pizza in the area. We usually get the large pie with bacon on one half. Bacon!!! The garlic sticks are delicious and the pizza is really amazing. The dough is not too flimsy nor too thick and every slice a good balance of cheese and sauce.

Looking for that place in the neighborhood, that has the Jersey Neighborhood feel? Then check out Rome Pizza in Dunellen, NJ. Its located on 334 north ave. While walking on this street, I noticed a sign that said voted be «slice of heaven» champion by the home news. . You go inside and you definitely get that neighborhood feel, its a mother and son operation and you got locals watching the news on tv as some wait for their takeout order. I can vouch for the«localness» when another patron comes in and chats with one who was sitting by the counter. The atmosphere is pleasant and so is the pizza. Pizza is not on my list of quests, though I have tried brooklyn pizza, which as a reputation all its own. The pizza is thin slice, the flavor with some variance, I did notice some herbs on it maybe oregano? But it did have a character and I would be more than willing to stop by again or order a whole pie for takeout. This write up made me think of this question? How would you describe your ideal slice of pizza? In my experience, they have been slightly salty, sour, and somewhere in the middle when it comes to taste and Im a fan of texture, when the pizza is thin slice(New York style?) not salty or sour and the dough layer has a slight crisp to it when you fold it NOT thin crust mind you. Let me know what you think in your comments? As for my best or memorable experience of pizza? I would have to say it stated in New York City, Manhattan 14th street, close to P. S.19. I think the place was called«Alto’s». I will always have fond memories of that place since My grandfather and I would go there to get a slice during lunchtime. Feel free to share your pizza slice experience as well… hehe

I just moved to the area a few months ago — and with two little kids it was important to find a good pizza place! After trying a few places in the area, this is by far the best. The staff of the nice older lady who owns the place and her sons(I think) who work with her are always friendly and helpful. They have even stopped what they were doing to help bring my pizza to the car while I was carrying my 18 month daughter on a freezing winter’s day. The crust is perfect, the sauce delicious, and just the right amount of cheese. No wonder this place has won best pizza in Central New Jersey.

I can’t believe this place doesn’t have more reviews. C’mon people! We arrived at the town of Dunellen, NJ, exhausted from a 3-hour journey from New York City and hungry for some good food. Rome Pizza was one of the only options as far as we could see on the street we were on so we went in and decided to give it a try. What we got was pure amazement. We each ordered two pizzas, topped with pepperoni, sausage, onions and garlic. The garlic and onions were fresh and nearly raw on the pizza, so at first I was worried it would taste bad. However, the nearly raw ingredients were what made the pizza truly great — every bite was a bite of freshness and chewiness. It was unlike any other pizza I’ve ever had before. This place has a very homey, mom and pop type feel, which I truly appreciate. It seems like the owners know a lot of the customers who come in. It’s great to witness a small town feel, especially when you’re coming from somewhere as busy as New York City. I truly loved Rome Pizza and I will definitely visit again should I ever find myself in Dunellen, NJ again in the future.

Even though they half-missed my order, this was excellent pizza. Floppy crust, fresh dough, great mix of cheese and just the right amount of sauce. Nice to know this place is nearby.
