Two of our party had the pulled pork sandwiches and the were delicious. Moist and flavorful. The person who had the fried flounder also was very impressed with how tasty it was. This is a little gem of a restaurant tucked away in a little strip. If you are up for local cooking this is worth a visit

Food was great. I miss BBQ like that since I’m from the north, we don’t have good BBQ. Not even close to this place. We have poor to decent BBQ up where I am but we are known for seafood. Prices were very good and food was delicious. Service was very friendly. Not much more to say except if you are in the area, you have to stop by this place. The area is a bit sketchy but that’s the only downside I see.

A pretty good barbecue restaurant. I ordered the chicken and pulled pork combo with Cole slaw, Mac and Cheese. I was surprised it came with a few hush puppies. The overall service was excellent. The prices were very reasonable. I recommend this barbecue restaurant. Enjoy! #SeñorFood

If you like basic southern comfort barbecue at a cheap price, this place is for you. We ordered the large pork barbecue plate with 2 veggies and a drink and the total was less than $ 10. The waitress provided phenomenal service including recommending some desserts that we tried as well.

Good food but they didn’t give a cup for water and they didn’t let me refill a shared drink – give me a break!

Best fried chicken. Ever. If I had to choose a last meal, this would be on the menu.

This place used to have some of the best bbq in Durham. Today, service and food were sub par. The quantity alone was not worth the $ 9.93 I paid. The bbq was cool, dry, and pressed into the bottom of the tray to prevent from exposing the Styrofoam. Quite a disappointment.

My best friend and I were looking for a good spot to eat in Durham and came across Hog Heaven. So we went to Hog Heaven. When we got there we noticed the restaurant was very clean and the people there were very friendly and courteous, especially the waitress Jordan. Also the prices were very reasonable. I ordered the fried catfish while my best best ordered the fried pork chop. The food came out and the portions were HUGE. I honestly didn’t think I could finish the whole meal but the food was so good I couldn’t stop eating. Lol. This place is a hidden gem. 10⁄10

USED to enjoy take out meals from Hog Heaven. But today they have lost a customer. We ordered a Family Meal Number 2 with an extra order of green beans. — The meal was $ 2 more than the price listed on THEIR website — Received only 6 pieces of chicken instead of 8 pieces — The one dozen hushpuppies that go with our order, were not included Since we did not notice any of these problems until we returned home, I called to ask what happened. Talked to two employees, then put on hold. Then someone took my name and number so the owner(busy taking a catering order) could return my call. 30 minutes later, no one has called and there is no answer when I call the restaurant. I guess I will have to find somewhere else to get fried chicken.

Well here’s hoping that this evenings food is good bc the customer service and the wait times have been poor! My observation is that the staff here this evening appear to be young and inefficient. Lack of training and communication is also evident.

I’m picky about barbeque joints, but Hog Heaven is pretty good. The barbeque has a good flavor, though subtle, and it’s quality pork. However, I didn’t really like the vinegar based sauce on the tables; it’s more sweet than vinegar. The tomato based sauce wasn’t bad, but I’m looking for more Eastern NC sauce. The barbecue and hush puppies are better at Backyard BBQ Pit, but this restaurant has a nicer feel and they actually provide butter for the hush puppies(I still do not understand why Backyard doesn’t provide butter). There was Texas Pete pepper sauce for the turnip greens, which was a nice touch. They also give you real lemons with your tea. Tip: It looks like you go through the line to pickup your food at the window, but the waitress brings it out to you. Also there is a drive thru, which is neat. And finally… do NOT get the banana pudding. Wow. There were lots of bananas and crispy vanilla wafers. You would think that was great, but the pudding is so runny I couldn’t finish it, which is highly unusual. All in all, it’s still a great barbecue joint and better than visiting a chain restaurant for lunch.

I just experienced the worst customer service I have seen and quite some time. Me and my wife are new to the area and wanted to try out the food. We hopped online and ordered to go and went pick up are food. When given the total I noticed it was a bit higher then what I had seen online. I mentioned this and they said we just changed it. I said well I can show you where online and pulled up the site for them. After doing all that they said the total the same. It was a two dollar difference mind you. I politely said I will pass and she said you do want it?!! Slammed the screen door on like I did something wrong. I didn’t know that false advertisement was the customers problem but hog heaven was quick to make me fully aware. I hope $ 2 was worth losing a new customer.

Had a big family gathering and the bbq, chicken, green beans, banana pudding, and hush puppies were fantastic. They were able to deliver for a small fee and they were right on time, extremely friendly, and efficient. Great job as always!

Between here, Allen and Son, and Bullocks, I like the bbq pork here the best. The meat is juicy, porky, and filled with great vinegary flavor, while the tangy sauce adds a nice kick. The hush puppies are also fantastic. Not as impressed with the other stuff on their menu, but the pork is a must-try.

First time ever here! I love good BBQ, but then again who doesn’t? This spot offers dine in or take out. You turn off the road and it’s in a small shopping center. The outside look is deceiving. Don’t let that fool you. You walk in and order at the window. Pulled pork, chicken, stew and seafood options. I had the BBQ and chicken combo! Got 2 sides. Everything was great and fresh. They also have two different sauces on the tables, one is a sweeter sauce the other is a vinegar based! Both are delicious! If your in the area and want really good BBQ for a decent price and quick this is your spot. BBQ and chicken combo, 2 sides and drink cost me $ 10.

Excellent, eastern-style, BBQ joint. Has the feel of a good BBQ joint — no frills, friendly staff, locals abound, nothing fancy. I got a pork plate with cabbage and slaw. Pork was a little dry and just had plain vinegar on the table. Also had a westerny style super sweet sauce(maybe molasses-based?). I don’t eat that. You might. Pork was chopped, not pulled. No cartilage in it. Generally was very good, but was a little dry and the saucing wasn’t there. I used Texas Pete and plain vinegar on mine. The cabbage was fine, but nothing special. My co-eater had mustard greens and said they were good. No collards(my standard order at a BBQ joint is pork, collards, and slaw). The slaw was not very good. It was almost watery. Also, didn’t love that the sides came in little styrofoam dishes. I would eat here again. My current order ranking of Durham BBQ is: Backyard BBQ(although the sides aren’t the best); Q Shack(the pork is western and not the best, but the sides are outstanding), Hog Heaven. Que has excellent pork, but the sides are really not very good. Planning to try Johnsons Family and Byrds soon.

Pretty good, standard NC barbecue. First time there and just stopped in just to grab a pulled pork sandwich. It was only $ 4 and came with slaw and three hush puppies, which were pretty dank. Both eastern and western NC-style sauces were good. I will be back to try more of the menu.

Stopped here on a road trip, guided by the great reviews and easy on/off from the highway. It’s just what you expect — nothing fancy, just good food. Sauce was awesome, only gave it three stars instead of four because the pork was a little wetter than I usually like. If that’s your thing, you’ll love it. Great, friendly service, and you could tell the place has a lot of regulars.

This exactly what I think of when I think about Carolina BBQ. It’s a no frills restaurant that’s. All about the food and the service. I got the small pork BBQ plate with Green Beans and Mac & Cheese. Green Beans and Macaroni was standard fare. Nothing special, but went well with the meal. The BBQ was great! True Eastern Carolina style. I hit half of it with the house vinegar sauce and the other half left plain. I think I actually may have like it better plain, as the meat stood alone with great flavor. I’ll definitely stop back in again when I’m in the area. If you are driving through on I-85 it’s a GREAT quick stop off the interstate to experience Carolina BBQ.

Very good North Carolina pork BBQ. Personally, not my favorite style of BBQ, but good service, a variety of sides and tasty pork. The hush puppies were excellent!

Customer Service is top notch, which is the major impression I get from this place. I ha the Pork and Brunswick stew. The pork is chopped not pulled; don’t be misled by other reviews. What you will find is that it is extreme chopped, far more than normal Eastern NC style. And there is some Eastern sauce on the meat. It’s hard to tell if the meat is actually moist or just sauced a little extra. So the style here is Eastern, meaning you have a good vinegar sauce sitting on the table. The meat had a slightly sweet taster which was rather pleasant. But you could not taste any smoke; at least I didn’t. Overall the meat was good. Not outstanding but good. The Brunswick stew was also a bit different had that same sweet taste in it. It was not loaded with vegetables, which I found disappointing The potato salad, wasn’t horrible but the taste just wasn’t my thing for potato salad. The White slaw was very creamy, and after adding some of the Vinegar sauce to it I have to admit I enjoyed, maybe more than the meat. Hush puppies were also a little sweet, not bad at all.

I had the fried chicken, mac n cheese and hush puppies. One of the staff came out and asked us if we wanted more hush puppies ’cause she needed an excuse to exercise, which was awesome, and they were pretty delicious — only a hint of onion, which is as I prefer it. The fried chicken was super greasy — I’m guessing they don’t cook it in the hottest oil. I can’t say it was my favorite. Mac n cheese was classic style, good but not something to write home about. The pork, which my companions had, seemed much better, and after tasting some, I was envious of their meal. Style is no-frills, order up front. I’ll definitely give it another shot the next time I’m in town — this time, the Pork and the banana bread pudding, for sure.
