Kim did such a wonderful job with the wedding cake. From the first time we met her, she was extremely helpful, and wonderful to us during our tasting. She made us feel really special by having us sit in this luxurious room and brought out a platter of samples. I loved it! She helped us design the cake and pick out flavors that complemented each other really well. We highly recommended Kim’s Cottage Confections in Durham.

This is the worst experience I have ever had. I have worked in retail for a very long time, and if I ever spoke to a customer the way the owner spoke to me I would be fired indefinitely. I received cookies for my baby shower and noticed that the cookies were not cookies, but thin wafer crisps. There were 6 cookies in total that were the appropriate thickness, but that was all, out of 24 total cookies! I wrote to the owner Kim, explaining the situation and I guess her form of customer service is no customer service because she not only insulted my intelligence by saying that she’s never had a customer who was SO upset about the thickness of the ICING used on each cookie, but what she did not understand or chose not to listen to was that it was the ACTUAL thickness of the COOKIE itself. She responded by saying(knowing the shower was the next day) ” …They are delicious light cookies with just the right amount of icing. If you are this upset, feel free to return the cookies to me tomorrow(the day of my shower) between 9 and 12 for a refund. I would never want a client so upset over the amount of icing on a cookie. Enjoy a beautiful shower” Now if that wasn’t just a big«screw off» I don’t know what is. Not only did she not LISTEN to what was wrong OR apologize, but she was rude and condescending. I cannot believe she is running her business by speaking to customers this way. I would expect this from a disgruntled employee but I was speaking with the OWNER Kim, and not to mention I sent her a PICTURE in the e-mail of the difference in THICKNESS of the cookies, and she didn’t even have the decency to respond! What a nasty way to run a business. Here’s a word of advice to anyone looking for cookie favors you are completely better off buying cookies from NYC, considering the prices are equivalent(which is OUTRAGEOUS) and the quality is 100000 times better. I wish I had taken my own advice and gone with one of 15000 etsy bakers, but instead I wanted to support a small business in the town my family grew up in. Good deeds do go unnoticed at Kim’s Confections, that’s for sure. Don’t even bothering checking out the website it’s not even worth it.

Don’t know much about the cakes but I love coming here for the chocolates and chocolate covered treats. The raspberry jellies and the chocolate covered Oreos are to die for. Although the chocolate/caramel pretzel sticks are my favorite. Every time I go in the owner and any employees there are very friendly and seem to be always bustling away preparing something delicious.

Every year my young son designs a birthday cake(despite the fact that I can make a decent cake) and Kim is able to deliver exactly what he designs. She creates ice skating rinks, multi-tiered stacks of cake ‘presents’, and whatever else he dreams up. She listens carefully to his choices of flavors and frostings. Her cakes are light and moist, and beautiful to look at. Even when I order at the last minute, she is able to deliver something delicious. She has an excellent range of cake flavors and fillings, and her buttercream is creamy. Overall I would recommend her cakes.

I was referred to Kim’s from CT Wedding Group and I am so glad Kim’s did our wedding cake. Meeting for my tasting was great. I was able to pick two great flavors, chocolate espresso and red velvet with white chocolate mousse. The buttercream outside was tasty, and smooth. My anchor cake that she crafted up was exactly what we pictured and tasted great. The cake was light and super moist, fresh, fresh, fresh. Kim’s also did a special groom cake which tasted great and was very artist. This bakery has great skill, so if you are looking for a great tasting cake that is beautiful go to Kim’s.

I wouldn’t recommend Kim’s Cottage Confections to my worst enemy. The cake itself was okay, but the service was mind blowingly horrible and her unapologetic attitude about it was what was even worse. Here’s the breakdown: The consultation went smoothly and she seemed nice enough. The price was totally reasonable. That’s where the good news ends. SHE recommended since we were getting such a small cake that she should also make a anniversary cake for us, instead of keeping the top tier. I though, «What a cute idea!» and gave her the go-ahead for that. When she delivered the cake there was no mini-anniversary cake, but I was getting married and didn’t really have any time to fight that fight, so when I realized the next day, I called her and she denied that it was part of our contract. It is, and I still have a copy to prove it. She told me I was confused. Which seems pretty impossible since SHE wrote up the contract, and SHE wrote that an anniversary cake would be included and it was HER idea and we paid for it. It seemed to me SHE was confused, and blatantly unapologetic for the mess up. Also, she was late delivering the cake, so my wedding planner had to stay at the reception site to wait and make sure the delivery actually happened, and missed out on taking care of a few key things at the ceremony site because of her tardiness. And finally, I distinctly asked that it not be on a cardboard base wrapped in foil — which is also noted on the contract — and lo and behold! it was on a nasty cardboard round covered in wrinkly foil. It was a nightmare, she was unprofessional, and still, two years later it makes me cringe a little to think that I paid this woman to ruin a sort of pivotal part of the wedding reception experience.
