Don’t get me wrong, this place is not bad. But at the same time, it’s plain. Your average steak house with options of the same old stuff, salad, steak, seafood and chocolate lave cake. None of which is great, but at the same time everything is decent and filling. Leaving me with no desire to come back again, but not regretting eating there. So this is an average three stars place.

Metro 8 is a great spot. We just finished our first visit and were so pleased with both our experience and our cuisine. Jenna was our server and she did a great job, attending to us as necessary without constantly interrupting. The food was great; we particularly enjoyed the cilantro jalapeño cream cheese spread and our filet was cooked to our specifications and was quite tasty. We will be back!

Absolutely amazing! We decided to give this place a try after reading all the reviews. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and they made it very intimate and special for us. We sat right by the fireplace where they lit a bunch of candles for us. Very romantic and classy. First off, we both had Mojitos — which were made perfectly. I had the churrasco with the broccolini. I initially wanted my churrasco to be well(just not a fan of the«pink») but our waitress told me that it would be better if I tried it medium well. Im glad she did. It was cooked perfectly! Im not sure that I’d have it that way anywhere else but here it was great. My husband decided he wanted to have the Cowboy steak and sweet potato fries — delicious! For dessert we the Tiramusu, you can definitely tell that it was made in house and not a mass produced item so tasty! Everything was fresh and delicious! Don’t forget to indulge in the rolls that come out before your meal — the cilantro jalapeño cream cheese spread is addictive!!!

Classic steak house with an Argentina twist. Best Manhattans in the triangle and the steak churrasco is next-level good. Great spot. The service is good, the drinks are good, the ambiance is spot. I stop in 3 – 4 times/week, because I love it.

Food has always been top notch. Great steak and cooked perfectly, meaning if you ask for medium rare you get it medium rare and not medium well. Ambience is fantastic too for a nice date or intimate dinner.

Great place for steaks, and their appetizers are all great. The place is very nice inside, small but cozy. Had the chimichuri steak and it was very tender and juicy.

Came here for a birthday dinner at this Argentine steakhouse, and was extremely happy with the experience. Got the chorizo for an app and the churrasco for an entrée on recommendation, and both were fantastic. The dipping sauce might have been a bit high in the garlic, though I love garlic. Steak was flavorful, cooked to order, and included more of the delightful garlic dipping sauce. We ended the night by sharing an order of the Dulce de Leche Crêpes, which were simply fantastic. Stop by on a Wednesday night for ½ priced bottles of wine — a win all around! Will definitely be back to try this one again.

Checked out Metro 8 during TRW this year. Let me tell you, it was worth the trek to Durham. This Argentine Steakhouse has some of the best churrasco I’ve had. Their chimichurri sauce is just the kick to separate the flavor from what you find at the other places in town. I also had the spinach alfredo, which was essentially creamed spinach. The dulce de leche crepes were melt in your mouth good. This is the type of dessert you drive across town for. Don’t forget to try the jalapeño cream cheese spread with the homemade rolls. Interesting concept, but was really delicious. Overall a great dining experience in a cozy joint in Durham. Highly recommend!

My new favorite restaurant. Thank you Kathy for being able to fit me and my party in Last minute on New Years Eve. Cute cozy neighborhood restaurant on Ninth St. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The Filets were cooks to perfection were they melted in your mouth. Already looking forward to my next adventure to this new little Ninth St Joint. One thing that would really top it off, live jazz playing in the corner. Just saying.

I’m a huge fan of this restaurant and have tried at least 60% of their menu because I go there so many times. For starters, I usually get the chorizo and the provoleta(they go very well together), it’s like a umami explosion. Their soup is also very good, it’s usually something simple like butternut squash or mushroom but it always tastes very pure. Their churrasco is the best piece of steak you can get in Durham, and I love the chimichurri sauce. I’ve also tried their ravioli, but seriously why would you get anything else when you can get the churrasco? I sometimes request for them to truffle the fries which come as a side, it’s not on the menu but they’re so awesome they always accommodate the request. Their service is always so wonderful, I love the people there. I also love the mojito, which comes in very generous portions and are equally generously flavored with mint and lime. Delicious during summer. Their desserts are generally very very sweet, especially the dulce de leche crêpe and molten chocolate cake. They’re delicious but I would share it with someone or I’ll get a sugar overload. I miss this place already!

Well… we were looking for a good food around 10pm and this place just happened to be opened. Not really, but since we came, they offered us to stay as much as we wanted. We ordered a steak and caprese appetizer. The prices are pretty high and the steak was not really matching it. My appetizer was great though. This place is great for a date night! It’s so unique and private. You feel like in Old town, very secluded and exposed to ancient centuries. The service was excellent and the place is really up-scale. If we ever go back we will celebrate a special event there.

Went for restaurant week last week and it was totally worth it! The steak was HUGE and literally I had ate it for breakfast the next two days(steak and eggs) and for lunch(steak salad) The rest of the meal such as the appetizers and desserts were alright nothing too amazing but the steak was definitely good and huge.

Absolutely fabulous. Came here for a celebratory dinner on a Tuesday evening and everything was spot on from the second we were seated to the very last bite of incredible, home made, warm and gooey from the oven, chocolate soufflé. Perfect for a special occasion or date night. The food was prepared and cooked perfectly. The service was wonderful. I hope to be back soon!

Came here one night right before Thanksgiving break a while back, so it was relatively empty. Nice, quiet, formal ambience. The food was pretty excellent, from what I remember. I had the steak, which was prepared very nicely. I also recall having a positive dessert experience. Holding out on 5 stars for now — I’ll have to return to give an updated review.

I went here for Restaurant Week and was very pleased with all the food, service, and selection. The menu was robust given the prefixe cost. Our group of three tried all the entrees(Strip Steak, Skirt, Tuna) which each had their own special element. The Tuna in particular was incredible, with a fantastic sesame crust and perfect sear. The Steaks had great sauces and were cooked to perfection with a nice smoky flavor. The Argentinian culture comes out strongly in the food, which is a nice change from standard steakhouses. Appetizers were nice, we had salads and chorizo. Nice portions and balanced flavor. Accompaniments to the entrees were also executed well, with plenty of options to choose from. Dessert was equally delicious. I would strongly recommend the chocolate ganache cake, but I’m a chocolate person myself. All in all it was very much worth the trip. The cost for Restaurant Week was very reasonable and a great value. I could see coming back for a special occasion. The cocktails left a lot to the imagination and could have been executed better, that’s probably the only reason I don’t see this as a 5-star restaurant. Clean that portion up and you have a great higher end option for dining on 9th Street.

Went here tonight for a friend’s birthday dinner just to see what it was. Stepping inside, it’s a totally different vibe from everywhere else on Ninth St. Very dark, closed blinds, kind of a struggling hotel restaurant type feel. Attentive wait staff — they immediately brought us three rolls(pretty dry). I ordered the chicken breast with broccolini, and my friend got the porcini fettucini. The chicken was incredibly juicy but had almost no seasoning. The broccolini was cold. The fettucini was really good; a huge portion of pasta with thick mushroomy sauce and a generous number of mushrooms. When I took a bite of her dish, I got a little scrap of something in my mouth — plastic? Onion peel? Not very appetizing. Won’t be returning, but glad to finally know what’s behind the mysterious white wooden door!

I don’t often give five stars but I cant name anything about Metro 8 that I didn’t absolutely love. To be fair, I’m Originally from Argentina, which makes me love the food style but I also know if it tastes like«home» or not. It’s always hard to get chorizo exactly right, Metro 8 makes their own and it’s absolutely perfect. Was thrilled to have both chorizo and Provoletta as on the appetizer menu! The Provoletta was also very good — it’s a traditional cheese grilled and seasoned — highly recommend trying this. The bread was baked fresh so it took a little while to come out but it was excellent, and worth the wait. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and didn’t rush our special occasion meal in any way… As a matter of fact we were the last people to leave! We ordered the larger portion of churrasco, a marinated skirt steak, it was tender and juicy and cooked«al punto» which means just right — you want it a little pink on the middle. This is another traditional part of argentine cuisine - I haven’t has great churrasco outside of Argentina. We selected the Brocolinni as our side vegetable mentioned in other reviews… Great choice too! If you haven’t tried Malbec wine from Argentina I highly suggest a bottle to compliment this tasty combination of traditional regional flavors. I’ve lived in NY, Dallas and Florida and Metro 8 is by far the best Argentine restaurant I have tried in the past 25 years. Dessert is worth keeping room for — don’t leave without trying the panceques de dulce de leche(just look at the picture I posted!). I forgot to mention the warm inviting décor of the restaurant — I really loved everything about it and will definitely go back on my next trip to Durham!

After living in Miami for 8 years, my husband and I both constantly crave Argentinean food, so we decided to check out Metro 8 and we both loved it! The service was outstanding and we were seated at a table right by the window, which I felt made for a more private and romantic experience. For my meaI, I had the provoleta, churrasco with chimichurri, spinach alfredo, and chocolate soufflé. Everything was excellent. Even the complementary bread they brought us was delicious – it came with a jalepeno cream cheese that I could have eaten with a spoon all by itself. The only reason I can’t give Metro 8 the full 5 stars is that I’ve been to better Argentinean steakhouses in Miami, but for Durham this place is as good as it gets!

The last time I was here was in 2008 and I came away full and happy. This week was the same case when I brought my in-laws here for a nice dinner. There was only one other group eating at the restaurant when we arrived Tuesday night at 8pm for dinner, so our waitress was super attentive. The bread came out with jalapeño cream cheese dip that was flavorful and not too spicy, and we devoured it. Among the 4 of us, we ordered the following: Churrasco 16 oz skirt steak($ 25). This was my favorite beef entrée of the night. The meat was very flavorful and lean. Cowboy Rib-Eye 32 oz($ 39). This piece of meat was as big as my face… we had a lot of this leftover because the serving was so big! It was thick and also not too fatty – not as flavorful as the Churrasco, but comes with a side dipping sauce. My father-in-law was very happy with this dish. Pork chop with apple sauce($ 22). I was very impressed by the pork chop, which wasn’t tough/chewy/dry like other pork chops I’ve tried elsewhere. It was very tender and paired well with the apple sauce. Lobster ravioli with pink sauce($ 19). This entrée comes with about 8 – 10 large ravioli stuffed with fresh shredded lobster. I dipped all my bread in the creamy pink sauce. For sides, we ordered sweet potato fries, baked potato, and broccolini. I had ordered the broccolini side in 2008 and remembered how much I liked it. Broccolini is a hybrid of broccoli and Chinese chard and it has hints of broccoli and asparagus flavor. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside, and the baked potato was loaded with cheese, sour cream, and bacon. The menu is pricey so I only come for special occasions, but their food quality and portions makes it well worth the splurge!
